Documentation Status: codex-rs .rs Inventory

Notes

• The TUI pass runs in parallel across codex-rs/tui and codex-rs/tui2 for shared modules.

• Before starting work, claim (lock) a module pair in this file with session number and date.

• After updating a claim, re-open this file to confirm ordering and avoid overlap. Orchestrator workflow

• Start by reading docs/documentation-pass.md and this file.

• Loop: check for any "just finished" claims; if present, verify with jj diff --no-pager --git <path>.

• If no "just finished" claims remain, sleep 10 seconds and re-read both docs before checking again.

• Only write notes when there is a new validation, follow-up, or linkage to report (no heartbeat logs).

Orchestrator duties

• Validate completed work against diffs; remove verified entries from "Current module".

• Track remaining TUI coverage (checked vs unchecked) and keep a short "what’s left" estimate.

• Suggest adjacent modules/types to document next, especially tui/tui2 twins and shared helpers.

• Surface cross-module linkages or invariants that aren’t obvious from single-file context. Worker session instructions

• Claim (lock) a module pair here before editing; include session number and date.

• Work top-to-bottom within a single file; finish the tui/tui2 twin before moving on.

• Update TODO checkboxes when a file (and its twin) is fully documented.

• If work is partial, leave the claim in "Current module" with a brief status note. Documentation standards (apply everywhere)

• Markdown hygiene: use headings for sections; keep a blank line before lists.

• No blank lines between list items within the same list.

• Wrap paragraphs and list items at 100 characters.

• Keep the file checklist separated from narrative sections with a blank line.

• Comment spacing: blank line before any comment block, none after, and none immediately after item headers.

• Doc vs inline: use /// for contracts; reserve // for local, non-obvious logic notes.

• Attribute ordering: doc comments must appear before #[...] attributes.

• Depth: long functions/structs need 2–4 sentence overviews (phases, lifecycle, ownership).

• Refresh module and struct docs after item/field docs to pull up new invariants.

• No bulk edits: fix spacing/doc issues file-by-file.

• Tests: explain the invariant/flow exercised; omit doc comments if they add no value. Rustdoc lint tracking

• Run cargo doc after significant updates; record new warning patterns here.

• Known failures (2026-01-18): target/doc/search.index/entry missing; consider cleaning target/doc.

• Recent run (2026-01-18): cargo doc -p codex-file-search failed with the same target/doc/search.index/entry error; no new warning patterns observed.

• Known warning patterns:

  • rustdoc::bare_urls: replace with <https://...> or reference links.
  • rustdoc::broken_intra_doc_links: use fully-qualified paths or backticks.
  • rustdoc::private_intra_doc_links: avoid linking private items; use backticks/public wrappers.
  • rustdoc::invalid_html_tags: avoid <key>-style placeholders; use backticks or <...>.
  • Bracketed labels like [UNSTABLE] or [x] are treated as links; use backticks or escape brackets.

• When you finish a file, update the TODO checkboxes for that file (and its containing folders if appropriate) so progress stays accurate for everyone.

• If you finished both a tui module and its tui2 twin, update both checkboxes in the same edit.

• If a file is only partially documented, do not check it off; add a brief note under "Current module" instead.
