## Why
Assistant answer text may be followed by more output or tools. A distinct `partial_answer` phase lets callers represent this separately from commentary and a terminal `final_answer`.
## What changed
- Add `MessagePhase::PartialAnswer` and expose `partial_answer` in the app-server schemas and generated TypeScript and Python types.
- Keep the TUI working indicator visible after partial answers and exclude them from the thread history's final-answer summary field.
- Route partial answers to the speakable channel in realtime V3 BEM-tag mode.
## Testing
Add coverage for phase preservation through serialization, input-message conversion, and SSE item start/completion events. Extend TUI snapshot coverage to verify that partial answers keep the working indicator visible while final answers hide it.

## What changed
- Remove `instructions_variables`, its protocol type, and unused personality templates. Continue accepting older catalogs by ignoring their legacy variables.
- Report `supports_personality` as `false` in app-server model listings and TUI model presets.
- Preserve pinned model metadata and base instructions when only personality settings change. Reuse Guardian review sessions across friendly and pragmatic settings, while keeping the `none` opt-out distinct.
## Testing
Update coverage for legacy catalog deserialization, personality override notifications, opt-out behavior during model switches, and preservation of instructions and history on resume.
GitOrigin-RevId: bee8a263ef84046301888d02347f43929ececce9
## What changed
Introduce `TurnEnvironmentRequest` for caller-supplied environment input and construct `TurnEnvironmentSelection` at session startup and app-server settings boundaries. Update thread startup, default environments, and inherited environment handoffs to use requests, with explicit conversions when reusing runtime selections.
Move the environment types into `protocol::environment` while retaining their `protocol` re-exports. Update test fixtures and existing tests to build request inputs separately from runtime selections.
GitOrigin-RevId: 12e7daaece95aae136afae8b055b4dbaebdffc75
## What changed
- Carry opaque `review_target` values through misalignment errors and expose optional `reviewTarget` in the app-server protocol and generated clients. Preserve the value verbatim and redact it from debug output.
- Keep target-based `misalignment_override` metadata on turn requests, preserve it across steering updates, and exclude it from compaction and external MCP metadata. Reject overrides from global Responses metadata while retaining legacy timestamp behavior for per-turn overrides.
## Testing
Extend coverage for error propagation, debug and rollout redaction, steering preservation, and metadata filtering. Verify that automatic compaction omits the review target while turn requests before and after compaction retain it.
GitOrigin-RevId: 8c1abb076a206ff5927a4acc31bd25e3efc2bff9
## Why
`additional_tools` response items were excluded from rollout persistence, dropping their tool definitions from saved history.
## What changed
- Persist `additional_tools` items in both legacy and paginated history modes.
- Expose the variant in generated JSON schemas, TypeScript types, and Python models, with an optional `id`, a `role`, and arbitrary JSON tool definitions.
## Testing
Add a recorder round-trip test that verifies tool definitions survive recording and loading in both history modes without parse errors.
GitOrigin-RevId: 0e7c7b1c10401ec6513fb744de642a1cf9e461d7
## What changed
- Remove `stdout`, `stderr`, and `formatted_output` from `CommandExecutionItem` and `ExecCommandEndEvent`, retaining `aggregated_output` as the output field.
- Update command event producers, legacy conversion, rollout traces, and the precomputed schema. Use aggregated output for terminal trace results.
- Clear `interaction_input` in emitted and migrated command completion items.
## Testing
Update command execution and trace tests to use aggregated output, and assert that legacy rollout migration preserves `aggregatedOutput`.
GitOrigin-RevId: ed59827d4a5ec9a767084ee4feac72c2042440f2
## What changed
Remove `initial_messages` from `SessionConfiguredEvent` and the corresponding schema. Stop attaching replay history to startup events for resumed or rejoined threads, and remove `InitialHistory::get_event_msgs`.
## Testing
Update the MCP resume test to verify persisted tool events through `load_history`, and retain coverage that resumed requests include prior conversation items.
GitOrigin-RevId: 54b72bc44423c9b1ef2051891ef392c0ede32fe5
## What changed
Add `CODEX_GUARDIAN_DECISIONS_API_KEY` to the non-inheritable environment variables and the HTTP header environment denylist. Case-insensitive filtering removes it from child process environments, including explicit shell policy and command overrides, and rejects its use through `http/request` header `value_env_var`.
## Testing
Extend regression coverage for inherited and overridden variables, mixed-case names, and HTTP header rejection before any network request is sent.
GitOrigin-RevId: 1adeef814fdccb2d6c77dd68f7a5dfcec0b41cc6
## What changed
Replace `https://chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage` with
`https://chatgpt.com/settings/usage` in usage-limit errors, the `/status`
card, and backend banner actions. Credit purchase actions retain
`?credits_modal=true`.
## Testing
Update error-message assertions, banner action tests, status hyperlink
assertions, and TUI snapshots to expect the new URL.
GitOrigin-RevId: 1e1db971284a25a781120da30a6dea5ff9c3d957
## What changed
- Add the `daybreak` configuration key, defaulting to `false`, with per-invocation overrides such as `-c daybreak=true`.
- Resolve access programs from the model catalog, preferring `daybreak_blue` over `daybreak_red` when enabled and selecting advertised `standard` access when disabled for signed-in ChatGPT accounts. Require the OpenAI provider, a signed-in ChatGPT account, and a compatible model to enable Daybreak.
- Save the choice for new persistent threads and inherit it on resume and fork, including ephemeral forks. Explicit CLI overrides apply only to the current invocation.
## Testing
Add protocol tests for advertised-program selection and exec integration tests for account and provider restrictions, saved choices, ephemeral forks, and invocation-only overrides.
GitOrigin-RevId: ac955f08b5a891e720cfc5f67fabb7b0f6d32bb8
## What changed
- Add `features.guardianv2.async_classifier_mode` with `snapshot` and `conversation` modes. Local configuration overrides model defaults; snapshots remain the fallback.
- Retain completed classifier requests and responses in conversation mode, appending transcript deltas without repeating previously delivered user instructions.
- Rebuild retained history when authorization, classifier instructions, or parent compaction changes, after an incomplete response, or when the next request exceeds the configured token limit. Add `async_classifier_conversation_token_limit`, defaulting to 100,000 tokens, while preserving the model's input limit for fresh requests.
- Serialize conversation requests in observation order, bound outstanding work, and reject stale work after authorization changes or thread shutdown. Record retained and new input token costs.
## Testing
Add tests for configuration precedence, history reuse and resets, ordered admission, queue overflow, and stale or stopped requests. Exercise the approval matrix in both modes, including resume, fork, mandatory review, authorization changes, and stream failure after an early score.
GitOrigin-RevId: 35b9800104648cde4f467086e678dee12458c3e5
## What changed
Add `exchange_ema_auth_token` to discover and validate the MCP resource's authorization server before resolving enterprise identity credentials and performing the ID-JAG token exchange. Keep the lower-level exchange primitive private.
- Probe `server/discover` with the enterprise-managed authorization extension, support recognized legacy discovery rejections, and follow protected-resource metadata challenges or well-known fallbacks.
- Match configured resource and issuer constraints, require advertised public-client JWT bearer support, and validate token endpoint metadata without requiring an authorization endpoint.
- Bound discovery with a shared timeout, redirect and authorization-server limits, reject cross-origin metadata redirects, and restrict private authorization-server destinations while allowing local loopback discovery.
## Testing
Add tests covering resource and issuer mismatches before identity access, metadata capability validation, query preservation, modern challenges, JSON and SSE legacy fallback behavior, cross-origin redirect rejection, and private or malformed issuer destinations.
GitOrigin-RevId: 9a55233a20ff42c293f9bd8175e01141ac2d8576
## Why
Responses overload and exhausted-request errors could terminate despite server retry advice, and WebSocket-to-HTTP fallback could issue a request before the advised deadline.
## What changed
- Allow `ServerOverloaded` and `RetryLimit` errors to retry when server advice is present, within the configured retry budgets.
- Preserve `Retry-After` headers from rejected WebSocket upgrades and wait for the server deadline before falling back to HTTP.
- Keep quota, usage-limit, and policy failures terminal even when they include retry advice.
## Testing
Add coverage for HTTP overload and rate-limit recovery, WebSocket upgrade rejection and fallback timing, retry deadline preservation through error mapping, and retry limits for sampling and manual and automatic compaction.
GitOrigin-RevId: 72d30a9f078652664754dfa971fd7dc7a78f20e8
## What changed
Use `derive_more::Debug` for `ContentItem` and `UserInput` to limit debug formatting of `ContentItem::InputText` and `UserInput::Text` to a prefix of at most 512 bytes, ending at a UTF-8 character boundary. Append the full text length in bytes to each preview.
GitOrigin-RevId: ca711dde8f0e3ba7047103415dbc1836f6401e61
## What changed
Forward explicit `cyberAccessProgram` selections for the built-in OpenAI provider when both `api_key_cyber_access_programs` and `api_key_model_discovery` are enabled. The new feature defaults to disabled and can be toggled through the app server's experimental feature enablement API.
Reject explicit selections in OpenAI API-key sessions when either feature is disabled, instead of silently omitting the program. Leave entitlement and model restrictions to the server, and preserve the requested program when a server rejection triggers transport retries.
## Testing
Add app-server coverage for both feature gates, forwarding all three program values, and server rejection without fallback. Update core coverage for API-key resumes with disabled features and custom-provider omission.
GitOrigin-RevId: aa639afb841aa651b28f6f3f61198299372baa2d
## Why
Persistence and aggregate metadata budgets can omit tool-call observations that are still relevant to the current request, including tool result metadata needed during compaction.
## What changed
- Retain live direct-call observations separately from bounded persisted outputs, keyed by response item ID so reused call IDs cannot mix results.
- Restore those observations for sampling and compaction, pruning them only when sampling confirms they have left the history window. Preserve observations across shortened compaction retries.
- Remove aggregate prompt metadata caps while retaining per-call argument limits and the outgoing message size limit. Invalidate cell completeness when argument normalization truncates a recorded call.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for exhausted persistence budgets, reused call IDs and reversed completion order, shortened compaction retries, and completeness after argument truncation. Extend integration coverage for large Code Mode metadata, provider metadata support, and fork/resume behavior.
GitOrigin-RevId: 004082b69bff9cc8b05f36d1052057f163c67f07
## Why
Responses stopped by `content_filter` previously followed generic stream-error retry handling without guidance about the block. Retried requests need instructions to explain the limitation and offer a permitted alternative.
## What changed
- Recognize content-filter failures as a distinct error while preserving retryability and the existing public error representation.
- Append developer guidance to the conversation after each sampling block, retaining delivered output and using the existing retry handling.
- Support a model catalog override through `model_messages.content_filter_guidance`. Missing, null, blank, or values exceeding 512 UTF-8 bytes fall back to bundled guidance.
- The bundled guidance tells the model to avoid reproducing or working around blocked content, briefly explain the limitation, offer a permitted alternative, and continue unrelated authorized work.
## Testing
Add a scenario and request-history snapshot covering repeated blocks, catalog guidance on each retry, retained partial output, and eventual completion. Add error-mapping assertions for retryability, public error classification, and error text.
GitOrigin-RevId: ba0c201b3a5a3acf5cfa971332027240e0690225
## Why
Guardian denial-limit interruptions lack a structured error identifying the cause. Make this opt-in because older clients may not recognize the new error in shared history.
## What changed
- Add `auto_review.circuit_break_action = "strict"` to attach `TooManyDenials` to the interrupted turn. The default leaves the error unset.
- Expose `turn.error.codexErrorInfo = "tooManyDenials"` in app-server notifications and saved history, and update protocol schemas and generated types.
- Preserve the warning, denial limit, and interrupted status without emitting a separate error notification.
## Testing
Add an integration test covering omitted, `default`, and `strict` settings, checking warnings, live turn errors, the absence of separate error notifications, and persisted turn errors after restart.
GitOrigin-RevId: cb5d379e64728d4d7b9daf834c13756e4a70db31
## Why
When a nested code-mode call's recorded arguments were truncated and attached to an output before its result arrived, the recorder could no longer attach the result metadata to that call.
## What changed
Retain validated call bindings so late result metadata updates the original output across retries and subsequent waits. Keep truncated arguments and incomplete call inventories intact, and apply existing metadata budgets.
Invalidate late metadata bindings when duplicate IDs, reused cells, conflicting outputs, or changed call inventories make attribution ambiguous. Clear stale pending calls when a cell ID is reused, and avoid counting duplicate pending IDs against capacity more than once.
## Testing
Add recorder regression tests for late metadata across retries, compaction, waits, and cell closure, plus ambiguous bindings and budget limits. Add a code-mode integration test that delays a tool result until its truncated call has been recorded and verifies metadata remains attached to the original output across later waits.
GitOrigin-RevId: 7398beaaa1a513147deebdea7aa841513a79d06b
## Why
AWS profiles can select credential helpers that the application executes. Granting write access to a containing directory should therefore keep `.aws` protected by default.
## What changed
Add `.aws` to the protected metadata paths alongside `.git`, `.agents`, and `.codex`, including workspace roots and additional writable roots. Preserve explicit user rules that override the default protection.
## Testing
Extend policy and sandbox tests to cover `.aws` protection. Add macOS coverage for existing and absent `.aws` directories, deletion and replacement attempts, and symlink targets. Verify that Linux sandbox writes to protected configuration files fail while sibling files remain writable.
GitOrigin-RevId: 31ea287bd0dd9b13aff893783fba9ca3aed0c89d
## Why
Usage limit errors discarded the server-selected window responsible for the limit, leaving turn and compaction analytics unable to distinguish five-hour limits from weekly limits.
## What changed
Preserve optional `limit_window_minutes` from usage limit error responses in `UsageLimitReachedError` and report it as `usage_limit_window_minutes` in turn and compaction events. Accept unsigned integers that fit in `u16`; treat missing, null, malformed, or out-of-range values as unknown. Events for other error kinds report `null`.
## Testing
Add coverage for HTTP and wrapped WebSocket error mapping, analytics serialization and reduction, and app-server propagation to turn and local/remote compaction events. Cases include five-hour and weekly windows, missing or invalid values, and unrelated errors.
GitOrigin-RevId: a32066a007559d91a3c868a756bfd0f976777176
## Why
Approved commands need broader write access while retaining explicit read denials. On Linux, binding the filesystem root writable can shadow standard devices, and additional root-metadata mounts can reopen denied symlink targets.
## What changed
- Add `FileSystemSandboxPolicy::for_approved_command` to grant root and root-metadata writes while retaining path and glob denials. Keep the original policy when denials cannot be resolved or deny the root.
- Restore standard devices after Linux writable root binds, then apply explicit deny masks. Avoid redundant root-alias binds and inherit root-metadata writes from the root mount so denied targets stay masked.
- Preserve literal deny paths alongside resolved targets so Linux can reject denials that cross writable symlinks.
- Advertise Linux device and approved-root restriction support through two opt-in exec-server capabilities, omitted from serialization when false.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for approval policy materialization across Unix, Windows drive, and UNC paths; Windows volume expansion; Linux device access and metadata symlink restrictions; and capability serialization compatibility.
GitOrigin-RevId: 40584473da98a15e606bb1a8934308f69528850f
## Why
A `.git` pointer can resolve to a Git directory inside another writable root. Broader Seatbelt grants or later bubblewrap mounts can leave that directory writable despite its metadata protections.
## What changed
Include resolved Git directories in read-only exclusions for broader writable roots on Linux and macOS. Resolve symlink aliases when locating exclusion targets and retain explicit policy overrides.
## Testing
Add regression tests for Git directories reached directly or through symlink aliases in another writable root, and for linked worktree metadata under the macOS temporary directory. Verify that metadata writes are denied while ordinary files in the surrounding writable root remain writable.
GitOrigin-RevId: 6971f1cf35008d23eaeb0d02a9c61bee7cf83b12
## What changed
- Recognize `promax` in authentication, account responses, and backend rate limits; update generated schemas and client types.
- Display `prolite` as “Pro”, `pro` as “Pro (More)”, and `promax` as “Pro (Max)” in account labels, status, and analytics.
- Include Pro Max in experimental context eligibility, paid-plan tooltips, and usage-limit guidance for purchasing credits.
## Testing
Extend coverage for Pro Max plan parsing, account and rate-limit responses, experimental context eligibility, and plan display names. Update the login token test to expect “Pro (More)”.
GitOrigin-RevId: 197e00fa7a99cbce125c8f1d43a451ec1ed5c1fb
## What changed
- Recognize `flex_unavailable` in HTTP 429 responses and streamed `error` and `response.failed` events. End normal turns without retries and report `Flex capacity unavailable.`
- Expose `flexUnavailable` through the core and app-server protocols and generated schemas and SDK types.
- Keep Flex capacity failures eligible for Guardian review and sampler retries, with a distinct telemetry classification.
- Map unexpected HTTP responses to `HttpConnectionFailed`, preserving their status codes.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for terminal Flex failures over HTTP, SSE, and WebSocket, HTTP 504 status preservation after a stream retry, and protocol serialization. Update Guardian retry and sampler recovery tests to cover Flex failures.
GitOrigin-RevId: f2e03a6d2d36a6d9748c35952e40397f8670d121
## Why
Removing tool-result metadata alone can leave requests above the 15 MiB message budget when recorded tool calls and arguments occupy the remaining space. If trimming loses calls or arguments from a Code Mode cell, later waits must not report its call inventory as complete.
## What changed
- Bound all optional tool-call observations against the serialized HTTP or WebSocket message size, preserving ordinary tool outputs and continuation history.
- Shed generic result metadata, sources, and recorded arguments before resource-access evidence, retaining tool names and smaller metadata where possible.
- Invalidate completeness across affected cell outputs and later waits when the outgoing copy loses calls or arguments.
- Preserve size-limit omission markers for direct tool-result metadata when they fit, while continuing to exclude that metadata from custom providers.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for HTTP and WebSocket message budgets, unchanged tool results and history, resource-evidence retention, direct-call omission markers, and Code Mode waits after argument truncation.
GitOrigin-RevId: 538dc9d8c11b0830ec70327422f98a1803122e85
## Why
Callers need to await acceptance or rejection of thread settings without consuming the thread event stream. Acceptance must precede event delivery because the caller may hold a lock needed by the event consumer.
## What changed
- Add `CodexThread::update_thread_settings` and re-export `ThreadSettingsOverrides` from `core-api`.
- Add an optional reply channel to `Op::ThreadSettings`. Return validation failures as `InvalidRequest` through that channel, retaining error events for callers without a reply channel.
- Reply to successful updates before emitting `ThreadSettingsApplied`, while holding the settings persistence lock through notification.
## Testing
Extend settings constraint coverage to direct replies, including rejection without an error event and successful notification. Verify that acceptance and continuation invalidation precede blocked event delivery, while checkpointing waits for notification.
GitOrigin-RevId: e09b0d3cc4b6750709c173371632f19619e5c250
## Why
The `attribution_error` status does not explain why MCP attribution is incomplete. Preserve a diagnostic reason so callers can distinguish history and recorder errors from request serialization failures.
## What changed
- Add optional `error_reason` diagnostics to `McpAttribution`, retaining the first recorder error through checkpoints, compaction, resume, and fork.
- Identify missing or invalid checkpoints, conflicting sources, invalid sources, and poisoned recorder state. Use `restored_error_unknown` for older error checkpoints without a reason.
- Distinguish `payload_too_large` from `serialization_failed` in request metadata fallbacks.
- Tolerate missing, unknown, or malformed diagnostic reasons when reading history, without letting diagnostics determine attribution status.
## Testing
Add coverage for reason preservation, recorder poisoning, backward-compatible checkpoint decoding, resume and cold-fork restoration, and request metadata serialization, including oversized payloads.
GitOrigin-RevId: 389b9446fae119f793978f3e7e4a926677e84d8c
## Why
Local `apply_patch` permission checks can treat a macOS system alias and its canonical spelling as different locations, sending writes covered by temporary-directory grants for unnecessary approval.
## What changed
- Normalize trusted top-level aliases in local policy roots and patch targets, reusing a prepared matcher for permission requests and patch safety checks.
- Share alias normalization with Seatbelt and the macOS executor sandbox while preserving mutable symlinks and missing descendants.
- Preserve read-only and deny precedence, protected metadata restrictions, and remote URI matching. Propagate normalization failures from fallible permission checks.
## Testing
Add macOS regressions for multi-file patches with missing parent directories through both direct `apply_patch` calls and shell interception, asserting automatic approval and file contents. Add unit coverage for alias restriction precedence, mutable symlink preservation, missing descendants, and remote permission isolation.
GitOrigin-RevId: 0822ff951eaab728cb1ad91281745fa1b8809f15
## What changed
- Resolve remote sandbox modes, writable roots, and denied read paths/globs using the executor's filesystem context, displaying paths in its native format. Preserve local filesystem resolution for local environments.
- Resolve remote read denials individually so missing executor facts omit only the unresolved entries.
- Apply a shared 32 KiB budget to displayed permission paths/globs, omitting whole entries and warning that all restrictions still apply, including omitted read denials.
## Testing
Add coverage for remote Windows writable roots and read denials, missing executor path facts, and whole-entry omission with multibyte paths under the shared budget.
GitOrigin-RevId: c61e7ddc8fa569dbc25e9990d90357c42315188f
## Why
Unchanged scheduled heartbeat instructions should not become fresh authorization evidence that supersedes a later human override or floods Guardian review context.
## What changed
- Capture heartbeat provenance per input, including when steering an active turn, and persist it in history and retained context.
- Coalesce unchanged instructions for each automation at their original acceptance order. Preserve changed instruction versions and ordinary human messages.
- Represent repeated heartbeats as references to earlier instructions in Guardian transcripts, while tracking the latest input turn separately for trusted skill selection.
- Limit coalescing to recognized, bounded heartbeat envelopes with host-provided provenance.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for human overrides across repeated and steered heartbeats, instruction changes, checkpoint restoration, transcript references, envelope parsing, and latest-turn trusted skills in delegated reviews.
GitOrigin-RevId: 31e444ddb685a1a618be26d3cc32fb562296946b
## What changed
Use the model catalog's `send_user_message_async.parameters` override for the `request_user_input_async` tool schema. Fall back to the bundled schema when the override is absent or invalid, logging a warning for invalid overrides while preserving the catalog description.
## Testing
Extend integration coverage for catalog schemas, empty and invalid overrides, and schema updates during mid-turn model changes. Update the asynchronous question-and-answer scenario to verify that requests carry the catalog schema while work continues and the user's answer arrives.
GitOrigin-RevId: c51a90d3266daaba1e7001aa4026964f84dfb206
## Why
The 32 KiB per-result cap and 128 KiB aggregate budget discard tool metadata even when the outgoing request has room to retain it.
## What changed
- Remove the per-result capture cap and raise the aggregate executed-tool metadata budget to 2 MiB.
- Apply a 15 MiB soft budget to serialized HTTP requests and WebSocket messages, using the actual WebSocket delta. Trim optional result metadata on the wire copy while preserving ordinary content and logical history.
- Prioritize `openai/resource_access` metadata during trimming, and include `overage_bytes` in omission markers.
- Record bytes removed by metadata budgets in `codex.tool_metadata.shed_bytes`, tagged by stage.
## Testing
Add coverage for HTTP and WebSocket message boundaries, resource preservation, residual marker removal, unchanged history, and shedding metrics. Update direct-tool and code-mode tests to verify metadata survives beyond the previous limits.
GitOrigin-RevId: ed00996b77945300f60db1e52eff22b4de2707c1
## Why
Exceeding the aggregate metadata budget previously replaced all tool result metadata with omission markers, discarding small results unnecessarily. Oversized results also lost resource-access evidence even when that evidence alone would fit.
## What changed
- Raise the executed-tool-call metadata budget per request from 32 KiB to 128 KiB while retaining the 32 KiB per-result limit.
- Reduce the largest result metadata first and stop once the request fits, preserving smaller results.
- Retain `openai/resource_access` when full metadata exceeds capture, request, or direct-call retained-history limits. Keep resource lists intact, and discard optional result metadata before sacrificing call records, source evidence, or completion markers.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for selective reduction, resource-access retention, serialized request size, and direct-call and Code Mode behavior. Update compaction and truncation tests for the larger request budget.
GitOrigin-RevId: 698e47dcbdd3351e9a031e45ea39053608a5a0e4
## Why
MCP resource helpers use fixed descriptions and parameter schemas, preventing the model catalog from supplying model-specific guidance.
## What changed
Add `model_messages.tools.mcp_resources` entries for `list_mcp_resources`, `list_mcp_resource_templates`, and `read_mcp_resource`. Resolve these entries for the current model when constructing tool specs for direct calls and Code Mode.
Descriptions and parameter schemas override independently. Preserve bundled defaults for missing fields and fall back to bundled parameters with a warning when a supplied schema is invalid. MCP resource execution remains unchanged.
## Testing
Add unit coverage for independent overrides, literal descriptions, and invalid-schema fallback. Add integration coverage for resource discovery and reading through direct calls and Code Mode, plus assertions that resource tool specs follow model changes between steps.
GitOrigin-RevId: 40b5beddb38b2b61c19dc9cd6013d6ba5d756dbc
## Why
Channel tools use bundled descriptions even when the model catalog supplies tool messages. Let their descriptions follow the active model, including model changes within a turn.
## What changed
- Add channel tool entries to `MultiAgentToolMessages` and pass them to the message board extension for each step.
- Apply catalog descriptions while retaining bundled text for missing or null values and honoring empty strings. Ignore parameter overrides with a warning and keep bundled schemas.
- Clarify bundled descriptions for channel discovery, thread reading, posting, and subscription notifications.
## Testing
Add coverage for full and partial overrides in namespaced and Code Mode tools, preserving Code Mode declarations and parameter schemas. Extend the mid-turn model-change test to verify that the `post` description follows the active model.
GitOrigin-RevId: fca20bed1203d5214713f82cb16a91eeebb38f56
## Why
The Browser connector on `codex_apps` needs the computer-use policies and review handling already applied to `node_repl` and `cua_repl`.
## What changed
- Classify `connector_openai_browser` using registered tool metadata and preserve its computer-use scope through Guardian review.
- Extend confirmation-policy forwarding, review evidence capture, JavaScript execution tracking, and initial-call approval handling to the Browser connector.
- Correlate Browser elicitations with live invocations so nested actions retain their own review identity while assessments are attributed to the originating call. Require verified Browser identity for strict nested review.
- Include the Browser connector in computer-use policy prompts and bundled model messages.
## Testing
Add integration coverage for ordinary and strict Browser nested reviews, including policy injection and action attribution. Verify strict review declines requests with missing or unknown invocation correlation or a non-Browser registration.
GitOrigin-RevId: b04af6fb9db1bac2203dc4265913d210746df90b
## What changed
Add `model_messages.tools.indirect_description_prefixes` with selectors for exact namespaces and configured MCP server names. Apply the selected model's guidance to namespace documentation embedded in `CodeModeOnly` prompts, `ALL_TOOLS` descriptions, and namespaces returned by tool search.
Trim prefix values, treat empty values as no prefix, and reject conflicting selectors for the same namespace. Apply prefixes during rendering so model changes take effect without altering direct tool specifications, search ranking, or tool dispatch.
## Testing
Add unit tests for prefix normalization, namespace grouping, MCP server mapping, and conflicts. Add scenarios covering both Code Mode variants, clearing prefixes on model changes, unchanged tool dispatch, and conflict rejection before a model request.
GitOrigin-RevId: 0c7ce6d418c775945c2ccfdab3c605fa4d431b55
## Why
HTTP retries used local backoff even when the server supplied `Retry-After`. Relative retry delays also failed to account for time spent propagating errors or reporting retries.
## What changed
- Parse `Retry-After` delay seconds and HTTP dates into a monotonic deadline captured when response headers arrive.
- Honor that deadline for HTTP retries, falling back to local backoff when valid advice is absent.
- Preserve deadlines through API and Bedrock error mapping, stream retries, and exhausted retry state. Expired advice remains a zero delay instead of triggering local backoff.
## Testing
Add coverage for header parsing, deadline countdown and expiry, error mapping after exhausted HTTP retries, and delayed stream retry notifications. Update Responses and remote compaction tests to verify that HTTP retries honor `Retry-After`.
GitOrigin-RevId: a2eff02946e5524f29e06f7ba1431e3d339261a4
## Why
Command execution analytics lack the observed sandbox backend. Older execution servers may omit this information, so an unknown backend must remain distinguishable from an explicitly unsandboxed process.
## What changed
- Carry optional `sandbox_type` metadata through command execution items and emit its metric tag as `sandbox_backend` in analytics.
- Propagate the observed backend through unified execution completion and failure events, including asynchronous exits.
- Preserve missing backend information as `None` and mark executed user shell commands as `Some(SandboxType::None)`.
- Exclude the metadata from serialized command items and generated schemas and TypeScript types.
## Testing
Extend tests for missing and explicit executor backends, backend propagation on failed execution, and analytics payloads, including platform-specific backend tags in app-server integration coverage.

## What changed
- Add `environments` to `TurnSettingsUpdate` to replace the selection for subsequent steps without changing future turns.
- Capture model settings and environments together so combined updates apply or reject atomically, while existing steps retain their captured selection.
- Validate environment IDs, working directories, configuration ownership, and permission requirements against the running turn's selections.
- Preserve executor startup behavior when switching environments and use the step's local working directory for tool hooks.
## Testing
Add coverage for workspace switching and restoration on the next turn, atomic model and environment updates, permission validation, executor connection waits, and replacement of pending environment selections.

## Why
Destination restrictions and policy revocation must remain effective during redirects, response body reads, and established WebSocket traffic. Policy denials must also survive error handling so callers do not retry them or report a revoked operation as successful.
## What changed
- Route managed HTTP clients through a shared `RequestBuilder` and policy-aware execution, checking each redirect destination before route resolution and retaining a network permit while consuming response bodies.
- Guard WebSocket connection setup, reads, and writes with revocable permits, including independent wakeups for split readers and writers.
- Preserve `TransportError::Policy` through HTTP, SSE, and realtime error handling, and treat policy denials as non-retryable.
- Keep the supplied network policy in plugin startup HTTP requests and propagate response body failures from backend and plugin requests.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for rejection before connecting, revocation during redirect routing and streamed body reads, split WebSocket revocation, realtime writer error propagation, and revoked plugin upload responses.

## What changed
Add `backend_reasoning_status`, disabled by default, to relay public reasoning summaries during active, server-managed realtime V3 delegations.
Use the last non-empty summary from each completed reasoning item, truncate it to 256 bytes at a character boundary, and append it as `[STATUS]` context on the `commentary` channel. Discard queued updates if their delegation is no longer active.
## Testing
Add an integration test covering enabled and disabled behavior, selection of the latest non-empty summary, exclusion of raw reasoning and partial summaries, and delivery without triggering `response.create` or changing the model's reasoning-summary setting.

## Why
`invalid_prompt` responses were classified as generic invalid requests, losing the server's specific error classification.
## What changed
Add `InvalidPrompt` variants to the API and core error types and serialize the core protocol classification as `invalid_prompt`. Recognize the code in HTTP 400 responses, wrapped WebSocket errors, and SSE `response.failed` events while preserving server messages and keeping the error non-retryable. Map it to `other` in the app-server v2 protocol.
## Testing
Extend coverage for typed error mapping, missing and blank messages, protocol conversion, and guardian retry handling. Exercise HTTP and SSE failures in core integration tests, asserting the error message, serialized classification, and a single request without retry.

## Why
Callers need to interrupt a specific active turn without discarding queued input. Tool callbacks must be able to await the interruption decision without blocking task cancellation.
## What changed
- Add `CodexThread::interrupt_if_no_pending_input` and `Op::InterruptIfNoPendingInput`.
- Check the turn identity and pending user input or mailbox items before taking the active task. Leave the turn running for stale or abandoned requests.
- Acknowledge the decision before joining cancellation, and unblock pending submissions when the active task is cancelled.
## Testing
Add regression coverage for successful interruption, stale turns, preservation of queued user input and agent mail, abandoned requests, and cancellation while the submission queue is full.

## Why
Compaction companion records do not represent all resume state, including the last started turn and previous turn settings. The selected multi-agent runtime also needs a persisted value when no companion turn context is present.
## What changed
- Add optional `resume_metadata` to `CompactedItem`, recording the multi-agent version, last started turn ID, and previous turn settings. Preserve the distinction between absent metadata and explicitly empty values while retaining compatibility with older records.
- Capture this metadata under the settings persistence lock alongside the compaction checkpoint.
- Rewrite inherited metadata to use the child agent's runtime, and clear previous turn settings when the child must rebuild context.
- Clear pending continuation state before delivering acceptance of standalone settings updates, while holding the persistence lock.
## Testing
Add coverage for metadata round trips with empty values, legacy reader compatibility, checkpoint companion records, inherited fork metadata, and continuation invalidation while settings event delivery is blocked.

## Why
Accepted inter-agent messages can still be waiting in the submission queue when a worker appears idle. Evicting that worker can lose the queued work, while cancelling an eviction caller can leave shutdown unfinished and allow delivery to a closing runtime.
## What changed
- Pin V2 recipients until queued submissions are handled or dropped, and verify that delivery targets the registered runtime.
- Move `Submission` into core so it can carry the residency guard through queue handoffs.
- Give eviction exclusive access to each runtime and keep it counted against capacity until removal. Run teardown in a separate task so it completes even if its caller is cancelled, and remove registry and residency entries together.
## Testing
Add a regression test covering queued follow-up delivery, eviction refusal while mail is pending, cancelled eviction completing teardown, rejection of late delivery, and capacity reuse after removal.

## What changed
- Add `tools.code_mode` catalog messages for `exec`, `wait`, deferred-tool guidance, and shared MCP TypeScript definitions.
- Render `{{ default_exec_yield_time_ms }}` and `{{ image_helper }}` in `exec` descriptions while preserving runtime tool declarations and the freeform grammar.
- Resolve `wait` descriptions and parameter schemas independently, falling back to bundled parameters for invalid or unsupported schemas.
- Use the active model's Code Mode messages, including after mid-turn model changes. Missing overrides retain bundled defaults; empty text overrides suppress the corresponding text.
## Testing
Add coverage for literal template substitution, runtime section preservation, independent `wait` overrides and fallback behavior, mid-turn model changes, and a yielded cell completing through `wait` with catalog messages.

## What changed
- Capture optional `creator_user_id` and `creator_account_id` from authentication when creating a thread, including forks.
- Carry these fields through thread storage, rollout metadata, and a SQLite migration. Leave them absent when unavailable or when reading older threads.
- Preserve recorded creator values across resume and metadata updates. On revert, recover missing rollout values from SQLite before writing replacement metadata.
## Testing
Add coverage for ChatGPT and API-key sessions, resume under another account, forks using current authentication, metadata extraction and upserts, and repeated reverts after creator fields are removed from a rollout.

## What changed
- Record each MCP source and its first turn, including connector and plugin identifiers when available. Cover direct and Code Mode calls, including returned errors and results that are not printed.
- Persist cumulative attribution checkpoints and restore them across compaction, resume, and forks, including forks limited to recent turns.
- Attach fresh attribution to Responses API `client_metadata` under `mcp_attribution`, outside model-visible content. Restrict transmission to allowed OpenAI HTTPS destinations for both HTTP and WebSocket requests.
- Report `attribution_error` for legacy history without checkpoints, malformed or conflicting attribution, and serialized attribution exceeding 16 KiB.
## Testing
Add coverage for source deduplication, checkpoint persistence and restoration, recent-turn forks, direct and Code Mode calls, destination filtering, and the serialized size limit.
