iceweasel-oai 8b78600dc8 Enable MXC selection through Windows sandbox configuration (#46271)
## What changed

- Accept `windows.sandbox = "mxc"` and preserve the selected backend through environment configuration, command execution, patch writes, and sandbox metadata.
- Treat MXC as enabled in the TUI and report Windows sandbox readiness as `ready`, avoiding legacy setup prompts.
- Keep `allowed_sandbox_implementations` scoped to the legacy elevated and unelevated backends without restricting MXC.
- Default `windows.sandbox_private_desktop` to `false` for MXC while retaining `true` for legacy sandboxes.

## Testing

Add coverage for MXC configuration precedence, legacy requirement handling, sandbox selection, and TUI state. Add a Wine integration test that verifies command and patch routing fails when native MXC is unavailable and reports `windows_mxc` in turn metadata.

Eric Traut ca99b271d4 Use app-server configuration for Windows sandbox state in the TUI (#45830)
## Why

The TUI's Windows sandbox turn-context override was ignored by `thread/settings/update`, and onboarding derived sandbox state from local configuration instead of the app server's effective configuration.

## What changed

- Read Windows sandbox configuration from the app server before showing the onboarding sandbox creation hint. Show the hint only when the read succeeds and the sandbox is disabled.
- Remove `windows_sandbox_level` from `AppCommand::OverrideTurnContext` and stop sending sandbox-only overrides after setup or feature changes.
- Rely on the effective configuration refresh after setup instead of updating local sandbox flags manually.

## Testing

Update the trust-directory rendering test and snapshot to cover the sandbox creation hint.

Eric Traut 02a8f038b8 Check folder consent before creating or resuming TUI tasks (#44755)
## What changed

- Check directory trust when dispatching tasks from Agent Command Center, resuming sessions, and opening loaded tasks.
- Return connected users to Agent Command Center when they cancel folder consent. Clear launch prompts and images on startup cancellation, and restore the composer draft when task dispatch is canceled.
- Reload local configuration after saving folder trust and review startup hooks before creating a new task.
- Label connected consent screens with “Back to Agent Command Center”; retain quit behavior for embedded sessions.

## Testing

Add a terminal integration test covering unknown and untrusted folders, server-authoritative trust, cancellation and retry, resumed tasks with changed directories, and hook review before task creation. Update consent-screen snapshots.

Eric Traut 84e7d4a1fe Check folder trust after resolving the startup destination (#44746)
## Why

Resume and fork selection can change the working directory. Folder consent needs to cover the selected destination, and existing tasks in untrusted folders may retain settings and history loaded while trusted.

## What changed

- Move startup consent after destination selection and reload local configuration when trust is saved.
- Check both selected and saved folders for local daemon resumes, and reread the task after consent to catch working directory changes.
- Resolve local trust using project markers, Git roots, and normalized paths, honoring explicit working directory decisions and canonical path precedence.
- Offer restricted-folder consent without changing saved trust, with distinct wording for existing tasks that may retain configuration or hooks. Preserve remote checks scoped to explicit `--cd`.

## Testing

Extend trust lookup coverage for parent/child decisions, repositories without project configuration, path aliases, and custom project markers. Update restricted-folder snapshots and add an existing-task snapshot.

Eric Traut 40b0409aa1 Clarify folder trust prompts and add restricted widget support (#44732)
## What changed

- Explain that folder settings can run code automatically and that the trust decision is saved. Label the actions “Trust and continue” and “Quit”, and show the Escape shortcut.
- Add a restricted state to `TrustDirectoryWidget` with an “Open restricted” action and a disclosure of which project features remain disabled. Skip trust persistence for this state. Onboarding still initializes the widget with `restricted: false`.

## Testing

Add a restricted-folder rendering snapshot and a test that accepting or cancelling the restricted widget does not persist trust. Update existing trust snapshots and the interactive startup safety test for the revised prompt.

Eric Traut 9d57be71ba Separate TUI preferences from server configuration (#42202)
## Why

TUI preferences and persistence paths belong to the local client, while thread
configuration and account requirements may come from the active app server.
Keeping both in the same resolved `Config` can replace live local preferences
when a thread is resumed, forked, reconnected, or switched.

## What changed

- Add `LocalSettings` as the TUI-owned source for UI, history, notice, and local
  persistence settings, and preserve it across session lifecycle transitions.
- Write preference changes to the selected user config file and reload local
  settings from disk when changing roots.
- Use the app server's account response for authentication-dependent onboarding
  and status UI instead of the local model-provider configuration.
- Retain platform family and OS metadata reported by remote app servers.

## Testing

- Cover local setting defaults, overrides, persistence destinations, reloads,
  and preservation across widget replacement and root switching.
- Cover remote platform metadata and server-controlled authentication UI.

Felipe Coury 7c1e36c23f Prepare the TUI for conversation recaps (#40696)
## What changed

- Forward terminal focus changes through the TUI event stream and handle them across interactive screens.
- Track completed turns and recap eligibility across active, resumed, and switched threads.
- Add bounded recent-conversation prompt construction and a wrapping `Conversation recap` history cell.
- Cover focus timing, repeat eligibility, restored progress, UTF-8 prompt limits, and recap rendering with unit and snapshot tests.

alexsong-oai f1a6f7c9b3 Add Amazon Bedrock setup to TUI onboarding (#40679)
## What changed

- Add a feature-gated Amazon Bedrock option to eligible TUI sign-in flows.
- Discover existing AWS profiles and environment credentials, with manual setup for profiles, access keys, environment variables, and Bedrock API keys.
- Collect the AWS Region, mask secrets during entry, persist the selected Bedrock configuration through the app server, and restart the embedded server when the provider changes.

## Testing

- Cover wizard eligibility, sign-in option rendering, credential discovery ordering, region entry, and secret masking.

Felipe Coury 70b5cfc73b Probe Windows terminal colors without risking startup input (#40598)
## Why

Windows Terminal and xterm.js can render a theme that differs from the
underlying console color table. Querying that visible theme through OSC shares
the console input queue with keystrokes, including input for security-sensitive
startup prompts.

## What changed

- Defer the Windows OSC color probe until protected startup decisions and the
  world-writable workspace scan have completed.
- Preserve and replay unrelated console input records around the probe, while
  removing only valid OSC 10 and 11 replies and retaining the console palette
  as a fallback.
- Require an explicit confirmation key after shortcuts select trust, sandbox,
  or world-writable warning choices, so a fragmented terminal reply cannot
  accept them.
- Accept one- through four-digit OSC RGB components so the visible terminal
  palette is applied across supported response formats.

## Testing

Added coverage for delayed startup scans, protected prompt confirmation,
console-record replay, bracketed paste and malformed OSC preservation, RGB
response parsing, and light-theme composer rendering.

alexsong-oai 4f6d43c267 Support managed AWS access keys for Amazon Bedrock (#40481)
## What changed

- Add the experimental `amazonBedrockAccessKeys` app-server login flow, persist its credentials in the configured auth store, and use them for SigV4-signed Bedrock requests.
- Report `bedrockAccessKeys` as a distinct auth mode and document access-key login alongside AWS profile and environment credential setup.
- Clear the selected Bedrock provider, AWS settings, and Bedrock-specific model on logout while leaving external AWS credentials and `.env` untouched.
- Reject managed access-key login when higher-precedence configuration would prevent its region or profile settings from taking effect.

## Testing

- Cover access-key login, storage, request signing, configuration conflicts, status reporting, and logout cleanup.

Eric Traut 34e4823a1d Prompt for project trust in remote TUI workspaces (#39082)
## What changed

- Query the remote app server for project config layers before starting a thread and show the trust prompt when the project has no existing decision.
- Resolve relative remote working directories and repository-root trust targets, then persist accepted trust through `config/batchWrite` on the remote server.
- Preserve existing trusted and untrusted decisions, including an untrusted repository that contains the requested working directory.
- Exit when the remote trust prompt is declined and ignore repeated key events in the trust selector.

## Testing

- Add coverage for remote trust detection, persistence, thread startup, existing decisions, nested untrusted projects, and rendering a remote Git subdirectory.

Charlie Marsh 58d2daba45 Harden TUI startup input handling (#38641)
## Why

Terminal probes and other bootstrap work can leave keys or partial control
sequences buffered before an interactive startup screen is visible. Those
inputs must not accidentally select or confirm an action, while typeahead
intended for the composer should survive terminal initialization.

## What changed

- Replay user input consumed by Unix startup probes through Crossterm while
  filtering completed terminal color replies, and avoid consuming the Windows
  console input queue when detecting default colors.
- Drain decoded and unread input after rendering actionable startup screens,
  including onboarding trust, migration, update, provider, resume, and hooks
  prompts. Keep incomplete control sequences quarantined and fail closed when
  an input boundary cannot be resolved.
- Restore terminal modes if initialization exits early and bound terminal probe
  reads by time and byte limits.

## Testing

Add parser, boundary, onboarding, and PTY coverage for preserved typeahead,
split escape sequences, bracketed paste, delayed input, and fresh input after
an interactive screen becomes ready.

cooper-oai 990218bbbd Fail closed when workload identity initialization fails (#38424)
## What changed

- Treat workload identity environment markers as an explicit authentication selection, even when another process credential is present.
- Return initialization errors from `AuthManager` and propagate them through commands and services instead of continuing with an unusable authentication state.
- Make `codex login status` validate workload identity, keep the TUI on an embedded app server for local workload identity, and reject workload identity in `codex mcp-server`, where it is unsupported.

## Testing

- Cover workload identity precedence and partial configuration errors.
- Verify login status reports an unreadable identity assertion and app-server routing enforces the supported workload identity topology.

Abhinav 2994f545a7 Enforce managed authentication requirements locally (#37132)
## Why

Authentication restrictions must apply before stored or environment-provided credentials can be used, including during bootstrap before cloud requirements are fetched.

## What changed

- Add local `requirements.toml` allowlists for login methods and ChatGPT workspaces. Ignore these fields in cloud-provided requirements.
- Combine managed workspace allowlists with existing workspace restrictions by intersection, and fail closed when the resulting policy permits no usable login method.
- Centralize policy checks in the authentication manager so CLI, TUI, app-server, external-auth, and credential-loading paths consistently reject disallowed authentication before token hydration or network requests.

## Testing

- Cover policy composition, workspace intersection, invalid stored and external credentials, bootstrap enforcement, and login endpoint restrictions.

Eric Traut 17801b4206 Prompt before trusting local project directories (#36960)
## Why

Trusting a directory enables project-local config, hooks, and exec policies, which can increase exposure to prompt injection. Require an explicit decision instead of automatically trusting projects whose trust level is unset.

## What changed

- Add a directory-trust step to TUI onboarding, with options to trust and continue or quit.
- Apply trust to the Git repository root when starting from a subdirectory, persist the decision, and reload config before continuing.
- Keep the prompt active and show the config error when trust cannot be persisted. Skip the prompt for remote workspaces and projects with an explicit trust level.

## Testing

- Cover trust-screen rendering, keyboard selection, persistence failures, and prompt visibility for explicit trust and Windows sandbox states.

Eric Traut 1e59dc5bda Trust undecided local projects automatically (#36935)
## What changed

- Replace the TUI directory-trust prompt with automatic trust for local projects whose trust level is unset. Keep explicit trust settings and remote workspaces unchanged.
- Persist trust for the resolved Git or configured project root, then reload configuration so project-local settings take effect.
- Fall back to an in-memory trust override and an embedded app server when the config update cannot be persisted.

## Testing

- Cover persisted and in-memory trust, custom project-root markers, and the working directories selected by resume and fork flows.

Daniel Wolf 5157493c23 Expose onboarding hints in login completion notifications (#36635)
## What changed

- Accept the allowlisted `.onboarding_entrypoint=life_sciences` suffix on a valid OAuth state while continuing to reject unknown or malformed suffixes.
- Return the parsed callback metadata from the login server without including the suffix in the token exchange redirect URI.
- Add the optional `onboardingEntrypoint` field and `life_sciences` value to the v2 `account/login/completed` notification and generated protocol exports.

## Testing

- Cover valid, invalid, and repeated OAuth state suffixes.
- Verify the end-to-end login callback result, token redirect URI, and app-server notification payload.

## What changed

- Carry dimensions on resize events and reuse the cached screen size for ordinary draws.
- Refresh terminal geometry after resize settling, process resume, and external program execution.
- Pass the resolved size through transcript reflow, viewport updates, and standalone TUI screens so each frame uses consistent dimensions.

## Testing

## What changed

- Upgrade `ratatui`, `ratatui-macros`, `crossterm`, and `ansi-to-tui`, and adapt the TUI to their updated rendering, backend, color-conversion, and cell APIs.
- Use Ratatui's cell-width and continuation-cell metadata when mapping OSC 8 hyperlinks so links remain aligned across wrapped wide glyphs and halfwidth characters with dakuten.
- Preserve explicit hyperlinks in the sign-in success screen and empty MCP state without embedding escape sequences in the text passed to Ratatui.

## Testing

- Add regression coverage for hyperlink placement across wide glyphs and halfwidth dakuten, hyperlink preservation in onboarding and MCP output, and display-width handling.

Michael Bolin f899a79c03 Propagate resolved proxy policy through auth routing (#34649)
## Why

Auth routing represented the default proxy policy as an absent configuration,
leaving consumers to reconstruct the fallback HTTP client independently. Carry
the application's resolved policy explicitly so auth and related requests use
the same client configuration.

## What changed

- Build `AuthRouteConfig` from the resolved `HttpClientFactory` for both
  `ReqwestDefault` and `RespectSystemProxy` policies.
- Pass that route configuration through login, auth, cloud task, and cloud
  configuration flows, and reuse its factory when loading cloud configuration.
- Log cloud-task configuration load failures before falling back to the
  transport-default proxy policy.

## Testing

Extended configuration tests to verify that effective and bootstrap auth routes
select the expected proxy policy when system-proxy support is enabled or
disabled by feature requirements.

rafael-jac 1fd0858e86 [login] support hosted success redirects (#28745)
## What

Adds an optional hosted login-success redirect path for app-server login
requests.

- Keeps the existing localhost success page as the default.
- Lets app-server callers opt into a hosted success page with an
optional protocol field.
- Persists credentials before redirecting to the hosted success page.
- Keeps org setup and existing CLI/device-code login flows on the local
success page.
- Accepts an optional typed `appBrand` value and forwards it to the
hosted page as `app_brand` so web can select the correct asset.
- Generates the app-server protocol schema updates for the new optional
fields.

## Why

This supports the hosted Codex login success page rollout without
changing existing login behavior by default. The Codex Apps frontend can
gate the opt-in with Statsig after the hosted web page.

## Rollout safety

- Old callers omit the new field and continue using localhost.
- New callers talking to old app-server builds remain safe because the
Codex Apps side treats the field as optional and defaults the flag off.
- Missing brand values default to Codex.
- The hosted redirect always uses the app-login source so the hosted
page can reopen Codex; the existing streamlined-login visual flag
remains separate.

## Validation

- `just fmt`
- `just fix -p codex-login -p codex-app-server-protocol -p
codex-app-server -p codex-app-server-test-client -p codex-tui`
- `just test -p codex-login`
- `just test -p codex-app-server-protocol`
- `just write-app-server-schema`
- `git diff HEAD --check`

The focused login and protocol run passed all 380 tests.

I also started the broader `just test -p codex-app-server`; it compiled
successfully, then many tests failed on this machine because spawned
test servers tried to use the ambient `/Users/rafaelj/.codex/sqlite`
state DB, which is read-only in this sandbox. I stopped that run after
confirming the failures shared that environment issue.

Adam Perry @ OpenAI 31372078d1 auth: move domain mode below app wire types (#29721)
## Why

Authentication mode is a domain concept used by login, model selection,
telemetry, and transports. Keeping the canonical type in app-server
protocol forces those lower-level crates to depend on an unrelated wire
API.

## What changed

- Added canonical `codex_protocol::auth::AuthMode` domain values.
- Kept the app-server wire DTO unchanged and added an explicit app-side
conversion.
- Removed production app-server-protocol dependencies from login,
model-provider-info, models-manager, and otel call paths.

## Stack

This is PR 2 of 6, stacked on [PR

delta from `codex/split-json-rpc-protocols`. Next: [PR

## Validation

- Auth and login coverage passed in the focused protocol/domain test
run.
- App-server account and auth conversion coverage passed.

canvrno-oai 1659c4a629 PAC 2 - Add shared auth system proxy contract (#26707)
## Summary

Stacked on #26706.

Adds the shared auth/system-proxy contract that later platform resolver
PRs plug into. This PR moves Codex-owned auth and startup HTTP clients
through a common route-aware boundary, but does not yet add Windows or
macOS system proxy resolution.

The default path remains unchanged when `respect_system_proxy` is absent
or disabled.

## Implementation

- Adds `codex-client/src/outbound_proxy.rs` with the shared
route-selection model:
  - `OutboundProxyConfig`;
  - `ClientRouteClass`;
  - `RouteFailureClass`;
  - `build_reqwest_client_for_route`.
- Preserves the existing reqwest/default-client behavior when no route
config is supplied.
- Uses the fixed MVP routing policy when route config is supplied:
platform system/PAC/WPAD discovery, then explicit env proxy variables,
then direct connection.
- Keeps platform-specific system discovery behind the shared client
boundary. This PR provides the contract and fallback behavior; later
resolver PRs plug in Windows and macOS discovery.
- Adds `login::AuthRouteConfig` so auth call sites depend on a small
policy type instead of platform resolver details.
- Maps the resolved `Config.respect_system_proxy` boolean into
`AuthRouteConfig` for auth-owned clients.
- Wires the route config through browser login, device-code login,
access-token login, login status, logout/revoke, token refresh, API-key
exchange, app-server account login, TUI/app startup, cloud-config
bootstrap, cloud tasks, plugin auth, and exec startup config loading.

## End-user behavior

- No behavior changes by default.
- When `respect_system_proxy = true`, auth-owned clients opt into the
shared route-aware client path.
- On platforms without a resolver implementation in this PR, system
discovery is unavailable and the route-aware path falls back to explicit
env proxy handling, then direct connection.
- Custom CA handling remains separate from proxy route selection and
still runs through the shared client builder.
- No proxy URLs, PAC contents, or resolved platform details are exposed
through the public config surface introduced here.

## Tests

Adds or updates coverage for:

- preserving default auth-client fallback behavior when no route config
is provided;
- injected environment-proxy fallback without mutating process
environment;
- existing login-server E2E flows using explicit `auth_route_config:
None` to guard unchanged default behavior;
- updated auth manager, login, logout, cloud-config, startup, and
plugin-auth call sites passing route config explicitly.

Celia Chen 56c97e3b5c feat: use encrypted local secrets for CLI auth (#27539)
## Why

Windows Credential Manager limits generic credential blobs to 2,560
bytes. Large serialized ChatGPT auth payloads can exceed that limit, so
keyring-mode CLI auth needs a backend that keeps only the encryption key
in the OS keyring and stores the payload in Codex's encrypted
local-secrets file.

This is the third PR in the encrypted-auth stack:

1. #27504 — feature and config selection
2. #27535 — auth-specific local-secrets namespaces
3. This PR — CLI auth implementation and activation
4. MCP OAuth implementation and activation

## What Changed

- Added encrypted CLI-auth storage using the `CliAuth` secrets
namespace.
- Preserved direct keyring storage for platforms/configurations where it
remains selected.
- Selected the backend consistently for login, logout, refresh,
device-code login, auth loading, and login restrictions.
- Threaded resolved bootstrap/full config through CLI, exec, TUI,
app-server account handling, cloud config, and cloud tasks.
- Removed stale `auth.json` fallback data after successful encrypted
saves and removed encrypted, direct-keyring, and fallback data during
logout.
- Added storage and integration coverage for both direct and encrypted
keyring modes.

MCP OAuth persistence is intentionally left to the next PR.

Eric Traut 1e5b87b4d7 Remove TUI legacy Windows sandbox dependency (#27490)
## Why

This is part of an ongoing attempt to eliminate the TUI's direct
dependency on core features. When we moved the TUI to the app server, we
left a `legacy_core` shim that re-exported some remaining core symbols
for the TUI. The intent was to eventually remove all of these.

In this PR, we remove the symbols related to the Windows sandbox.

The change should be behavior-neutral and low risk because it's just
refactoring and removal of code that is now effectively dead.

When working on this PR, I noticed a big existing problem that affects
mixed-platform remoting. For example, if you run the TUI on a Linux box
and remote into a Windows box, the TUI logic doesn't properly handle
Windows sandbox setup properly. Fixing this is beyond the scope of this
PR, but I've left a TODO comment in place so we don't forget.

## What changed

- Move the remaining TUI-specific sandbox level, setup, telemetry, and
read-root helpers into `codex-tui`, calling `codex-windows-sandbox`
directly.
- Remove the Windows sandbox namespace and read-root grant re-exports
from the client-side `legacy_core` facade.
- Remove the dormant pre-elevation prompt fallback guarded by the
permanently enabled `ELEVATED_SANDBOX_NUX_ENABLED` switch. The reachable
elevated and non-elevated setup flows remain unchanged.

cooper-oai df7818c7d1 [codex-rs] support v2 personal access tokens (#25731)
## Summary

- add v2 personal access token support for `codex login
--with-access-token` and `CODEX_ACCESS_TOKEN`
- classify opaque `at-` tokens separately from legacy Agent Identity
JWTs
- hydrate required ChatGPT account metadata through AuthAPI
`/v1/user-auth-credential/whoami`
- use PATs directly as bearer tokens while preserving existing ChatGPT
account surfaces
- expose PAT-backed auth as the explicit `personalAccessToken`
app-server auth mode

## Implementation

PAT auth is intentionally small and stateless. Loading a PAT performs
one AuthAPI metadata request, stores the hydrated metadata in the
in-memory auth object, and redacts the secret from debug output. Legacy
Agent Identity JWT handling remains unchanged. The shared access-token
classifier lives in a private neutral module because it dispatches
between both credential types.

PAT hydration fails closed when AuthAPI omits any required metadata,
including email. Hydrated metadata is intentionally not persisted:
startup performs a live `whoami` preflight so revoked tokens or changed
account metadata are not accepted from a stale cache.

## Workspace restriction scope

This change intentionally does **not** apply
`forced_chatgpt_workspace_id` to PAT authentication. The setting is a
client-side config guardrail, not an authorization boundary, and PAT
does not currently require workspace-ID parity. The PAT login and
`CODEX_ACCESS_TOKEN` paths therefore validate through AuthAPI without
threading workspace-restriction state through access-token loading.
Existing workspace checks for non-PAT auth remain on their established
paths.

## App-server compatibility

The public app-server `AuthMode` is shared across v1 and v2, and
PAT-backed auth reports `personalAccessToken` through both APIs.
Following human review, this intentionally removes the temporary v1
compatibility mapping that reported PATs as `chatgpt`; the deprecated v1
API is kept in parity with v2 rather than maintaining a separate closed
enum. Clients with exhaustive auth-mode handling in either API version
must add the new case and should generally treat it as ChatGPT-backed
unless they need PAT-specific behavior.

The v1 auth-status response still omits the raw PAT when `includeToken`
is requested because that response cannot carry the account metadata
needed to reuse the credential safely. Persisted PAT auth also omits the
new enum value so older Codex builds can deserialize `auth.json` and
infer PAT auth from the credential field after a rollback.

Eric Traut 3acd71fedb Surface TUI config write error causes (#26537)
## Summary

TUI config writes currently wrap app-server failures with local context
like `config/batchWrite failed in TUI`, but several user-visible paths
only render the outer error. That hides the actionable app-server
message, such as validation constraints or read-only `CODEX_HOME`
failures, leaving users with a dead-end diagnostic.

This change adds a small formatter next to the TUI config write helpers
that renders the error source chain, then uses it for model persistence,
feature persistence, project trust, status line writes, hook trust, and
hook enablement.

joeflorencio-openai d45cd26248 Switch runtime to cloud config bundle (#24622)
## Summary

- Adapts the moved `codex-cloud-config` crate from the legacy cloud
requirements endpoint to the new config bundle endpoint.
- Switches runtime consumers from `CloudRequirementsLoader` to
`CloudConfigBundleLoader` so one shared bundle supplies cloud-delivered
config and requirements.
- Removes the legacy cloud requirements domain loader path.

## Details

This intentionally keeps `codex-cloud-config` monolithic for review
lineage: the previous PR establishes the crate move, and this PR shows
the behavior change against that moved implementation. A follow-up PR
splits the module back into focused files.

The new bundle path preserves the important cloud requirements loader
semantics where intended: account-scoped signed cache, 30 minute TTL, 5
minute refresh cadence, retry/backoff, auth recovery, and fail-closed
startup loading. The cached payload changes from a single requirements
TOML string to the backend-delivered bundle, and validation rejects
malformed config or requirements fragments before cache write/use.

joeflorencio-openai 0b3a6f7185 Move cloud requirements crate to cloud config (#24621)
## Summary

- Moves the existing `codex-cloud-requirements` crate to
`codex-cloud-config`.
- Updates workspace dependencies and imports to the new crate name.
- Intentionally keeps runtime behavior unchanged: this still fetches the
legacy cloud requirements endpoint.

## Details

This PR exists to make the lineage obvious before the bundle migration.
GitHub should show the old `codex-rs/cloud-requirements/src/lib.rs`
implementation as moved to `codex-rs/cloud-config/src/lib.rs`, rather
than as unrelated new code.

The follow-up PR adapts this moved crate to the new config bundle API
and switches runtime consumers over.

Felipe Coury 7a26497836 feat(tui): add OSC 8 web links to rich content (#24472)
## Why

Wrapped URLs in rich TUI output, especially URLs rendered inside
Markdown tables, are split across terminal rows. In terminals that
support OSC 8 hyperlinks, treating each visible fragment as part of the
complete destination enables reliable open-link and copy-link actions
even after table layout wraps the URL.

This addresses the semantic-link portion of #12200 and the behavior
described in
https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/12200#issuecomment-4535452980. It
does not change ordinary drag-selection across bordered table rows.

## What Changed

- Added shared TUI OSC 8 support that validates `http://` and `https://`
destinations, sanitizes terminal payloads, and applies metadata
separately from visible line width/layout.
- Added semantic web-link annotations to assistant and proposed-plan
Markdown, including explicit web links and bare web URLs in prose and
table cells while excluding code and non-web Markdown destinations.
- Preserved complete URL targets through table wrapping, narrow pipe
fallback, streaming, transcript overlay rendering, history insertion,
and resize replay.
- Routed intentional Codex-owned links in notices,
status/setup/app-link, feedback, onboarding, MCP/plugin help, memories,
and update surfaces through the shared hyperlink handling.

## How to Test

1. Run Codex in a terminal with OSC 8 link support, such as Ghostty, and
request an assistant response containing a Markdown table whose last
column contains a long `https://` URL.
2. Make the terminal narrow enough for the URL to wrap across multiple
bordered table rows.
3. Use the terminal's open-link or copy-link action on more than one
wrapped URL fragment and confirm each fragment resolves to the complete
original URL.
4. Resize the terminal after the table is rendered and repeat the link
action to confirm the destination survives scrollback replay.
5. Open the transcript overlay while rich output is present and confirm
web links remain interactive there.
6. As a regression check, render inline/fenced code containing URL text
and a Markdown link such as
`[https://example.com](mailto:support@example.com)`; confirm these do
not acquire a web OSC 8 destination.

Targeted automated coverage exercised Markdown links and exclusions,
wrapped and pipe-fallback tables, streaming/transcript overlay
propagation, status-link truncation, and rendered word-wrapping cell
alignment. `just test -p codex-tui` was also run; it passed the
hyperlink coverage and reproduced two unrelated existing guardian
feature-flag test failures.

Eric Traut bb55736906 TUI config cleanup: trusted projects (#24255)
## Why
TUI onboarding trusted-project persistence should go through the same
app-server config write path as other config mutations. Writing
`config.toml` directly from the trust widget bypasses that layer and can
let onboarding proceed even when the trust decision was not actually
persisted.

## What changed
- Added a TUI config helper that writes the existing project trust
structure through `config/batchWrite`.
- Persists trust decisions as `projects.<project>.trust_level =
"trusted"` using the existing project trust key helper.
- Changed the trust directory widget to only record the user selection;
onboarding performs the app-server write before reporting success.
- Keeps the user on the trust screen and shows an error if app-server
persistence fails.

## Verification
- `cargo test -p codex-tui --lib
trust_persistence_failure_keeps_trust_step_in_progress`
- `cargo test -p codex-tui --lib
trusted_project_edit_targets_project_trust_level`
- Manual: built the local `codex-cli`, accepted the trust prompt in a
temp project, confirmed `projects.<project>.trust_level = "trusted"`,
and simulated an unwritable config to verify onboarding stays on the
trust screen without writing trust.

Michael Bolin 889ee018e7 config: add strict config parsing (#20559)
## Why

Codex intentionally ignores unknown `config.toml` fields by default so
older and newer config files keep working across versions. That leniency
also makes typo detection hard because misspelled or misplaced keys
disappear silently.

This change adds an opt-in strict config mode so users and tooling can
fail fast on unrecognized config fields without changing the default
permissive behavior.

This feature is possible because `serde_ignored` exposes the exact
signal Codex needs: it lets Codex run ordinary Serde deserialization
while recording fields Serde would otherwise ignore. That avoids
requiring `#[serde(deny_unknown_fields)]` across every config type and
keeps strict validation opt-in around the existing config model.

## What Changed

### Added strict config validation

- Added `serde_ignored`-based validation for `ConfigToml` in
`codex-rs/config/src/strict_config.rs`.
- Combined `serde_ignored` with `serde_path_to_error` so strict mode
preserves typed config error paths while also collecting fields Serde
would otherwise ignore.
- Added strict-mode validation for unknown `[features]` keys, including
keys that would otherwise be accepted by `FeaturesToml`'s flattened
boolean map.
- Kept typed config errors ahead of ignored-field reporting, so
malformed known fields are reported before unknown-field diagnostics.
- Added source-range diagnostics for top-level and nested unknown config
fields, including non-file managed preference source names.

### Kept parsing single-pass per source

- Reworked file and managed-config loading so strict validation reuses
the already parsed `TomlValue` for that source.
- For actual config files and managed config strings, the loader now
reads once, parses once, and validates that same parsed value instead of
deserializing multiple times.
- Validated `-c` / `--config` override layers with the same
base-directory context used for normal relative-path resolution, so
unknown override keys are still reported when another override contains
a relative path.

### Scoped `--strict-config` to config-heavy entry points

- Added support for `--strict-config` on the main config-loading entry
points where it is most useful:
  - `codex`
  - `codex resume`
  - `codex fork`
  - `codex exec`
  - `codex review`
  - `codex mcp-server`
  - `codex app-server` when running the server itself
  - the standalone `codex-app-server` binary
  - the standalone `codex-exec` binary
- Commands outside that set now reject `--strict-config` early with
targeted errors instead of accepting it everywhere through shared CLI
plumbing.
- `codex app-server` subcommands such as `proxy`, `daemon`, and
`generate-*` are intentionally excluded from the first rollout.
- When app-server strict mode sees invalid config, app-server exits with
the config error instead of logging a warning and continuing with
defaults.
- Introduced a dedicated `ReviewCommand` wrapper in `codex-rs/cli`
instead of extending shared `ReviewArgs`, so `--strict-config` stays on
the outer config-loading command surface and does not become part of the
reusable review payload used by `codex exec review`.

### Coverage

- Added tests for top-level and nested unknown config fields, unknown
`[features]` keys, typed-error precedence, source-location reporting,
and non-file managed preference source names.
- Added CLI coverage showing invalid `--enable`, invalid `--disable`,
and unknown `-c` overrides still error when `--strict-config` is
present, including compound-looking feature names such as
`multi_agent_v2.subagent_usage_hint_text`.
- Added integration coverage showing both `codex app-server
--strict-config` and standalone `codex-app-server --strict-config` exit
with an error for unknown config fields instead of starting with
fallback defaults.
- Added coverage showing unsupported command surfaces reject
`--strict-config` with explicit errors.

## Example Usage

Run Codex with strict config validation enabled:

```shell
codex --strict-config
```

Strict config mode is also available on the supported config-heavy
subcommands:

```shell
codex --strict-config exec "explain this repository"
codex review --strict-config --uncommitted
codex mcp-server --strict-config
codex app-server --strict-config --listen off
codex-app-server --strict-config --listen off
```

For example, if `~/.codex/config.toml` contains a typo in a key name:

```toml
model = "gpt-5"
approval_polic = "on-request"
```

then `codex --strict-config` reports the misspelled key instead of
silently ignoring it. The path is shortened to `~` here for readability:

```text
$ codex --strict-config
Error loading config.toml:
~/.codex/config.toml:2:1: unknown configuration field `approval_polic`
  |
2 | approval_polic = "on-request"
  | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
```

Without `--strict-config`, Codex keeps the existing permissive behavior
and ignores the unknown key.

Strict config mode also validates ad-hoc `-c` / `--config` overrides:

```text
$ codex --strict-config -c foo=bar
Error: unknown configuration field `foo` in -c/--config override
$ codex --strict-config -c features.foo=true
Error: unknown configuration field `features.foo` in -c/--config override
```

Invalid feature toggles are rejected too, including values that look
like nested config paths:

```text
$ codex --strict-config --enable does_not_exist
Error: Unknown feature flag: does_not_exist
$ codex --strict-config --disable does_not_exist
Error: Unknown feature flag: does_not_exist
$ codex --strict-config --enable multi_agent_v2.subagent_usage_hint_text
Error: Unknown feature flag: multi_agent_v2.subagent_usage_hint_text
```

Unsupported commands reject the flag explicitly:

```text
$ codex --strict-config cloud list
Error: `--strict-config` is not supported for `codex cloud`
```

## Verification

The `codex-cli` `strict_config` tests cover invalid `--enable`, invalid
`--disable`, the compound `multi_agent_v2.subagent_usage_hint_text`
case, unknown `-c` overrides, app-server strict startup failure through
`codex app-server`, and rejection for unsupported commands such as
`codex cloud`, `codex mcp`, `codex remote-control`, and `codex
app-server proxy`.

The config and config-loader tests cover unknown top-level fields,
unknown nested fields, unknown `[features]` keys, source-location
reporting, non-file managed config sources, and `-c` validation for keys
such as `features.foo`.

The app-server test suite covers standalone `codex-app-server
--strict-config` startup failure for an unknown config field.

## Documentation

The Codex CLI docs on developers.openai.com/codex should mention
`--strict-config` as an opt-in validation mode for supported
config-heavy entry points once this ships.

Felipe Coury cc16995cc6 feat(tui): add PR summary statusline items (#20892)
## Why?

The Codex App already exposes branch and PR context in its
branch-details UI. This brings the same context into the CLI footer as
opt-in statusline items, so users can choose the extra signal without
making the default footer busier.

## What?

Add optional `pull-request-number` and `branch-changes` items to the
configurable TUI status line.

- `pull-request-number` shows the open PR for the current checkout and
renders as a clickable terminal hyperlink when OSC 8 links are
supported.
- `branch-changes` shows committed additions/deletions against the
repository default branch, or `No changes` when the branch has no
committed diff.

<img width="1257" height="261" alt="CleanShot 2026-05-03 at 20 44 15"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/10b4380b-c3e9-4729-9ee1-3f742068fa47"
/>

## Architecture

This follows the same client/app-server split as the Codex App: the TUI
owns presentation, caching, and optional rendering, while
workspace-sensitive `git` and `gh` discovery runs through app-server.

The new TUI-local `workspace_command` layer sends bounded,
non-interactive `command/exec` requests to the active app-server. That
makes the implementation remote-friendly: the TUI does not decide
whether commands run in an embedded local workspace or a remote
workspace, and it does not bypass app-server sandbox or permission
policy.

The branch summary logic stays internal to `codex-tui` because this PR
only needs TUI statusline behavior. The command boundary is still
isolated behind `WorkspaceCommandExecutor`, so the lookup code can be
lifted or reused later without changing statusline rendering.

## How?

- Add a TUI `WorkspaceCommandExecutor` abstraction backed by app-server
`command/exec`.
- Add branch summary probes for:
  - current branch name,
  - open PR metadata,
  - committed branch diff stats against the default branch.
- Prefer remote-tracking default branch refs for diff stats, avoiding
stale or absent local `main` branches.
- Resolve PRs with `gh pr view` first, then fall back to
commit-associated PR lookup across parent/fork repos.
- Add `/statusline` picker entries, preview values, rendering, and OSC 8
clickable PR links.
- Keep all probes best-effort so missing `git`, missing `gh`, auth
failures, or non-git directories hide optional items instead of
surfacing footer errors.

## Validation

- `cargo test -p codex-tui branch_summary -- --nocapture`
- Snapshot coverage for the `/statusline` preview/setup rendering paths
- Hyperlink rendering coverage for clickable PR statusline cells

Ruslan Nigmatullin 4d201e340e state: pass state db handles through consumers (#20561)
## Why

SQLite state was still being opened from consumer paths, including lazy
`OnceCell`-backed thread-store call sites. That let one process
construct multiple state DB connections for the same Codex home, which
makes SQLite lock contention and `database is locked` failures much
easier to hit.

State DB lifetime should be chosen by main-like entrypoints and tests,
then passed through explicitly. Consumers should use the supplied
`Option<StateDbHandle>` or `StateDbHandle` and keep their existing
filesystem fallback or error behavior when no handle is available.

The startup path also needs to keep the rollout crate in charge of
SQLite state initialization. Opening `codex_state::StateRuntime`
directly bypasses rollout metadata backfill, so entrypoints should
initialize through `codex_rollout::state_db` and receive a handle only
after required rollout backfills have completed.

## What Changed

- Initialize the state DB in main-like entrypoints for CLI, TUI,
app-server, exec, MCP server, and the thread-manager sample.
- Pass `Option<StateDbHandle>` through `ThreadManager`,
`LocalThreadStore`, app-server processors, TUI app wiring, rollout
listing/recording, personality migration, shell snapshot cleanup,
session-name lookup, and memory/device-key consumers.
- Remove the lazy local state DB wrapper from the thread store so
non-test consumers use only the supplied handle or their existing
fallback path.
- Make `codex_rollout::state_db::init` the local state startup path: it
opens/migrates SQLite, runs rollout metadata backfill when needed, waits
for concurrent backfill workers up to a bounded timeout, verifies
completion, and then returns the initialized handle.
- Keep optional/non-owning SQLite helpers, such as remote TUI local
reads, as open-only paths that do not run startup backfill.
- Switch app-server startup from direct
`codex_state::StateRuntime::init` to the rollout state initializer so
app-server cannot skip rollout backfill.
- Collapse split rollout lookup/list APIs so callers use the normal
methods with an optional state handle instead of `_with_state_db`
variants.
- Restore `getConversationSummary(ThreadId)` to delegate through
`ThreadStore::read_thread` instead of a LocalThreadStore-specific
rollout path special case.
- Keep DB-backed rollout path lookup keyed on the DB row and file
existence, without imposing the filesystem filename convention on
existing DB rows.
- Verify readable DB-backed rollout paths against `session_meta.id`
before returning them, so a stale SQLite row that points at another
thread's JSONL falls back to filesystem search and read-repairs the DB
row.
- Keep `debug prompt-input` filesystem-only so a one-off debug command
does not initialize or backfill SQLite state just to print prompt input.
- Keep goal-session test Codex homes alive only in the goal-specific
helper, rather than leaking tempdirs from the shared session test
helper.
- Update tests and call sites to pass explicit state handles where DB
behavior is expected and explicit `None` where filesystem-only behavior
is intended.

Focused coverage added in `codex-rollout`:

- `recorder::tests::state_db_init_backfills_before_returning` verifies
the rollout metadata row exists before startup init returns.
- `state_db::tests::try_init_waits_for_concurrent_startup_backfill`
verifies startup waits for another worker to finish backfill instead of
disabling the handle for the process.
-
`state_db::tests::try_init_times_out_waiting_for_stuck_startup_backfill`
verifies startup does not hang indefinitely on a stuck backfill lease.
-
`tests::find_thread_path_accepts_existing_state_db_path_without_canonical_filename`
verifies DB-backed lookup accepts valid existing rollout paths even when
the filename does not include the thread UUID.
-
`tests::find_thread_path_falls_back_when_db_path_points_to_another_thread`
verifies DB-backed lookup ignores a stale row whose existing path
belongs to another thread and read-repairs the row after filesystem
fallback.

Focused coverage updated in `codex-core`:

- `rollout_list_find::find_prefers_sqlite_path_by_id` now uses a
DB-preferred rollout file with matching `session_meta.id`, so it still
verifies that valid SQLite paths win without depending on stale/empty
rollout contents.

`cargo test -p codex-app-server thread_list_respects_search_term_filter
-- --test-threads=1 --nocapture` was attempted locally but timed out
waiting for the app-server test harness `initialize` response before
reaching the changed thread-list code path.

`bazel test //codex-rs/thread-store:thread-store-unit-tests
--test_output=errors` was attempted locally after the thread-store fix,
but this container failed before target analysis while fetching `v8+`
through BuildBuddy/direct GitHub. The equivalent local crate coverage,
including `cargo test -p codex-thread-store`, passes.

A plain local `cargo check -p codex-rollout -p codex-app-server --tests`
also requires system `libcap.pc` for `codex-linux-sandbox`; the
follow-up app-server check above used `CODEX_SKIP_VENDORED_BWRAP=1` in
this container.

Eric Traut 227bee0445 Enforce animations = false for screen readers (#20564)
## Why

Issue #20489 calls out that animated TUI affordances can be noisy for
screen-reader users. Codex already has `tui.animations = false` as a
reduced-motion setting, but some live activity rows render spinner-style
prefixes in that mode. These were relatively recent regressions.

We have also regressed this pattern more than once by adding new
spinner/shimmer callsites that do not think through the reduced-motion
path, so this PR adds a small guardrail while fixing the current
surfaces.

## What changed

- Omit the live status-row spinner when animations are disabled, so the
row starts with stable text like `Working (...)`.
- Render running hook headers without the spinner prefix when animations
are disabled, while preserving shimmer/spinner behavior when animations
are enabled.
- Centralize TUI activity indicators in `tui/src/motion.rs`, with
explicit reduced-motion choices for hidden prefixes, static bullets, and
plain shimmer-text fallbacks.
- Route existing spinner/shimmer callsites through the central motion
helper, including exec rows, MCP/web-search/loading rows, hook rows,
plugin loading, and onboarding loading text.
- Add a source-scan regression test that rejects direct `spinner(...)`
or `shimmer_spans(...)` usage outside the central module and primitive
definition.
- Add focused coverage that reduced-motion active exec rows are stable,
status rows start without a spinner, running hooks omit the spinner, and
MCP inventory loading stays stable.
- Update the one affected status-indicator snapshot; the existing detail
tree prefix remains unchanged.

Eric Traut f2bc2f26a9 Remove core protocol dependency [2/2] (#20325)
## Why

With the local model layer and app-server routing in place from PR1,
this PR moves the active TUI runtime onto app-server notifications. The
affected pieces share the same event flow, so the command surface,
session state, bottom-pane prompts, chat rendering, history/status
views, and tests move together to keep the stacked branch buildable.

This PR also removes the obsolete compatibility surface that is no
longer used after the migration. The proposed protocol-boundary verifier
layer was dropped from the stack; enforcing that final boundary will be
simpler once `codex-tui` no longer needs any `codex_protocol`
references.

This PR is part 2 of a 2-PR stack:

1. Add TUI-owned replacement models and extract app-server event
routing.
2. Move the active TUI flow to app-server notifications and delete
obsolete adapter code.

## What changed

- Rewired app command and session handling to use app-server request and
notification shapes.
- Moved approval overlays, request-user-input flows, MCP elicitation,
realtime events, and review commands onto the app-server-facing model
surface.
- Updated chat rendering, history cells, status views, multi-agent UI,
replay state, and TUI tests to use app-server notifications plus the
local models introduced in PR1.
- Deleted `codex-rs/tui/src/app/app_server_adapter.rs` and the
superseded `chatwidget/tests/background_events.rs` fixture path.

## Verification

- `cargo check -p codex-tui --tests`
- Top of stack: `cargo test -p codex-tui`

Felipe Coury 5e737372ee feat(tui): add configurable keymap support (#18593)
## Why

The TUI currently handles keyboard shortcuts as hard-coded event matches
spread across app, composer, pager, list, approval, and navigation code.
That makes shortcuts hard to customize, makes displayed hints easy to
drift from actual behavior, and makes future keymap work riskier because
there is no central action inventory.

This PR adds the foundation for configurable, action-based keymaps
without adding the interactive remapping UI yet. Onboarding
intentionally stays on fixed startup shortcuts because users cannot
reasonably configure keymaps before completing onboarding.

This is PR1 in the keymap stack:

- PR1: #18593: configurable keymap foundation
- PR2: #18594: `/keymap` picker and guided remapping UI
- PR3: #18595: Vim composer mode and the remap option

## Design Notes

The new model resolves named actions into concrete runtime bindings once
from config, then passes those bindings to the UI surfaces that handle
input or render shortcut hints.

The main concepts are:

- **Context**: a scope where an action is active, such as `global`,
`chat`, `composer`, `editor`, `pager`, `list`, or `approval`.
- **Action**: a named operation inside a context, such as
`global.open_transcript`, `composer.submit`, or `pager.close`.
- **Binding**: one or more single-key shortcuts assigned to an action,
written as config strings such as `ctrl-t`, `alt-backspace`, or
`page-down`. Multi-step sequences such as `ctrl-x ctrl-s`, `g g`, or
leader-key flows are not part of this PR.
- **Resolution order**: context-specific config wins first, supported
global fallbacks come next, and built-in defaults fill in anything
unset.
- **Explicit unbinding**: an empty array removes an action binding in
that scope and does not fall through to a fallback binding.
- **Conflict validation**: a resolved keymap rejects duplicate active
bindings inside the same scope so one keypress cannot dispatch two
actions.

## What Changed

- Added `TuiKeymap` config support under `[tui.keymap]`, including typed
contexts/actions, key alias normalization, generated schema coverage,
and user-facing config errors.
- Added `RuntimeKeymap` resolution in `codex-rs/tui/src/keymap.rs`,
including fallback precedence, built-in defaults, explicit unbinding,
and per-context conflict validation.
- Rewired existing TUI handlers to consume resolved keymap actions
instead of directly matching hard-coded keys in each component.
- Updated key hint rendering and footer/pager/list surfaces so displayed
shortcuts follow the resolved keymap.
- Kept onboarding shortcuts fixed in
`codex-rs/tui/src/onboarding/keys.rs` instead of exposing them through
`[tui.keymap]`.

## Validation

The branch includes focused coverage for config parsing, key
normalization, runtime fallback resolution, explicit unbinding,
duplicate-key conflict validation, default keymap consistency,
onboarding startup key behavior, and UI hint snapshots affected by
resolved key bindings.

efrazer-oai 2009f6e894 refactor: make auth loading async (#19762)
## Summary

Auth loading used to expose synchronous construction helpers in several
places even though some auth sources now need async work. This PR makes
the auth-loading surface async and updates the callers to await it.

This is intentionally only plumbing. It does not change how
AgentIdentity tokens are decoded, how task runtime ids are allocated, or
how JWT signatures are verified.

## Stack

1. **This PR:** [refactor: make auth loading
async](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19762)
2. [refactor: load AgentIdentity runtime
eagerly](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19763)
3. [feat: verify AgentIdentity JWTs with
JWKS](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19764)

## Important call sites

| Area | Change |
| --- | --- |
| `codex-login` auth loading | `CodexAuth` and `AuthManager`
construction paths now await auth loading. |
| app-server startup | Auth manager construction is awaited during
initialization. |
| CLI/TUI/exec/MCP/chatgpt callers | Existing auth-loading calls now
await the same behavior. |
| cloud requirements storage loader | The loader becomes async so it can
share the same auth construction path. |
| auth tests | Tests that load auth now run in async contexts. |

## Testing

Tests: targeted Rust auth test compilation, formatter, scoped Clippy
fix, and Bazel lock check.

Felipe Coury 5591912f0b fix(tui): reflow scrollback on terminal resize (#18575)
Fixes multiple scrollback and terminal resize issues: #5538, #5576,
#8352, #12223, #16165, and #15380.

## Why

Codex writes finalized transcript output into terminal scrollback after
wrapping it for the current viewport width. A later terminal resize
could leave that scrollback shaped for the old width, so wider windows
kept narrow output and narrower windows could show stale wrapping
artifacts until enough new output replaced the visible area.

This is also the foundation PR for responsive markdown tables. Table
rendering needs finalized transcript content to be width-sensitive after
insertion, not only while content is first streaming. Markdown table
rendering itself stays in #18576.

## Stack

- PR1: resize backlog reflow and interrupt cleanup
- #18576: markdown table support

## What Changed

- Rebuild source-backed transcript history when the terminal width
changes. `terminal_resize_reflow` is introduced through the experimental
feature system, but is enabled by default for this rollout so we can
validate behavior across real terminals.
- Preserve assistant and plan stream source so finalized streaming
output can participate in resize reflow after consolidation.
- Debounce resize work, but force a final source-backed reflow when a
resize happened during active or unconsolidated streaming output.
- Clear stale pending history lines on resize so old-width wrapped
output is not emitted just before rebuilt scrollback.
- Bound replay work with `[tui.terminal_resize_reflow].max_rows`:
omitted uses terminal-specific defaults, `0` keeps all rendered rows,
and a positive value sets an explicit cap. The cap applies both while
initially replaying a resumed transcript into scrollback and when
rebuilding scrollback after terminal resize.
- Consolidate interrupted assistant streams before cleanup, then clear
pending stream output and active-tail state consistently.
- Move resize reflow and thread event buffering helpers out of `app.rs`
into dedicated TUI modules.
- Add focused coverage for resize reflow, feature-gated behavior,
streaming source preservation, interrupted output cleanup,
unicode-neutral text, terminal-specific row caps, and composer/layout
stability.

## Runtime Bounds

Resize reflow keeps only the most recent rendered rows when a row cap is
active. The default is `auto`, which maps to the detected terminal's
default scrollback size where Codex can identify it: VS Code `1000`,
Windows Terminal `9001`, WezTerm `3500`, and Alacritty `10000`.
Terminals without a dedicated mapping use the conservative fallback of
`1000` rows. Users can override this with `[tui.terminal_resize_reflow]
max_rows = N`, or set `max_rows = 0` to disable row limiting.

Eric Traut 216e7a0a56 Warn when trusting Git subdirectories (#18602)
Addresses #18505

## Summary

When Codex is launched from a subdirectory of a Git repository, the
onboarding trust prompt says it is trusting the current directory even
though the persisted trust target is the repository root. That can make
the scope of the trust decision unclear.

This updates the TUI trust prompt to show a yellow note only when the
current directory differs from the resolved trust target, explaining
that trust applies to the repository root and displaying that root. It
also removes the stale onboarding TODO now that the warning is
implemented.

viyatb-oaiandCodex 370bed4bf4 fix: trust-gate project hooks and exec policies (#14718)
## Summary
- trust-gate project `.codex` layers consistently, including repos that
have `.codex/hooks.json` or `.codex/execpolicy/*.rules` but no
`.codex/config.toml`
- keep disabled project layers in the config stack so nested trusted
project layers still resolve correctly, while preventing hooks and exec
policies from loading until the project is trusted
- update app-server/TUI onboarding copy to make the trust boundary
explicit and add regressions for loader, hooks, exec-policy, and
onboarding coverage

## Security
Before this change, an untrusted repo could auto-load project hooks or
exec policies from `.codex/` as long as `config.toml` was absent. This
makes trust the single gate for project-local config, hooks, and exec
policies.

## Stack
- Parent of #15936

## Test
- cargo test -p codex-core without_config_toml
