ef8b356c22 Allow setting daybreakEnabled when starting a thread (#45513)
## What changed

Add experimental `thread/start.daybreakEnabled` so clients can set the initial preference for persistent threads. Omitted or null values leave it unset; explicit values are rejected for ephemeral threads.

Return the choice in the start response, `thread/started`, and reads before persistence. Stage it with the initial thread metadata and save it when the thread is persisted. Later changes still use `thread/metadata/update`. The preference does not select `turn/start.cyberAccessProgram` or grant access.

## Testing

Add coverage for true, false, and unset values in responses, notifications, reads, and reads after persistence and restart, plus rejection for ephemeral threads. Update existing metadata and access-program tests to exercise threads with an initial preference.

a20092a7a2 Expose effective login methods in config requirements (#45495)
## Why

Configuration requirements did not report which login methods the running app server permits after applying managed policy, forced login settings, and workspace restrictions.

## What changed

- Add `allowedLoginMethods` to `configRequirements/read`, using the running authentication manager's effective policy rather than newly read authentication settings.
- Return requirements when login methods are restricted even without managed requirements, while preserving `requirements: null` for the unrestricted default.
- Update protocol schemas and generated TypeScript and Python types. An empty list permits no login method; older servers may omit the field.

## Testing

Add coverage for managed and forced login restrictions, workspace intersections, policy reporting after requirements files change, invalid login methods, and API-only Amazon Bedrock without ChatGPT requests. Extend tests for conflicting authentication requirements and cloud policy precedence.

4d8eca1ff3 Attribute command and plugin analytics to the invoking model (#45445)
## Why

Command execution and plugin measurement events lack model and reasoning-effort labels. Attribution needs to reflect the step that invoked the command, even when model settings change before a background process finishes.

## What changed

- Add `model_slug` and `reasoning_effort` to command execution and plugin measurement analytics.
- Capture model context from resolved step settings and carry it through execution, approval, Guardian review, and plugin metrics collection.
- Preserve the first command-start model context when subsequent start notifications arrive.
- Keep the carried context out of serialized protocol items and generated schemas.

## Testing

Extend analytics tests to cover model switches before invocation and during background execution, default reasoning effort, Guardian-denied commands, and repeated start notifications retaining the original model context.

3052bbcf8c Remove the deprecated thread/rollback API (#44915)
## What changed

Remove `thread/rollback`, its request and response types, generated bindings, and the core `Op::ThreadRollback` operation. Requests now follow the generic unknown-method rejection path. Document `thread/revert` as the alternative for paginated threads.

Keep historical `ThreadRolledBack` markers and legacy error deserialization so existing rollouts remain compatible with replay and migration.

## Testing

Adapt retained-context and Guardian history tests to append legacy rollback markers and resume threads, preserving coverage of surviving instructions, answers, and review history.

c62d191c4c Expose disabled plugin settings in the app-server API (#44905)
## What changed

- Accept `disabledPluginIds` in `thread/settings/update` and `turn/start`. A supplied list replaces the saved selection; omission or `null` preserves it, and `[]` clears it.
- Return the selection in thread start, resume, and fork responses and `thread/settings/updated` notifications. Update generated schemas and client types.
- Restore disabled plugin IDs from the history retained at the requested fork boundary, preserving explicit overrides.

The selection persists across resume but does not yet filter plugin capabilities.

## Testing

Add coverage for replacing, preserving, and clearing selections without inference; turn-start notifications; resume; and fork boundaries across legacy and paginated history, with loaded and restarted parents. Add a core regression test for history restoration and explicit clearing.

e3a52b87b2 Expose available access programs in model discovery (#44893)
## What changed

Carry optional `available_access_programs` metadata through model information, presets, caches, and the TUI, and expose it as `availableAccessPrograms` in app-server `model/list` responses. Update the generated JSON schemas, TypeScript types, and Python models.

Preserve the distinction between missing metadata and an empty `cyber` list. Ignore unknown cyber program names when reading the catalog so new server programs do not prevent older clients from loading it. Discovery metadata does not grant access; inference still enforces authorization.

## Testing

Add coverage for absent, null, empty, and populated metadata, unknown program names, and app-server serialization. Extend cache tests and verify that online refreshes persist changed access metadata even when the catalog ETag stays unchanged.

7b491281c8 Return public key metadata from user verification enrollment (#44877)
## Why

The trusted UI host needs the local credential's public metadata to complete backend registration. `userVerification/enroll` previously returned only `credentialId`.

## What changed

- Return `algorithm` and `publicKey` for newly created or reused credentials. The algorithm is `ecdsaP256Sha256X962`; the public key is unpadded base64url SPKI-DER.
- Keep both fields optional in the protocol for compatibility with older app-servers, while current servers populate both.
- Document caller-owned backend registration and revocation, including checking metadata, signing an enrollment challenge with `userVerification/verify`, matching credential IDs, and preserving the authenticated account throughout registration.

## Testing

Add protocol coverage for absent or null metadata and populated-response round trips. Add an RPC assertion for enrollment metadata and extend the local enrollment test to check metadata when creating and reusing a key.

2fc4bda3ca Preserve originating context for yielded code-mode tool calls (#44866)
## Why

A code-mode cell can outlive its turn. Nested tool calls dispatched during a later turn need the original step's tools and context, while approval handling must still work across that turn boundary.

## What changed

- Retain each cell's originating `StepContext` for nested tool dispatch and cancel queued calls whose context has been released.
- Keep MCP approval metadata available for the lifetime of the running invocation, keyed by server and call ID.
- Apply Guardian denial accounting and interruption to the active turn, including reviews from an earlier cell.
- Carry `turn_id` in legacy MCP begin/end events so history reconstruction and rollout migration assign late completions to their original turn. Preserve the current-turn fallback for older records without it.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for originating tool selection across turns, callback and metadata cleanup, delayed MCP elicitation review, Guardian interruption of the active turn, and late MCP completion attribution with legacy compatibility.

7a6f469dcf Expose advertised MCP server capabilities in status responses (#44826)
## What changed

Add `serverCapabilities` to `mcpServerStatus/list` responses in both `full` and `toolsAndAuthOnly` modes, including thread-scoped reads. Return the initialized server's capabilities object, including its `extensions` map, or `null` when unavailable.

Capture capabilities during initialization so they remain available when tool discovery fails. Clear them on each new connection attempt and keep them independent of shared tool caches. Update the protocol schemas, generated TypeScript and Python types, and documentation.

## Testing

Add coverage for extension capabilities surviving tool-discovery failures in both detail modes. Extend existing tests to check advertised extensions, absent capabilities after initialization failure, and serialization of unavailable capabilities as `null`.

1aaa453ce2 Enforce managed model provider selection and definitions (#44650)
## What changed

- Support `model_provider` and `model_providers` in managed requirements. Required selection overrides local and session configuration; each required provider definition replaces the corresponding local entry, including its authentication and headers.
- Merge provider requirement fragments before validation, preserving source-relative `auth.cwd` paths. Reject invalid cloud provider definitions before replacing the cached bundle, including unsupported Bedrock overrides.
- Expose `modelProvider` and `modelProviders` through the configuration requirements API and generated schemas. Reject writes to managed provider settings and omit their local origins, including for provider IDs containing dots.

## Testing

Add tests for requirement precedence, authentication fragment merging, path resolution, cloud cache preservation, and read-only configuration RPCs. Integration tests verify that model discovery and inference use the required gateway and ChatGPT authentication without leaking local headers, and that provider requirements survive configuration rebuilds.

196964ef10 Preserve root turn attribution in turn-start events (#44611)
## Why

Persisted turn-start events lack the originating root turn ID, so they cannot directly associate child turns with the root turn that initiated them.

## What changed

- Add optional `root_turn_id` to `TurnStartedEvent`. Use the inherited root turn ID when available, otherwise the turn's own ID.
- Centralize turn-start emission for regular turns, shell commands, and manual compaction so they record attribution consistently.
- Carry attribution into `ThreadHistoryTurnChange` when processing turn-start events and retain it through completion in the history builder.
- Keep older records compatible by defaulting missing attribution to `None`.

## Testing

Add coverage for root and child turn attribution, persistence when tool collisions fail a turn before sampling, history change propagation, and deserialization of older turn-start records.

3319d9b296 Add app-server APIs for stored thread attachments (#44564)
## What changed

- Add `thread/attachment/add`, `thread/attachment/list`, and `thread/attachment/remove` to manage durable resource references without loading the owning thread or changing conversation history.
- Identify attachments by thread, `attachmentType`, and `identityKey`. Repeated adds return the existing attachment; repeated removals succeed without emitting another update. Listing supports cursor pagination.
- Broadcast `thread/attachment/updated` after creation or deletion, after responding to the requester. Serialize attachment mutations with thread lifecycle operations and reject stores that do not support attachments.
- Update protocol schemas, TypeScript and Python bindings, documentation, and TUI notification handling so attachment updates do not add untracked threads to the agent picker.

## Testing

Add coverage for unloaded threads, pagination, idempotent addition and removal, reattachment, invalid inputs, unsupported stores, response-before-notification ordering across clients, and TUI notification routing.

b5544d5732 Persist disabled plugin IDs in thread settings (#44332)
## What changed

- Add `disabled_plugin_ids` to thread startup options, settings overrides, snapshots, and persisted turn contexts. Omitted overrides preserve the current list; an empty list clears it.
- Restore the selection on resume and capture it before truncating history for a fork. Prefer the owning thread's latest settings snapshot, falling back only to the latest turn context so stale history cannot resurrect an older selection.
- Freeze the selection at turn admission and retain compatibility with histories that lack the new fields.

## Testing

Add coverage for owned settings, explicit clears, latest-turn fallback, and legacy snapshots. Extend settings tests to cover plugin selection during runtime restoration and compaction, and verify initial turn persistence without extra settings checkpoints in both history modes.

0adfc1f2f2 Return the prompt hash in upload responses (#44325)
## What changed

Add nullable `promptHash` to the upload response, populated from the uploaded `prompt_hash` tag. It identifies the whitespace-normalized SHA-256 of the session base instructions, excludes later developer messages, and is `null` when the reported rollout has no prompt metadata.

Update the protocol schemas, precomputed exports, and generated TypeScript and Python types.

aa88a0333c Preserve tool output truncation budgets across resume and fork (#44248)
## Why

Replaying tool outputs under a different model can expand or shrink the history shown to the model if truncation uses the new model's budget.

## What changed

Save the originating history truncation budget on function and custom tool outputs and reuse it during replay, preserving existing tool-specific overrides. Include the existing 20% serialization allowance once, before converting byte budgets to tokens.

Rename the metadata field to `history_truncation_token_limit` while retaining `fallback_token_limit_override` as its serialized name for compatibility.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for resume and fork with different model budgets, including custom tool outputs. Extend unit coverage for existing overrides and byte-budget conversion.

45134c0463 Generate Python SDK types from repository app-server schemas (#44032)
## Why

Keep Python protocol models aligned with the checked-in app-server schemas and preserve reviewed generated artifacts when staging SDK releases.

## What changed

- Generate SDK types from the schema directory configured in `pyproject.toml`, with a `--schema-dir` override, instead of invoking the pinned runtime binary.
- Refresh Python artifacts through `just write-app-server-schema` for standard repository exports. Skip SDK updates for scratch and experimental exports.
- Regenerate protocol models and notification dispatch, deriving the known payload union from the registry so `Notification.payload` covers every registered event.
- Explicitly allowlist convenience API parameters so new protocol fields do not silently expand method signatures. Preserve existing approval path wrappers.
- Stage SDK releases using checked-in generated files without regenerating them.

## Testing

Add coverage for schema selection, refresh gating and failure handling, release artifact preservation, notification payload typing, and approval path compatibility. Update the generation drift test to use repository schemas.

929389f596 Preserve per-image generation IDs in image generation analytics (#43953)
## What changed

82d4a98912 Add cancellation for native user-verification RPCs (#43925)
## Why

Canceling an elicitation does not stop a separate native verification RPC. Clients need a way to cancel that work and prevent a canceled proof from being delivered while it waits for outbound queue capacity.

## What changed

- Add experimental `userVerification/cancel` with `{requestId}` to signal cancellation of status, enroll, delete, or verify requests on the same connection.
- Return an empty acknowledgment without waiting for native work to exit. Unknown, finished, unrelated, and other-connection requests are no-ops.
- Retain request cancellation state until outbound capacity is available so canceled proofs are checked before enqueueing. Already enqueued responses and completed effects cannot be retracted.
- Document the API, request ID requirements, and independent lifetimes of elicitations and native verification RPCs.

## Testing

Add coverage for experimental opt-in, parameter validation, connection and request ID isolation, cancellation before native dispatch, repeated cancellation, worker-slot retention, and proof cancellation while waiting for outbound capacity.

6515a72db7 Preserve runtime workspace roots across thread resume (#43848)
## Why

Resuming a thread should retain its selected workspace folders, including additional roots and explicit empty selections. Resume overrides also need to survive a subsequent resume when no turn has run.

## What changed

- Persist `runtime_workspace_roots` in startup metadata and thread settings snapshots, separately from explicit environment selections and permission-profile roots.
- Restore roots from the latest snapshot owned by the resumed thread, falling back to owned startup metadata only when no snapshot exists. Honor explicit `runtimeWorkspaceRoots` overrides, retarget the old `cwd` root when `cwd` changes, deduplicate roots, and validate restored paths for the current host.
- Checkpoint effective settings on resume and restored settings after revert. Reload resume configuration if saved workspace roots change during loading.
- Normalize Windows rollout path spellings when matching thread search results, preserving selection of the correct rollout after revert, including compressed rollouts.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for workspace restoration, empty and explicit overrides, foreign paths, compaction and revert, resume checkpoints without recency changes, concurrent settings persistence, and rollout search path matching.

2cbbf0c9b5 Add memory dual writing and v2 readiness reporting (#43827)
## Why

Allow v2 memories to build in the background while the selected memory version continues supplying context, and let clients check whether v2 has enough consolidated data and a valid summary to use.

## What changed

- Add `memories.dual_write`, disabled by default, to run v1 and v2 extraction and consolidation concurrently with separate stores and directories.
- Add the experimental `memory/status` endpoint, returning `v2ConsolidatedThreads` and `v2Ready`. Readiness requires a valid v2 summary and a consolidation thread count meeting `minConsolidatedThreads` (default 20, supported range 1–4096).
- Persist the largest thread count from a successful consolidation across pruning and clear it on memory reset.
- Share v2 summary validation between consolidation and status reporting, and tag memory metrics with `memory_version`.

## Testing

Add tests for independent dual-write outputs, preserving existing notes without importing them into v2, and readiness behavior across consolidation ownership checks, missing summaries, configurable thresholds, thread deletion, and memory reset.

16ff14c266 Retain inherited Guardian instructions in standalone forks (#43478)
## Why

A standalone root forked from a worker needs its inherited user instructions for Guardian review, including after compaction. Parent input counters belong to a different thread, and omitted parent answers may have restricted an inherited authorization.

## What changed

- Adopt inherited user instructions into thread-owned retained context for standalone roots, recovering surviving checkpoint messages when needed.
- Keep inherited instructions before local evidence without sharing local acceptance counters, and preserve that distinction during reconciliation and rollback.
- Mark parent verified answers as incomplete and treat recovered checkpoint instructions as incomplete excerpts.

## Testing

Add coverage for standalone forks from copied history and truncated checkpoints, retention through compaction and resume, inherited/local ordering collisions, and rollback scope.

e1eb98461c Route approvals through the extension decision API (#43432)
## What changed

- Let approval extensions choose between cached approval, synchronous review, and a user prompt for tool and permission requests, while core enforces mandatory Guardian and fresh-review requirements.
- Carry an optional `review_reason` on Guardian assessment events and use it to trigger strict-review notifications, retaining the fallback for older events.
- Require synchronous review when cached evidence has an unusable encrypted parent compaction.

## Testing

555b82afa9 Add opt-in MCP user-verification transport (#43352)
## Why

Device-authenticated verification needs an app response outside automated approval and review. Previously, MCP user-verification requests were always cancelled.

## What changed

- Add typed `openai/userVerification` elicitations carrying a title, description, and challenge through core and app-server.
- Route verification to one connection enabled by trusted host activation. Restrict responses to that owner, exclude requests from replay, and cancel on disconnect or authentication changes, including account switches away and back.
- Return proofs in `content`, discard response metadata, and cancel malformed acceptances. Suppress verification response logging and analytics, and send only a generic verification notice to realtime.
- Keep the mode experimental and exclude it from stable schema exports. Capability advertisement remains disabled, and the TUI cancels verification requests.

## Testing

Add coverage for owner isolation, disconnect and authentication races, proof response handling, automated-review bypass, inactive-host cancellation, stable schema filtering, and realtime payload exclusion. Update the MCP integration test to verify that an activated request holds the tool until the client responds.

3921a30d6b Persist Daybreak preferences in thread metadata (#42854)
## Why

Clients need a per-thread Daybreak toggle that survives restarts and can be
restored on resume without changing the access program of an active or future
turn.

## What changed

- Add experimental `daybreakEnabled` support to `thread/metadata/update` and
expose the saved value on thread responses.
- Store the preference in SQLite, including for threads without a first turn,
and preserve it through reads, resumes, reconciliation, and restarts.
- Copy the preference when forking a thread while keeping subsequent updates
  independent.
- Keep `daybreakEnabled` separate from the per-turn `cyberAccessProgram` field;
app-server does not derive one from the other.

## Testing

- Cover persistence across restarts, cold reads, reconciliation, and forks.
- Verify metadata updates do not alter the access program of active or later
  turns.

773f0b081d Preserve executor paths in Guardian approval reviews (#42838)
## Why

Guardian approval actions can contain paths from a remote executor whose path convention differs from the host, such as Windows paths reviewed on a POSIX host. Converting those paths to host-native absolute paths prevents the action from being reviewed.

## What changed

- Render command working directories using the executor's reported path convention, and preserve URI-backed paths for attribution.
- Carry foreign command and patch paths through Guardian events and app-server schemas as legacy path strings.
- Bound remote plugin attribution within the overall review deadline and reject Guardian action payloads that exceed the review byte limit.

## Testing

- Cover Windows and POSIX executor path rendering, foreign patch paths, protocol round trips, oversized payload rejection, and remote Guardian review context.

99d66aa1c5 Preserve acceptance order in retained thread context (#42770)
## Why

Queued prompts and `request_user_input` answers can be persisted in a different
order from when the host accepted them. Using persistence order can therefore
reorder retained instructions during replay or apply the wrong rollback
boundary.

## What changed

- Reserve an acceptance sequence for user prompts and elicitation responses
when retained thread context is enabled.
- Persist that sequence with user-message metadata and verified answers, and
use it when ordering, bounding, replaying, and rolling back retained context.
- Keep events without acceptance metadata compatible with legacy recording

## Testing

- Cover delayed queued-input recording, rejected prompts, checkpoint replay,

## Why

Guardian review needs the original user instructions alongside verified answers, even after compaction, resume, or rollback. A summarized or legacy checkpoint cannot establish a complete instruction history.

## What changed

- Capture text user messages in retained context when `guardian_thread_context` is enabled, preserving their message identity through compaction and replay.
- Keep retained instructions and verified answers in arrival order, with independent size and completeness tracking for each family.
- Roll back retained evidence at the exact user-message boundary, including steers that share a turn ID, and apply the same semantics during rollout migration.
- Treat checkpoints without retained user messages as incomplete while preserving their verified answers.

## Testing

- Cover capture, compaction, resume, rollback, child forks, legacy checkpoints, storage bounds, and rollout migration.

f84c9776dc Deprecate detached review delivery (#42602)
## What changed

- Emit a connection-scoped `deprecationNotice` when `review/start` uses
`delivery: "detached"`, including when validation later rejects the request.
- Preserve detached review behavior while directing callers to use `thread/start`
followed by an inline review for a separate review thread.
- Document the deprecation and migration options in the app-server protocol and
  README.

## Testing

- Cover the notice for accepted and rejected detached reviews.
- Verify that omitted, null, and inline delivery do not emit the notice.

8f31b64c7f Report MCP tool discovery errors in server status (#42598)
## Why

An empty tool map does not distinguish a successfully returned empty catalog from a server whose startup or tool discovery failed.

## What changed

- Add nullable `toolsError` to each `mcpServerStatus/list` entry when no catalog is available because startup or tool discovery failed.
- Keep `toolsError` null for returned catalogs, including cached and empty catalogs, and continue returning healthy servers when another server fails.
- Update the protocol schemas and generated TypeScript type.

## Testing

- Extend the app-server status integration test with a broken MCP server and verify its error without losing the healthy server's inventory.

ad8ee16a5f Require Guardian review for incompatible compaction checkpoints (#42588)
## Why

Guardian can reuse an opaque parent compaction only when the checkpoint's
recorded producer hash matches the scoring model. Missing or incompatible
provenance must not allow an asynchronous score or cached approval to omit
compacted context.

## What changed

- Record the producing model's compatibility hash on compaction history items
and expose the latest checkpoint hash through conversation snapshots.
- In thread-owned context mode, fail closed and require synchronous review when
checkpoint reuse is enabled but the latest checkpoint is incompatible or has
  unknown provenance.
- Reject incompatible checkpoints in the sampler while preserving the legacy
  context behavior.

## Testing

Add coverage for local, remote, resumed, compacted, and rolled-back histories,
including matching, mismatched, missing, and empty compatibility hashes.

728cb12fe5 Expose thread originators through the app-server API (#42458)
## What changed

- Add the creation-time `originator` to app-server thread responses and `thread/started` notifications.
- Persist originators in thread metadata and preserve the first recorded value across list, read, resume, rollout, and SQLite paths.
- Add an `originators` allowlist to `thread/list` for hosted backends. The local app-server accepts omitted or empty values but rejects nonempty filters.

## Testing

- Cover originator persistence across server restarts and list, read, and resume requests.
- Verify local `thread/list` handling for nonempty, omitted, null, and empty originator filters.
- Heap-allocate large TUI dispatcher futures in affected tests to keep them within the Windows test-thread stack.

b27a6321fa Expose managed application network requirements (#42417)
## What changed

- Add `application.network` managed requirements with exact-domain allow/deny
rules, default-enabled behavior, domain normalization, and normal managed TOML
  precedence.
- Return the policy separately from agent network requirements through the
experimental `configRequirements/read` API. The endpoint reports the policy
  but does not enforce it.
- Export the new protocol types and schemas, and document the TOML format.

## Testing

- Cover parsing, validation, normalization, layered precedence, and cloud
  requirement composition.
- Verify app-server responses, defaults, separation from agent policy, and
  rejection of invalid domains.

2b554fd3f9 Expose loaded thread environments in app-server responses (#42386)
## What changed

- Add the experimental `Thread.environments` field with each selected environment's ID, working directory, and runtime workspace roots.
- Populate the field from live thread state in start, resume, read, list, and unarchive responses. Use `null` for unloaded threads and an empty list when a loaded thread has no environment selection.
- Document that the field reports selection rather than connection status and does not affect executor selection or resume behavior.

## Testing

- Cover selection updates, unloaded and resumed threads, loaded pathless unarchives, and clients that subscribe after environment connection notifications.

69cebb5d15 Route rollout reads through the canonical JSON decoder (#42378)
## Why

Directly deserializing the flattened `RolloutLine` envelope can reject nested
decimal values, preventing affected paginated sessions from resuming.

## What changed

- Add canonical string, byte, and reverse-scanner helpers that decode rollout
records through `serde_json::Value` before decoding the flattened item.
- Route rollout readers across session discovery, history, migration, search,
thread storage, and transcript previews through those helpers.
- Remove `Deserialize` from `RolloutLine` so new readers cannot bypass the
  canonical persistence decoder.

## Testing

Add coverage that resumes a paginated rollout after a token-count record with
a decimal rate-limit value and verifies that ordinal sequencing continues.

5037919777 Add Luna Reserve usage fallback to the TUI (#42372)
## Why

When ordinary included usage is exhausted, eligible users need a way to keep working with the backend-provided Luna Reserve quota and return to their previous model once ordinary usage recovers.

## What changed

- Automatically switch eligible TUI tasks to Luna Reserve after an authoritative account usage read, preserving the prior model and reasoning effort per task.
- Restrict model selection while on Reserve to its supported reasoning levels, keep queued turns on the accepted model, and restore the saved model after a fresh read confirms recovery.
- Surface Reserve usage in the composer and `/status`, and expose `normalModelSlug` in app-server rate-limit snapshots so clients can use the associated model's display metadata without changing the request model.
- Poll account limits more frequently near exhaustion and retain compatibility with app servers that only accept the legacy null request parameters.

## Testing

- Added coverage for Reserve entry, queued-turn handling, task reconstruction, recovery authorization, account changes, model selection, usage rendering, and banner dismissal.

577a4fcd06 Extend rate limit reads with usage capabilities (#42358)
## What changed

- Accept optional `account/rateLimits/read` capabilities for Luna Reserve support
and lightweight background polling while preserving omitted and `null` params.
- Forward the Luna Reserve capability only for eligible ChatGPT sessions, and let
lightweight polls skip the separate reset-credit detail request.
- Return the backend's `ordinaryUsageAllowed` decision only when its account and
user identity match the active session.

## Testing

- Cover capability defaults, eligible and restricted authentication modes,
lightweight polling, identity filtering, and backend permission handling.

0d502a4230 Support durable reasoning configuration updates (#42328)
## Why

Reasoning configuration changes need to retain their position and trusted provenance when model history is persisted and replayed. Client-injected history must not be able to forge these controls.

## What changed

- Add a typed `configuration_update` response item carrying reasoning effort, including custom model-defined values.
- Persist harness-authored updates with provenance and preserve them across history reconstruction, thread resume, raw response notifications, and agent forks.
- Exclude untrusted configuration updates from model history, strip client-supplied provenance metadata, and reject configuration updates supplied as turn input.
- Export the new item through the JSON and TypeScript app-server schemas and classify it in telemetry and persistence metrics.

## Testing

- Cover serialization, provenance persistence, history filtering and rollback, resume reconstruction, and injection attempts before and after restart.

eb078b4f44 Preserve target-native cwd in permission approval requests (#42314)
## Why

Permission requests can originate in an environment whose path convention differs from the Codex host. Requiring the request working directory to be host-native prevents those requests from reaching interactive approval.

## What changed

- Carry the request `cwd` as a `LegacyAppPathString` through core events and the app-server protocol so the target environment's native representation is preserved.
- Convert the preserved value back to a `PathUri` when materializing permission grants.
- Regenerate the JSON and TypeScript protocol schemas for the updated `cwd` type.

## Testing

- Exercise the app-server permission request round trip with a target-native working directory across host path conventions.
- Verify remote permission requests retain their environment working directory and granted access still unblocks later execution.

8e3b180d49 Preserve retained answers across steer rollbacks (#42298)
## Why

A steer creates a new instruction boundary without creating a new turn ID. Retained `request_user_input` answers that share that turn ID must not all be discarded when only the later steer is rolled back.

## What changed

- Associate retained answers with their originating function call and instruction boundary.
- Keep answers whose source calls survive rollback, including through compaction, resume, and rollout migration.
- Remove answers whose source calls belong to the rolled-back instruction.

## Testing

- Cover live rollback and resume with answers before and after a steer.
- Cover rollout migration when delayed answers share a turn ID but originate from different calls.

5971d42847 Preserve verified answers across history compaction (#42293)
## Why

Compaction replaces the model history window, but host-verified user answers may
still be needed for the rest of the owning thread.

## What changed

- Add bounded, model-invisible retained context for verified
  `request_user_input` answers.
- Persist retained context in rollout events and compaction checkpoints, and
restore it when a thread resumes.
- Remove answers when their source turns are rolled back, and prevent
parent-local answers from being inherited by child forks.

## Testing

Add lifecycle coverage for deduplication and size limits, compaction and resume,
rollback, rollout migration, and child forks.

28097e98eb Preserve Guardian history across thread reconstruction (#42065)
## Why

Guardian review evidence must remain available after a compacted thread is resumed or forked, while rolled-back or parent-local evidence must not grant authorization in a different context.

## What changed

- Store the bounded, model-invisible Guardian transcript alongside compacted rollout history and restore it from the newest surviving checkpoint during replay.
- Trim Guardian history at rollback boundaries, clearing it when the boundary has already been evicted.
- Preserve the checkpoint for user-initiated forks, but remove it when spawning a subagent so parent review evidence is not inherited.
- Keep the new rollout field optional for compatibility with existing compacted records and legacy readers.

## Testing

- Cover Guardian history across compaction, restart, paginated and pathless stores, user forks, rollback, bounded replay, serialization, and subagent forks.
