alexsong-oai b1263c593d Support credential export commands for gateway authentication (#59787)
## What changed

Allow `model_providers.<id>.gateway_oauth.credential_export` to supply a gateway access token instead of browser OAuth. Run the configured command on first use, cache its token in memory, and deliver it through the configured header or cookie. Export failures surface directly, and command-backed providers do not require an OAuth session.

Require mutually exclusive OAuth and exporter settings, same-origin model catalog access, and rejection of HTTP redirects for command-backed gateway credentials. Share the bounded, timeout-controlled command runner with AWS credential export.

## Testing

Add tests for inference and model listing without OAuth, token caching and recovery after invalid output, preservation of primary authentication, and rejection of mixed OAuth/exporter configuration.

cooper-oai 219ab4043e Use runtime authentication for OpenAI MCP and app requests (#59749)
## What changed

- Select fresh authentication for each HTTP operation on eligible OpenAI MCP connections while preserving the connection's credential source and account network policy. Stop redirects when requests carry runtime assertions.
- Pass the owning thread's authentication and runtime context through app discovery, connector metadata, and trusted-access requests. Include the runtime authentication mode in MCP connection and tool-cache identities.
- Give resumed actors analytics clients bound to their own authentication context, and serialize stored-credential reloads with token refresh while preserving host-provided credentials.

## Testing

Add coverage for fresh request assertions, revoked account policies, redirect handling, resumed-actor isolation, and MCP uploads in dual-header and assertion-only modes.

cooper-oai 8f32b72151 Bind reusable backend clients to runtime authentication (#59255)
## Why

Reusable clients need fresh authentication for each request while preserving the credential source and transport policy selected when the client was created.

## What changed

- Add runtime-aware backend client construction and per-request authentication. Allow token refresh within the original credential source, reject credential replacement, and validate destination and account/organization selectors.
- Let runtime authentication finish persisting rotated tokens when the requesting task is cancelled.
- Apply asynchronous authentication to file creation and finalization requests, generating fresh assertions while keeping credentials off blob uploads.
- Preserve direct sandbox routing without enabling legacy custom-CA fallback for protected clients that reject redirects.
- Exclude login account metadata from model cache identities when provider bearer credentials override the login, and record authentication selection outcomes and duration.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for credential refresh and replacement, organization selection, destination restrictions, transport policy preservation, cancellation during token rotation, credential stripping on redirects, and file upload authentication in both runtime authentication modes.

cooper-oai 079e17a422 Wire shared runtime authentication through threads and API clients (#59177)
## What changed

- Share a lazily registered runtime across threads, model discovery, and extension clients when `runtime_agent_instances` is enabled, while honoring each thread's authentication mode and credential owner.
- Bind model catalogs to the effective provider and authentication context while preserving cache policy and live API-key discovery settings.
- Resolve credentials, routing, and transport policy together for each request. Preserve proxy and TLS settings, validate runtime account selectors, and prevent pooled connections from crossing runtime identities.
- Accept supported ChatGPT subdomains when selecting the registration environment.

## Testing

Add integration coverage for shared runtime registration, dual-header and assertion-only modes, disabled and third-party providers, credential replacement, subagents, and delegated review. Add coverage for catalog cache policy and runtime-aware connection reuse.

sgarg-oai 53d3d7f64e Centralize provider request preparation auth checks (#58121)
## What changed

Move the model client's request-preparation loop into the shared `prepare_provider_request` helper and add `RequestAuthChange` to classify auth state changes. For managed auth, retry preparation when credentials change and reject account changes, including when the provider starts or stops exposing an auth manager during setup.

Capture the auth owner and credential generations together and pass them into the preparation callback so the resulting client setup records the state used for that attempt.

## Testing

Add a test verifying that an explicit provider bearer token survives a workspace switch during setup without retrying preparation.

cooper-oai 9cce575134 Share runtime authentication with model providers and catalogs (#57607)
## Why

Model catalog refreshes need to use the same registered actor and credential owner as model requests when runtime authentication is enabled.

## What changed

- Add `ProviderAuthContext` to carry credentials and optional runtime authentication into model providers and catalog clients.
- Select runtime authentication independently for inference and catalog destinations. Reject unsupported OpenAI origins while preserving provider authentication for other destinations.
- Include API organization and project selectors in runtime registration. Reuse registered runtimes across projects within an organization and replace them when the organization changes.
- Preserve transport restrictions and account bindings, and strip sensitive headers on cross-origin redirects.
- Apply the catalog timeout to authentication and fetching while allowing credential refresh and registration to finish safely.

## Testing

Add coverage for runtime-authenticated catalogs, provider isolation, resource selection, gateway authentication, cross-origin redirects, and timeout recovery that preserves registration and refreshed tokens.

lsingh-oai 3d1001e865 Route FedRAMP API keys to government endpoints by default (#57178)
## Why

API keys with FedRAMP issuance markers previously used commercial endpoint defaults without a FedRAMP request header.

## What changed

- Recognize `sk-proj-fedramp-` and `sk-svcacct-fedramp-` prefixes as routing hints and send `X-OpenAI-Fedramp: true`, preserving the complete key for authentication.
- Select `https://gov.api.openai.com/v1` for default OpenAI API routing and `https://gov.chatgpt.com/backend-api/` for default ChatGPT backend requests, including model discovery and analytics.
- Preserve explicit endpoint overrides, including an explicitly configured commercial default URL.
- Resolve provider routing and authentication from the same credential snapshot, and apply key-dependent routing to realtime WebSocket startup.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for prefix recognition, unchanged key storage and authorization, provider credential precedence, endpoint overrides, credential rotation, model discovery, analytics routing, and realtime request preparation.

smurching-oai 6e319d2ca7 Clarify config loader APIs and share interactive login setup (#57169)
## What changed

- Rename ChatGPT-specific bundle loaders to `chatgpt_config_bundle_loader*` and use managed-config terminology for shared loader plumbing.
- Pass `Config` directly when updating the app-server's managed configuration loader.
- Share configuration loading, logging setup, and result handling between browser and device-code login.
- Expose the CLI cloud-config helpers and `provider_uses_first_party_auth_path` through their library APIs.

## Testing

Extend CLI login coverage to verify that `forced_login_method="api"` rejects both `login` and `login --device-auth` while preserving saved API-key credentials.

Celia Chen 3fd148a20c Add a built-in Google Cloud Vertex AI provider (#56265)
## What changed

- Support `model_provider = "gcp"` with a Vertex AI endpoint derived from `GOOGLE_CLOUD_PROJECT` and `GOOGLE_CLOUD_LOCATION`, defaulting to the `global` location.
- Obtain credentials through `gcloud auth application-default print-access-token` by default, and allow `base_url`, `auth`, and `http_headers` overrides under `model_providers.gcp`.
- Use a static model catalog tailored to Vertex AI, preserve function tools, namespaces, and client-side tool search, and support remote compaction V2. Disable unsupported reasoning summaries, Responses Lite, custom tools, web search, and image generation.
- Expose a `gcp` account type through the app-server protocol and generated clients without resolving credentials during account reads or requiring OpenAI authentication.

## Testing

Add coverage for endpoint resolution, configuration overrides, model catalog filtering, authenticated requests, unsupported request fields, missing credentials, account reporting across provider changes, and automatic remote compaction.

Celia Chen c6049ebd96 Add capability overrides for custom model providers (#50459)
## What changed

Allow Responses-compatible providers to configure live web access and remote compaction under `model_providers.<id>.capabilities`:

```toml
[model_providers.custom.capabilities]
external_web_access = false
remote_compaction = "v2"
```

`external_web_access = false` keeps hosted web search from accessing the live web. `remote_compaction` accepts `v2` to send `compaction_trigger` items through the Responses endpoint, or `unsupported` to use local compaction. Omitted capabilities retain existing provider defaults.

## Testing

Add unit coverage for preserving unspecified defaults and a request-snapshot scenario verifying cached web search and V2 compaction for a custom provider.

alexsong-oai a5eac80150 Add an advisory Bedrock GovCloud requirements check (#49817)
## What changed

Add the experimental `account/bedrock/checkGovCloudRequirements` RPC so clients can check the active Bedrock configuration after login or setup. It returns `isGovCloud` and `shouldWarn`, warning for GovCloud when managed requirements lack API-only login or enabled application network restrictions with an explicit allow entry for the active endpoint domain.

Reload configuration and requirements on each check while preserving the current session's authentication. Official Bedrock endpoint hostnames determine the region; otherwise, resolve it using the current authentication state. Non-Bedrock providers and commercial regions return both fields as `false`; configuration and region resolution failures return RPC errors. The check is advisory and does not block login or certify the entire network configuration.

## Testing

Add integration coverage for configuration and requirements updates without a restart, login changes, unreadable saved credentials, Mantle and Runtime endpoints, custom proxies, official endpoint region precedence, and invalid requirements.

alexsong-oai 4d23af0975 Compose gateway OAuth with primary provider authentication (#46490)
## Why

Providers configured with `gateway_oauth` need gateway credentials alongside primary authentication for inference and model discovery.

## What changed

- Attach gateway tokens through the configured header or cookie while preserving primary authentication, including WebSocket handshake headers.
- Share gateway credential managers across matching provider instances and model discovery so they observe refreshed tokens.
- Reject authentication on gateway setup or token failures, invalid token values, and conflicting auth headers. Mark gateway headers sensitive and avoid exposing issuer error details.
- Include gateway OAuth configuration in model catalog cache identity to prevent reuse across different gateway configurations.

## Testing

Add provider and core integration tests covering combined credentials, header and cookie delivery, token refresh, shared credential state, cache isolation, and request blocking on gateway token or HTTP client initialization failures.

acrognale-oai 58e2e8cf3c Add workspace routing support for Responses requests (#45812)
## What changed

- Add an optional `WorkspaceRoutingResolver` to `AuthManager` and pass session configuration into routing lookups. Callers without a resolver retain existing routing behavior.
- Apply resolved backend origins and account routing overrides to eligible ChatGPT Responses HTTP requests and WebSocket handshakes. Preserve endpoint paths, validate routing values, and reject HTTP redirects for routed requests, including `NO_CONSTRAINT` routes.
- Key cached WebSocket connections by destination, routing header, and auth revision. Rebuild request setup after credential refreshes and reject account changes during setup or routing discovery.
- Serialize routing lookups per session and retain whether the session has previously been routed.

## Testing

Add tests for path preservation, provider exclusions, concurrent routing lookups, unavailable resolvers, workspace mismatches, redirect rejection, and credential refresh or account changes during request setup.

Ahmed Ibrahim f046cf35df Scope model catalog caches to the current provider and auth identity (#43906)
## Why

Switching providers or authentication could reuse a previous identity's model catalog, including its default service tier. An in-flight refresh could also overwrite a newer account's catalog after cache storage completed.

## What changed

- Require a matching provider and auth identity for disk and in-memory catalog reuse. Treat legacy entries without an identity as cache misses and fall back to bundled metadata when the in-memory identity no longer matches.
- Recheck identity after fetching and storing a catalog before publishing it.
- Renew cache freshness only when the client version, identity, and ETag match the stored entry.
- Update cache fixtures to include the configured provider and auth identity.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for provider and auth switches, credential rotation, legacy and mismatched cache entries, conditional TTL renewal, and an account switch during cache storage. Verify that API-key requests do not inherit a ChatGPT catalog's default `service_tier`, while explicit tier selection still works.

Ahmed Ibrahim f31bd3adff Persist provider and auth identity with model catalog caches (#43897)
## What changed

Add a SHA-256 identity derived from provider routing, headers, and authentication scope. Return it with each model catalog response and persist it in `ModelsCacheEntry`. ChatGPT credentials with stable account and user metadata retain the same identity across token refreshes; opaque API credentials contribute to the digest.

## Testing

Add identity tests covering account, user, email, plan, auth mode, provider routing, headers, and API credential changes, plus stability across ChatGPT token refreshes. Update cache tests to include the persisted identity.

alexsong-oai 3929c99a97 Refresh expired AWS credentials for Bedrock (#39410)
## Why

Bedrock sessions that use the AWS SDK credential chain need a way to recover when credentials expire during a request.

## What changed

- Add `aws.auth_refresh` provider configuration with an `aws` command, arguments, and a configurable timeout.
- Run the command for refreshable Bedrock authentication failures, reload the SDK credentials, re-sign the request, and retry it.
- Share refresh state across matching provider configurations so concurrent failures invoke the command only once. Bearer tokens, command auth, and static environment credentials do not use this recovery path.

## Testing

- Add coverage for configuration validation, refreshable error classification, concurrent refresh sharing, and an end-to-end retry signed with refreshed credentials.

stevenlee-oai 555aa79d5a [connectors] Refresh codex_apps /ps/mcp auth (#31486)
[Codex Thread
019f2408-dc59-79f2-b245-4c11debd1a61](https://codex-thread-link.openai.chatgpt-team.site/thread/019f2408-dc59-79f2-b245-4c11debd1a61)

## Why

Long-lived Codex sessions can outlive the ChatGPT bearer token that was
present when the MCP runtime started.

The Responses path already recovers from token expiration by refreshing
or reloading the shared `AuthManager`. The reserved `codex_apps`
hosted-plugin client did not observe that update: `McpConnectionManager`
built its `/ps/mcp` HTTP auth once from a `CodexAuth` snapshot, and
`auth_provider_from_auth` copied that snapshot bearer into a static
`BearerAuthProvider`.

After the copied bearer expired, `/ps/mcp` kept sending it even though
Responses had a newer token in the same `AuthManager`. The failure
occurred before downstream connector execution, so unrelated apps such
as Gmail, Slack, and Google Calendar could all fail with the same
transport-level `401 token_expired`.

This replaces
[openai/codex#29474](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/29474), which
was closed for inactivity without being merged. A new long-lived-session
report reproduced the same simultaneous `/ps/mcp` expiry pattern across
unrelated apps.

## What changed

- Add an `AuthManager`-backed request-header provider in
`codex-model-provider`. It keeps an `Arc<AuthManager>` and reads
`auth_cached()` for each outbound request, so the next `/ps/mcp` call
sees a token refreshed by the existing Responses/auth-recovery flow.
- Scope that provider to the startup account, ChatGPT user, and
workspace identity. Same-identity token reloads are followed; an account
switch emits no ambient auth until account-scoped MCP state is rebuilt.
- Have `McpConnectionManager` construct the dynamic provider only for
the reserved `codex_apps` registration used by the hosted-plugin
`/ps/mcp` path.

| MCP path | Auth behavior after this change |
| --- | --- |
| Reserved `codex_apps` hosted-plugin `/ps/mcp` | Read current
same-identity auth from the shared `AuthManager` per request |
| `codex_apps` with `CODEX_CONNECTORS_TOKEN` | Keep the environment
bearer-token override |
| User-configured/direct MCP registrations | Keep their existing
configured auth path |

## Non-goals

- No plugin-service changes.
- No downstream Slack, Gmail, Calendar, or other connector
OAuth/link-refresh changes.
- No auth UI changes.
- No behavior change for user-configured/direct MCP registrations.
- No new `/ps/mcp`-initiated token refresh; this makes `/ps/mcp` observe
refreshes already performed through the shared `AuthManager`.

## Tests

- `just test -p codex-model-provider`
- Covers same-identity token reloads and refuses a changed startup
identity.
- `just test -p codex-mcp`
- `just test -p codex-core mcp_auth_refresh`
- Creates the reserved hosted-plugin `codex_apps` `/ps/mcp` client
before the shared `AuthManager` changes, updates that same manager
through its public external-auth path, performs a real `tools/call`, and
asserts the request uses the current bearer.

Adrian 51864b0b4b feat: use run agent task auth for inference (#19051)
## Stack

This is PR 3 of the simplified HAI single-run-task stack:

- [#19047](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19047) Agent Identity
assertion and task-registration primitives, including the shared
run-task helper used by existing Agent Identity JWT auth.
- [#19049](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19049)
Disabled-by-default ChatGPT auth opt-in that provisions/reuses persisted
Agent Identity runtime auth and its single run task.
- [#19051](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19051) Run-scoped
provider auth that uses one backend-owned task id for first-party
inference and compaction requests.

[#19054](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/19054) collapsed out of
the active stack because the simplified design no longer needs a
separate background/control-plane task helper.

## Summary

This PR moves Agent Identity usage into provider auth resolution. That
keeps `AgentAssertion` auth tied to first-party OpenAI provider requests
instead of applying a late session-wide override that could affect
local, custom, Bedrock, API-key, or external-bearer providers.

What changed:

- adds a small `ProviderAuthScope` struct carrying the run auth policy
and session source needed by provider-scoped auth resolution
- lets `Session` opt the existing `ModelClient` into `ChatGptAuth`
policy when `use_agent_identity` is enabled, without adding a second
model-client constructor
- resolves Agent Identity only for first-party OpenAI provider auth
paths
- uses the persisted run task id from the `AgentIdentityAuth` record to
build `AgentAssertion` auth for Responses requests
- routes shared request setup through scoped provider auth so unary
compact requests use the same run-task assertion path as inference turns
- keeps local/custom/Bedrock/env-key/external-bearer provider auth
unchanged
- lets missing run-task state surface through the existing model-request
error path instead of silently falling back to bearer auth

This PR intentionally does not create thread-scoped, target-scoped, or
background-scoped task identities. The run task is the only task Codex
registers in this POC shape.

Ahmed Ibrahim f8937b7d86 Represent MCP authentication with an enum (#29924)
## Why

MCP authentication has distinct OAuth and ChatGPT-session flows.
Representing that choice as `use_chatgpt_auth` makes one flow implicit
and allows the configuration model to express the distinction only
through a boolean.

ChatGPT credential forwarding also needs a first-party trust boundary. A
configurable `chatgpt_base_url` controls routing, but must not grant an
MCP server permission to receive session credentials.

This change builds on #29733, where the boolean was introduced.

## What changed

- Replace `use_chatgpt_auth` with an `auth` field backed by the
exhaustive `McpServerAuth` enum.
- Support `auth = "oauth"` and `auth = "chatgpt"`, with OAuth remaining
the default.
- Trust only the origin derived from the existing hardcoded
`CHATGPT_CODEX_BASE_URL` when granting ChatGPT auth to an MCP server.
- Keep configured bearer tokens and authorization headers ahead of the
selected authentication flow.
- Update config writers, schema output, fixtures, and integration-test
setup to use the enum.

## Verification

Integration coverage exercises the complete streamable HTTP startup path
in two independent configurations:

- A directly constructed MCP configuration verifies that matching an
overridden `chatgpt_base_url` does not grant ChatGPT auth.
- A persisted `config.toml` containing an attacker-controlled
`chatgpt_base_url` and `auth = "chatgpt"` verifies the same boundary
through normal config parsing.

Both tests complete MCP initialization and tool listing and assert that
the full captured request sequence contains no authorization headers.
Separate integration coverage verifies that configured authorization
takes precedence over ChatGPT auth.

Adam Perry @ OpenAI 5a56caf18c [codex] Remove async_trait from first-party code (#27475)
## Why

First-party async traits should expose their `Send` contracts explicitly
without requiring `async_trait`. This completes the migration pattern
established in #27303 and #27304.

## What changed

- Replaced the remaining first-party `async_trait` traits with native
return-position `impl Future + Send` where statically dispatched and
explicit boxed `Send` futures where object safety is required.
- Kept implementations behavior-preserving, outlining existing async
bodies into inherent methods where that keeps the diff reviewable.
- Removed all direct first-party `async-trait` dependencies and the
workspace dependency declaration.
- Added a cargo-deny policy that permits `async-trait` only through the
remaining transitive wrapper crates.
- Updated `rand` from 0.8.5 to 0.8.6 to resolve RUSTSEC-2026-0097 and
keep the full cargo-deny check passing.

Celia Chen f8fe96d548 feat: disable capabilities by model provider (#19442)
## Why

Unsupported features must fail closed and Codex must not expose
OpenAI-hosted fallback paths when the active provider cannot support
them. In practice, Bedrock should not surface app connectors, MCP
servers, tool search/suggestions, image generation, web search, or JS
REPL until those paths are explicitly supported for that provider.

This PR moves that decision into provider-owned capability metadata
instead of scattering Bedrock-specific checks across callers.

## What changed

- Adds `ProviderCapabilities` to `codex-model-provider`, with default
support for existing providers and a Bedrock override that disables
unsupported launch surfaces.
- Adds `ToolCapabilityBounds` to `codex-tools` so provider capability
limits can clamp otherwise-enabled tool config.
- Applies capability bounds when building session and review-thread tool
config.
- Routes MCP/app connector configuration through
`McpManager::mcp_config`, which filters configured MCP servers and app
connectors based on the active provider.
- Updates app-server MCP list/read paths to use the filtered MCP config.
- Adds coverage for default provider capabilities, Bedrock disabled
capabilities, and optional tool-surface clamping.

## Testing

built locally and verified that bedrock responses api now return without
errors calling unsupported tools.

Celia Chen e8d8080818 feat: let model providers own model discovery (#18950)
## Why

`codex-models-manager` had grown to own provider-specific concerns:
constructing OpenAI-compatible `/models` requests, resolving provider
auth, emitting request telemetry, and deciding how provider catalogs
should be sourced. That made the manager harder to reuse for providers
whose model catalog is not fetched from the OpenAI `/models` endpoint,
such as Amazon Bedrock.

This change moves provider-specific model discovery behind
provider-owned implementations, so the models manager can focus on
refresh policy, cache behavior, picker ordering, and model metadata
merging.

## What Changed

- Introduced a `ModelsManager` trait with separate `OpenAiModelsManager`
and `StaticModelsManager` implementations.
- Added `ModelsEndpointClient` so OpenAI-compatible HTTP fetching lives
outside `codex-models-manager`.
- Moved `/models` request construction, provider auth resolution,
timeout handling, and request telemetry into `codex-model-provider` via
`OpenAiModelsEndpoint`.
- Added provider-owned `models_manager(...)` construction so configured
OpenAI-compatible providers use `OpenAiModelsManager`, while
static/catalog-backed providers can return `StaticModelsManager`.
- Added an Amazon Bedrock static model catalog for the GPT OSS Bedrock
model IDs.
- Updated core/session/thread manager code and tests to depend on
`Arc<dyn ModelsManager>`.
- Moved offline model test helpers into
`codex_models_manager::test_support`.
## Metadata References

The Bedrock catalog metadata is based on the official Amazon Bedrock
OpenAI model documentation:

- [Amazon Bedrock OpenAI
models](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/bedrock/latest/userguide/model-parameters-openai.html)
lists the Bedrock model IDs, text input/output modalities, and `128,000`
token context window for `gpt-oss-20b` and `gpt-oss-120b`.
- [Amazon Bedrock `gpt-oss-120b` model
card](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/bedrock/latest/userguide/model-card-openai-gpt-oss-120b.html)
lists the `bedrock-runtime` model ID `openai.gpt-oss-120b-1:0`, the
`bedrock-mantle` model ID `openai.gpt-oss-120b`, text-only modalities,
and `128K` context window.
- [OpenAI `gpt-oss-120b` model
docs](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/models/gpt-oss-120b)
document configurable reasoning effort with `low`, `medium`, and `high`,
plus text input/output modality.

The display names, default reasoning effort, and priority ordering are
Codex-local catalog choices.

## Test Plan
- Manually verified app-server model listing with an AWS profile:

```shell
CODEX_HOME="$(mktemp -d)" cargo run -p codex-app-server-test-client -- \
  --codex-bin ./target/debug/codex \
  -c 'model_provider="amazon-bedrock"' \
  -c 'model_providers.amazon-bedrock.aws.profile="codex-bedrock"' \
  -c 'model_providers.amazon-bedrock.aws.region="us-west-2"' \
  model-list
```

The response returned the Bedrock catalog with `openai.gpt-oss-120b-1:0`
as the default model and `openai.gpt-oss-20b-1:0` as the second listed
model, both text-only and supporting low/medium/high reasoning effort.

Celia Chen 432771c5fd feat: expose AWS account state from account/read (#19048)
## Why

AWS/Bedrock mode currently reports `account: null` with
`requiresOpenaiAuth: false` from `account/read`. That suppresses the
OpenAI-auth requirement, but it does not let app clients distinguish AWS
auth from any other non-OpenAI custom provider. For the prototype AWS
provider UX, clients need a simple provider-derived signal so they can
suppress ChatGPT/API-key login and token-refresh paths without
hardcoding Bedrock checks.

## What changed

- Adds an `aws` variant to the v2 `Account` protocol union.
- Adds `ProviderAccountKind` to `codex-model-provider` so the runtime
provider owns the app-visible account classification.
- Makes Amazon Bedrock return `ProviderAccountKind::Aws` from the
model-provider layer.
- Updates app-server `account/read` to map `ProviderAccountKind` to the
existing `GetAccountResponse` wire shape.
- Preserves the existing `account: null, requiresOpenaiAuth: false`
behavior for other non-OpenAI providers.
- Regenerates the app-server protocol schema fixtures.
- Adds coverage for provider account classification and for the Amazon
Bedrock `account/read` response.

## Testing

- `cargo test -p codex-model-provider`
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server-protocol`
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server get_account_with_aws_provider`

efrazer-oai 5882f3f95e refactor: route Codex auth through AuthProvider (#18811)
## Summary

This PR moves Codex backend request authentication from direct
bearer-token handling to `AuthProvider`.

The new `codex-auth-provider` crate defines the shared request-auth
trait. `CodexAuth::provider()` returns a provider that can apply all
headers needed for the selected auth mode.

This lets ChatGPT token auth and AgentIdentity auth share the same
callsite path:
- ChatGPT token auth applies bearer auth plus account/FedRAMP headers
where needed.
- AgentIdentity auth applies AgentAssertion plus account/FedRAMP headers
where needed.

Reference old stack: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17387/changes

## Callsite Migration

| Area | Change |
| --- | --- |
| backend-client | accepts an `AuthProvider` instead of a raw
token/header |
| chatgpt client/connectors | applies auth through
`CodexAuth::provider()` |
| cloud tasks | keeps Codex-backend gating, applies auth through
provider |
| cloud requirements | uses Codex-backend auth checks and provider
headers |
| app-server remote control | applies provider headers for backend calls
|
| MCP Apps/connectors | gates on `uses_codex_backend()` and keys caches
from generic account getters |
| model refresh | treats AgentIdentity as Codex-backend auth |
| OpenAI file upload path | rejects non-Codex-backend auth before
applying headers |
| core client setup | keeps model-provider auth flow and allows
AgentIdentity through provider-backed OpenAI auth |

Celia Chen 1cd3ad1f49 feat: add AWS SigV4 auth for OpenAI-compatible model providers (#17820)
## Summary

Add first-class Amazon Bedrock Mantle provider support so Codex can keep
using its existing Responses API transport with OpenAI-compatible
AWS-hosted endpoints such as AOA/Mantle.

This is needed for the AWS launch path, where provider traffic should
authenticate with AWS credentials instead of OpenAI bearer credentials.
Requests are authenticated immediately before transport send, so SigV4
signs the final method, URL, headers, and body bytes that `reqwest` will
send.

## What Changed

- Added a new `codex-aws-auth` crate for loading AWS SDK config,
resolving credentials, and signing finalized HTTP requests with AWS
SigV4.
- Added a built-in `amazon-bedrock` provider that targets Bedrock Mantle
Responses endpoints, defaults to `us-east-1`, supports region/profile
overrides, disables WebSockets, and does not require OpenAI auth.
- Added Amazon Bedrock auth resolution in `codex-model-provider`: prefer
`AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK` when set, otherwise use AWS SDK credentials
and SigV4 signing.
- Added `AuthProvider::apply_auth` and `Request::prepare_body_for_send`
so request-signing providers can sign the exact outbound request after
JSON serialization/compression.
- Determine the region by taking the `aws.region` config first (required
for bearer token codepath), and fallback to SDK default region.

## Testing
Amazon Bedrock Mantle Responses paths:

- Built the local Codex binary with `cargo build`.
- Verified the custom proxy-backed `aws` provider using `env_key =
"AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK"` streamed raw `responses` output with
`response.output_text.delta`, `response.completed`, and `mantle-env-ok`.
- Verified a full `codex exec --profile aws` turn returned
`mantle-env-ok`.
- Confirmed the custom provider used the bearer env var, not AWS profile
auth: bogus `AWS_PROFILE` still passed, empty env var failed locally,
and malformed env var reached Mantle and failed with `401
invalid_api_key`.
- Verified built-in `amazon-bedrock` with `AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK` set
passed despite bogus AWS profiles, returning `amazon-bedrock-env-ok`.
- Verified built-in `amazon-bedrock` SDK/SigV4 auth passed with
`AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK` unset and temporary AWS session env
credentials, returning `amazon-bedrock-sdk-env-ok`.

efrazer-oai be75785504 fix: fully revert agent identity runtime wiring (#18757)
## Summary

This PR fully reverts the previously merged Agent Identity runtime
integration from the old stack:
https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17387/changes

It removes the Codex-side task lifecycle wiring, rollout/session
persistence, feature flag plumbing, lazy `auth.json` mutation,
background task auth paths, and request callsite changes introduced by
that stack.

This leaves the repo in a clean pre-AgentIdentity integration state so
the follow-up PRs can reintroduce the pieces in smaller reviewable
layers.

2. https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18871: move Agent Identity
business logic into a crate
3. https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18785: add explicit
AgentIdentity auth mode and startup task allocation
4. https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18811: migrate auth callsites

Adrian b44d2851cf [codex] Use AgentAssertion downstream behind use_agent_identity (#17980)
## Summary

This is the AgentAssertion downstream slice for feature-gated agent
identity support, replacing the oversized AgentAssertion slice from PR
#17807.

It isolates task-scoped downstream AgentAssertion wiring on top of the
merged PR3.1 work without re-carrying the earlier agent registration,
task registration, or task-state history.

This PR includes the task-scoped bug-fix call sites from the review:
generic file upload auth, MCP OpenAI file upload auth, and ARC monitor
auth. Broader user/control-plane calls move to PR4.1 and PR4.2.

## Stack

- PR1: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17385 - add
`features.use_agent_identity`
- PR2: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17386 - register agent
identities when enabled
- PR3: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17387 - register agent tasks
when enabled
- PR3.1: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17978 - persist and
prewarm registered tasks per thread
- PR4: this PR - use task-scoped `AgentAssertion` downstream when
enabled
- PR4.1: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18094 - introduce
AuthManager-owned background/control-plane `AgentAssertion` auth
- PR4.2: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18260 - use background
task auth for additional backend/control-plane calls

## What Changed

- add AgentAssertion envelope generation in `codex-core`
- route downstream HTTP and websocket auth through AgentAssertion when
an agent task is present
- extend the model-provider auth provider so non-bearer authorization
schemes can be passed through cleanly
- make generic file uploads attach the full authorization header value
- make MCP OpenAI file uploads use the cached thread agent task
assertion when present
- make ARC monitor calls use the cached thread agent task assertion when
present

## Why

The original PR had drifted ancestry and showed a much larger diff than
the semantic change actually required. Restacking it onto PR3.1 keeps
the reviewable surface down to the downstream assertion slice.

Celia Chenandpakrym-oai a803790a10 feat: add opt-in provider runtime abstraction (#17713)
## Summary

- Add `codex-model-provider` as the runtime home for model-provider
behavior that does not belong in `codex-core`, `codex-login`, or
`codex-api`.
- The new crate wraps configured `ModelProviderInfo` in a
`ModelProvider` trait object that can resolve the API provider config,
provider-scoped auth manager, and request auth provider for each call.
- This centralizes provider auth behavior in one place today, and gives
us an extension point for future provider-specific auth, model listing,
request setup, and related runtime behavior.

## Tests
Ran tests manually to make sure that provider auth under different
configs still work as expected.
