Adam Perry @ OpenAI 17a9df60e4 Add an experimental flag for bundled tools in login shells (#49403)
## What changed

Register `login_shell_package_path` as a disabled-by-default experimental feature and add it to the configuration schema. Expose it in `/experimental` as “Bundled tools in login shells,” with a description explaining its intended use when login shell startup resets `PATH`.

## Testing

Extend the experimental feature metadata snapshot test to cover the new feature's label, description, and unchecked default state.

Eric Traut ceea67163f Remove randomized greetings from TUI session headers (#49395)
## What changed

Remove startup greeting phrases and the shared greeting state from startup drafts, session headers, and the empty-state animation. Raw session headers now consistently include `model:` and `directory:` fields.

## Testing

Update startup and fresh-thread snapshots to omit greetings, and adjust raw-header assertions to check model and directory fields.

Celia Chen 94d642d8b4 Clarify credential storage wording across authentication UI and docs (#49361)
## Why

Credentials can use a keyring backend, so describing all login and logout operations as reads or writes to `auth.json` is misleading.

## What changed

- Remove the API-key onboarding claim that keys are stored in `auth.json`.
- Describe authentication storage and credential-removal errors in terms of stored credentials and the selected backend.
- Label the doctor output's auth-file path as the file backend or fallback, and document why startup checks also consider `config.toml` when credentials may be in a keyring.

## Testing

Add API-key entry snapshots for terminal widths of 80 and 40 columns.

Benjamin Carlsson 1983c48fd1 Continue Markdown blockquotes when pasting multiline text (#49357)
## Why

Pasting multiple lines into a blockquote previously left subsequent lines unquoted.

## What changed

- Continue the current line's `> ` prefix across pasted lines, including blank and trailing lines, in the TUI composer and embedded answer fields.
- Append two unquoted newlines so typing resumes in the next Markdown block. Preserve quoting when large paste placeholders expand on submission.
- Use a shared edit target for paste context and insertion so selection replacement uses the prefix at the replacement start.
- Keep shell input and provisional startup pastes literal.

## Testing

Add unit tests and rendering snapshots for blockquote pastes, embedded answers, cursor placement, selection replacement, and large-paste expansion. Add textarea tests for forward and backward selections, adjacent elements, and Vim Replace backspace recovery.

Celia Chen 8ffd91e42a Enable multi-agent V2 and Ultra reasoning on Amazon Bedrock (#49345)
## What changed

Preserve catalog `multi_agent_version` values instead of forcing V1, allowing models that declare V2 to use it by default. Retain Ultra in supported reasoning levels so it appears in the Astra advanced reasoning picker for Bedrock Mantle and Runtime.

## Testing

Add coverage for preserving configured multi-agent versions, selecting V2 and exposing `collaboration.spawn_agent` and `collaboration.followup_task` without the V2 feature flag, and displaying and selecting Ultra in both Bedrock reasoning pickers.

Celia Chen a6e9eaa9bd Add GPT-6.1 Sol to Bedrock catalogs and make it the default (#49339)
## What changed

Add `openai.gpt-6.1-sol` to the Bedrock Mantle catalog and its `global.` and `us.` variants to the Bedrock Runtime catalog. Make GPT-6.1 Sol the default and provider fallback model, preferring the global variant for Runtime. Keep existing models available.

## Testing

Update catalog and provider assertions, thread-start fallback tests, and TUI model-picker snapshots to cover GPT-6.1 Sol and the new defaults.

Nick Steele 4773a132c3 Add /mcp login <name> to the TUI (#49290)
## What changed

Allow users with an active session to start MCP OAuth sign-in through `/mcp login <name>`. Request login through the app server, open the authorization URL in the browser, and display success or failure in the originating thread.

Guard overlapping start requests and track login attempts per server so stale retry completions do not overwrite current results. Skip opening the browser when the attempt has already completed, and retain results across thread switches and session refreshes.

## Testing

Add command dispatch coverage and regression tests for overlapping starts, stale retry completions, rejected starts, independent server logins, and result retention across thread switches and session refreshes.

Nick Steele af0d68a236 Restrict enterprise MCP auth and fail closed on config refresh (#49260)
## Why

Configuration reloads must honor current managed restrictions without granting new enterprise MCP authority to existing sessions or overwriting newer configuration with stale snapshots.

## What changed

- Allow enterprise managed authentication only for configured MCP servers. Remove plugin `ema_auth` overlays from the schema and disable servers that still use them.
- Refresh ordinary MCP settings while preserving session settings and initially admitted enterprise registrations. Disable enterprise MCP when its registration changes, policy revokes access, or configuration loading or resolution fails; require a new session to restore enterprise authority.
- Publish refreshes only when their captured configuration is still current, with bounded retries in app-server reloads. Preserve updated managed restrictions even when a refresh is rejected.
- Finish processing other thread refreshes before `config/mcpServer/reload` reports a rejection, and document that an error can accompany partially applied changes.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for stale refreshes, bounded retries, managed-policy revocation, persistent enterprise disablement, ordinary MCP transport changes, and rejection of plugin enterprise authentication. Verify that denied enterprise servers receive no requests.

Eric Traut 3226512d47 Honor app-server provider defaults in the TUI (#49161)
## Why

Client provider defaults can override the app server's configured provider and hide its sessions from resume and fork history.

## What changed

- Omit implicit provider overrides from thread start, resume, and fork requests so the server can resolve its defaults.
- Use the server's effective provider for named history lookup, `--last`, and resume and fork pickers, while honoring explicit CLI and selected-profile choices.
- Respect managed provider requirements when resolving history filters and preserve the active session's provider when forking it.

## Testing

Add app-server regression tests for provider defaults, explicit choices, configuration changes, selected profiles, and managed requirements. Add CLI coverage for resume and fork pickers and `--last` with local daemon and embedded servers, plus a picker rendering snapshot.

Eric Traut 0d7b8117d3 Support projectless TUI sessions with workspace defaults (#49160)
## What changed

- Skip folder trust prompts for locally discovered projectless directories without a saved trust decision. Apply workspace-write permissions and granular approval defaults only when local execution, configuration, and managed policy allow them.
- Prompt for Windows sandbox setup when needed before enabling implicit workspace-write permissions.
- Restore saved task permissions on resume unless explicitly overridden, and keep ordinary turns from overwriting the server's saved permission profile. Track explicit approval reviewer choices separately from restored permissions.
- Let `/cd` request folder trust with a “Keep current directory” option. Recheck task activity and background terminals before switching, and enforce destination permission requirements.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for projectless defaults and session transitions, explicit permission overrides, saved profile preservation, trust discovery, destination policy conflicts, and the directory consent and Windows sandbox prompts.

Benjamin Carlsson c6c7c8d270 Omit blockquote markers when copying quoted selections in the TUI (#49153)
## Why

Copying text selected within a blockquote adds Markdown quote markers that are not part of the selected content.

## What changed

Return plain text for selections containing only quoted content, preserving literal `>` characters and selected whitespace. For quoted tables and task lists, remove quote prefixes while retaining table reconstruction and checkbox states. Selections spanning quoted and unquoted content continue to preserve Markdown structure.

Preserve the existing logical source when marking list separator lines as omitted from Markdown copying.

## Testing

Add coverage for partial and nested blockquote selections, quoted tables and task lists at narrow and wide widths and after rewrapping, and copying a mouse-selected blockquote.

Eric Traut ff3c82c8a9 Preserve server reasoning summary and verbosity settings in the TUI (#49144)
## Why

Forwarding local defaults as request overrides can replace server defaults or saved thread settings for reasoning summaries and verbosity.

## What changed

Only forward `model_reasoning_summary` and `model_verbosity` as shared thread request overrides when their winning configuration layer is a session flag or an explicitly selected user profile. Use the effective values from that layer, and omit values whose winning source is ordinary user or project configuration. Preserve the existing reasoning-summary defaults for new embedded threads.

## Testing

Add coverage for profile, project, and CLI precedence. Extend outbound model request tests to verify that remote-mode thread start and resume preserve server reasoning summary and verbosity settings despite conflicting local values.

andrewgu-oai 458f7046a5 Treat explicit provider model catalogs as authoritative (#49135)
## Why

Providers with `model_catalog_url` could advertise bundled models absent from their catalog or reuse stale models after a failed refresh. Model metadata could also match by prefix or namespaced suffix instead of the provider's exact model ID.

## What changed

- Suppress bundled model fallback and merging for explicit provider catalogs, including when discovery is disabled.
- Require unique, non-empty catalog slugs and match metadata by exact model ID.
- Serialize explicit catalog refreshes and invalidate in-memory and persisted catalog entries after fetch failures, preventing stale cache reuse.
- Report a clear configuration error when startup has no available model, while allowing an explicitly configured `model`.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for exact model matching, hidden catalog entries, cache invalidation across restart and recovery, invalid slugs, and empty-catalog startup with and without an explicit model. Update app-server model-list expectations and verify the TUI configuration error.

Felipe Coury 0196495288 Add X11 primary selection and middle-click paste support (#49112)
## What changed

- Publish released mouse selections from both transcript views to X11 `PRIMARY` as plain text, even when copy-on-select is disabled. Preserve configured `CLIPBOARD` copying when it is enabled.
- Paste `PRIMARY` into the editable fullscreen composer on middle-click, including while a transcript selection remains active.
- Limit support to local Linux X11 sessions, excluding Wayland, SSH, tmux, WSL, and VS Code terminals.
- Retain the latest deferred selection publication and order it before a pending `PRIMARY` read, while giving explicit copies priority. Cancel stale deferred work when its selection or paste target is invalidated.
- Clarify that scrollback mode uses native terminal copy, paste, and scrollback.

## Testing

Add regression tests for selection publication with copy-on-select enabled and disabled, publication-before-read ordering, explicit-copy priority, cancellation of deferred work, and middle-click paste invalidation.

Benjamin Carlsson 8f6517772b Add history pagination to the agent command center (#49106)
## Why

The command center seeded only ten recent sessions, with no way to browse older history from the task list.

## What changed

- Add a keyboard-selectable “Show more” row that discovers up to ten more tasks, with loading and retry states that remain accessible during search.
- Retain per-source cursors and buffered rows across requests, merging interactive and non-interactive history by recency without discarding existing tasks on failure.
- Refill vacancies after tasks are archived or deleted, and prevent stale refreshes from restoring removed tasks.
- Limit routine detail refreshes to recent and loaded tasks, plus explicitly targeted threads, as retained history grows.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for pagination across mixed sources, cursor retries without row loss, automatic refill, queued pagination, and “Show more” navigation, loading, search, and retry rendering.

Eric Traut 136391a23e Resume unsent TUI input after reconnecting (#49105)
## Why

Reconnecting paused all recovered input, including queued messages that had never been sent. Those messages can resume automatically once any uncertain submissions are resolved.

## What changed

- Track unsent and unconfirmed messages separately. Reconcile submitted prompts and steers using exact client message IDs from restored history, buffered events, and later receipts.
- Remove confirmed submissions from the recovered queue and resume unsent input after replay. Keep uncertain submissions paused without resending them, and show a notice identifying the message whose delivery could not be confirmed.
- Preserve pauses for unavailable conversations, pending compact/review requests, and existing input recovery failures.
- Simplify reconnect status text and remove blanket disconnect/reconnect transcript notices.

## Testing

Update reconnect integration tests and snapshots for automatic queue resumption. Add coverage for matching and unrelated receipts, missing history, late confirmations across navigation, pending compaction, and preservation of image-failure recovery pauses.

- Share desktop app tips between the preferred slot and random tip pool, including Windows. Keep Linux app tips limited to graphical sessions outside WSL.
- Clarify installation and launch instructions for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and format launcher commands as code.
- Remove the Fast-mode status plumbing used by tooltip selection.

## Testing

Eric Traut 222e24b737 Render follow-up directive labels in the TUI and copied responses (#49089)
## Why

Follow-up directives contain display labels and prompt attributes. Show the labels without exposing directive syntax or prompt text in rendered responses and streaming previews.

## What changed

- Render `:codex-followup[label]{prompt="..."}` as its label, preserving inline Markdown styling and source offsets.
- Replace recognized follow-up directives with their labels when copying whole responses, while retaining the original source.
- Withhold unfinished directives in rich streaming previews and avoid cropping into prompt attributes when the preview window advances.
- Preserve literal code, escaped directives, and malformed source when rendering completed messages or copying responses.

## Testing

Eric Traut 15c08beee2 Surface realtime voice catalog failures in the TUI (#49073)
## Why

Failed `thread/realtime/listVoices` requests silently fell back to the built-in catalog, allowing voice selection and conversation startup to proceed without the server's voice catalog.

## What changed

- Propagate catalog errors and show an error instead of opening the voice picker or starting a realtime conversation.
- If the catalog lookup fails after saving a preference, report that the preference was saved but the effective voice could not be confirmed. Leave the in-memory voice settings unchanged.

## Testing

Extend remote voice tests and snapshots to cover catalog failures when opening the picker, saving a preference, and starting a conversation. Verify that the preference is persisted, in-memory settings stay unchanged, and failed startup clears realtime state without sending `thread/realtime/start`.

Eric Traut 44fe510ce3 Expand native Mermaid flowchart syntax support (#48895)
## What changed

- Default `flowchart` and `graph` to top-down layout when no direction is specified.
- Support solid and dashed edges with directed, undirected, or bidirectional endpoints: `-->`, `---`, `<-->`, `-.->`, `-.-`, and `<-.->`.
- Accept pipe labels on these edges and spaced directed infix labels such as `A -- send --> B` and `A -. retry .-> B`.
- Expand `&` groups into all source-to-target edges, including in chains. For example, `A & B --> C & D` creates four edges. Enforce the 24-edge limit after expansion and cap each group at 24 node references.

Add regression tests for cleanup after SGR setup fails and an isolated Windows console test that checks mouse input activation, SGR encoding, and restoration of the original console mode and default encoding.

victor-openai ea64727556 Add single-server MCP status discovery with thread connection reuse (#48783)
## Why

Inspecting one MCP server should not require full-inventory discovery or a separate connection when a thread already has one.

## What changed

- Add optional `serverName` to `mcpServerStatus/list` and update generated schemas and bindings.
- With `threadId`, apply any pending runtime refresh and reuse the thread's current connection and tool catalog, waiting only for the selected server during discovery.
- Without `threadId`, create a discovery connection for only the selected server. Unknown names return an empty page; omitting `serverName` preserves full-inventory discovery.

## Testing

Add a regression test covering both status detail modes, checking that tool metadata is preserved and that status reads do not repeat `initialize` or `tools/list` requests.

Eric Traut 596f8c5c3c Match pinned transcript headers to the original prompt style (#48775)
## What changed

Add the `› ` prefix to pinned prompt headers, using bold red for spoken prompts and bold dim styling for other prompts. Reserve one column when truncating the header.

## Testing

Add a rendering test comparing pinned headers with the original prompt rows for both regular and spoken prompts. Update snapshots for the prefix and display-width truncation.

Felipe Coury e75b6b1e0c Show hidden output line counts in compact terminal activity (#48761)
## What changed

Replace generic output disclosure labels with counts such as `+ 5 lines (ctrl+t to expand)` for compact command activity, both live and in history. Count retained output lines hidden or clipped by the preview, excluding output discarded by storage limits.

Use the configured `open_transcript` shortcut and omit the hint when it does not fit or the action is unbound. Invalidate cached layouts when keybindings change. Keep generic `Show details` labels for other hidden details and keep disclosure controls outside copyable and searchable text.

## Testing

Add regression tests for live/history consistency, remapped and disabled shortcuts, and exclusion of hints from source text. Add snapshot coverage for fully visible output, hidden and clipped lines, command-only details, and storage-truncated output.

Felipe Coury 71b38795d8 Match TUI status shimmer timing to desktop headers (#48757)
## What changed

Replace the continuous two-second shimmer with a 600 ms initial delay and a one-second sweep every four seconds, matching the desktop app's thinking and reasoning header timings.

## Testing

Update snapshots for short, long, and Unicode labels in both themes to cover the initial delay, sweep, gap, and next sweep. Sample smoothness across two sweeps at 32 ms intervals and adjust the brightness-change bound for the faster sweep.

Felipe Coury 819cdb726d Render /status without borders and wrap long values (#48754)
## Why

The status card truncates values in narrow terminals, hiding parts of paths, session IDs, and other details.

## What changed

- Remove the status border and wrap values with continuation lines aligned beneath the value column, falling back to less indentation at very narrow widths.
- Preserve full directory paths and session IDs in displayed and copied status output.
- Allow history updates with no previous rows to append new details while preserving existing history rows.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for long Unicode paths and session IDs across terminal widths, copied text, usage links, and appending late thread-usage details. Update status snapshots for the borderless layout and wrapped values.

Eric Traut 8f195c93d7 Preserve blank TUI sessions when switching tasks (#48628)
## Why

Untouched threads have no rollout for `thread/resume` yet. Switching away from a blank startup or fresh session needs to preserve its live subscription, draft, and settings so it can be reopened.

## What changed

- Retain blank startup and fresh sessions for non-ephemeral connections to an external app server, and save their input state before navigating away.
- Restore the current thread name and apply background settings updates after restoring drafts, so saved model choices do not overwrite newer server settings.

## Testing

Extend the task-switching regression test to cover blank startup and fresh sessions, preserved drafts and model choices, updated thread names, and restoration without `thread/resume` or `thread/unsubscribe`. Verify that background model, permission, and approval-policy updates are used for the first submitted turn.

Eric Traut 98072cf5f6 Preserve empty Markdown list markers in the TUI (#48623)
## Why

Empty list items can lose their markers, and a bare marker received during streaming can still acquire content in a later chunk.

## What changed

- Render pending markers when an empty item ends or a nested list starts on a new line, including inside blockquotes.
- Keep trailing bare list markers mutable during streaming so later content and terminal resizing preserve the item correctly.

## Testing

Add snapshot coverage for empty ordered, nested, and blockquoted list items, plus regression tests for streamed continuations, finalization, and resizing with a held marker.

open-matt b8d5e3f12e Allow exec-server to proxy permitted private IPs upstream (#48568)
## Why

Private IP destinations always bypassed inherited upstream proxies, preventing their use for private networks reachable through an upstream VPN proxy.

## What changed

- Add `codex exec-server --proxy-private-ips-via-upstream`, also configurable with `CODEX_EXEC_SERVER_PROXY_PRIVATE_IPS_VIA_UPSTREAM=true`. The setting defaults to disabled.
- Allow permitted RFC 1918, carrier-grade NAT, and IPv6 unique-local destinations to use an applicable upstream proxy. Loopback and link-local destinations retain direct routing, and destination access policy still applies.
- Keep connections direct when no valid upstream proxy applies or `allow_upstream_proxy=false`. Errors after selecting an upstream proxy do not trigger a direct retry.
- Rename `ExecServerRuntimePaths` to `ExecServerRuntimeOptions` and carry the routing setting from executor startup into the managed network proxy.

## Testing

Add routing coverage for private address ranges, special-use addresses, and public targets with the option enabled and disabled. Verify that HTTP and CONNECT requests still enforce destination allowlists and denylists, and update the CLI help snapshot.

Felipe Coury e8fdbf1f7c Use a consistent borderless session header in the TUI (#48562)
## What changed

- Use the compact title, version, and directory layout for all session headers, including resume, fork, and clear-screen flows. Remove the boxed model row and retain the optional greeting and YOLO permissions indicator.
- Share title styling with the status card and honor the active render mode and wrapping policy when inserting a fresh header after clearing the screen.

## Testing

Update header and startup snapshots for the borderless layout, narrow widths, and halfwidth directory characters. Add assertions that clearing history preserves the raw header in raw output mode.

Felipe Coury 6a39914e37 Keep working tips stable during transcript interaction (#48560)
## Why

Hiding an already-visible working tip during mouse selection shifts the transcript layout and disrupts selection.

## What changed

Keep displayed working tips visible while interacting with the transcript or scrolling away from the latest output. Initial tip display and completion tips still require an idle viewport following the latest output.

Check usage notices directly when suppressing tips so a tip cannot appear merely because interaction temporarily hides the composer warning.

## Testing

Add a mouse-selection regression test and snapshot covering deferred initial display, stable transcript rows through mouse down, drag, and release, correct selected text, and continued tip suppression when a usage warning is hidden during interaction.

Eric Traut 7b7d934408 Fix TUI math rendering for zero and big wedge expressions (#48551)
## Why

Inline `$0$` was left unrendered, and expressions containing `\bigwedge`, `\bigl`, or `\bigr` fell back to raw LaTeX.

## What changed

- Allow `$0$` through the inline math detection heuristic.
- Render `\bigwedge` as `⋀`, with limits stacked above and below in display math.
- Handle `\bigl` and `\bigr` like `\left` and `\right`.

## Testing

Add a regression snapshot covering inline zero, inline big wedge, and a multiline display expression with stacked limits and delimiters.
