## Why
Posting to a new channel subscribed its author to replies on that post, but not to new discussion roots in the channel. The creator could therefore miss notifications for subsequent discussions.
## What changed
Subscribe the author to the channel in the same transaction that creates the channel and its first post. Document this behavior in the API and the `new_channel_name` tool parameter.
## Testing
Update coverage to verify that channel creators receive notifications without explicit targeting and that posting to an existing channel preserves an explicit unsubscribe. Adjust thread-deletion test expectations for the additional persisted subscription.

## Why
A corrupt agent message-board database can block thread deletion even when the feature is disabled.
## What changed
When corruption prevents opening the database for board deletion, back it up and recreate it before recording deletion tombstones. Recovery resets all boards, retaining their previous storage in the backup. Other database open failures continue to return an error without deleting the thread or replacing storage.
## Testing
Add an app-server regression test with the feature disabled that verifies ordinary open failures preserve storage and the thread, while corruption recovery preserves the backup, deletes the requested thread, retains another thread, and records the board tombstone in the recreated database.

## Why
Permanent thread deletion needs to remove persisted agent message board data even when the message board feature has been disabled.
## What changed
- Add a cleanup hook for single and batch thread deletion, invoked after reference and writer checks but before rollout removal so cleanup failures remain retryable.
- Remove the deleted roots' channels, posts, and subscriptions regardless of the current feature setting.
- Record board tombstones and check them within write transactions to prevent delayed writes from recreating deleted data.
## Testing
Add an app-server regression test that creates a board, archives its root thread, restarts with the feature disabled, and verifies that permanent deletion removes the persisted channels, posts, and subscriptions.

## Why
Attachment mutations must coordinate with thread deletion so queued requests cannot use metadata belonging to a deleted thread.
## What changed
- Add typed `ThreadStore` operations for idempotent attachment creation, paginated listing, and removal, with capability detection and unsupported defaults.
- Implement attachment operations for SQLite-backed `LocalThreadStore`, including unloaded threads, and preserve invalid-request and missing-thread errors.
- Coordinate attachment mutations with lifecycle locks and move SQLite cleanup into thread-store deletion. Remove state rows only after rollout deletion, preserving retries after cleanup failures.
- Give the in-memory store ownership of its associated SQLite cleanup and remove duplicate cleanup from the app-server.
## Testing
Add coverage for attachment pagination and idempotency, unsupported stores, error categories, lifecycle exclusion, mutations queued behind single and batch deletion, cleanup failure retries, and in-memory state cleanup. Extend the app-server descendant deletion test to verify SQLite rows are removed.

## Why
Paginated threads allow only one app-server process to write at a time. Archive and delete operations must not mutate a thread or its spawned descendants while another process owns any of them.
## What changed
- Acquire paginated writer locks for the full archive or deletion set before changing rollout files, including descendants whose rollout has not materialized yet.
- Add a batch archive store operation so ownership conflicts are detected before any thread in the subtree is archived.
- Return ownership conflicts as JSON-RPC invalid-request errors and document the behavior.
## Testing
- Cover archive and deletion conflicts for owned threads and descendants, including unmaterialized rollouts.
- Verify deletion still removes rollouts with unreadable metadata.

## Why
Codex and SQLite data can use separate home directories, but state consumers
could reconstruct database paths from the Codex home instead of consistently
using the resolved SQLite configuration.
## What changed
- Pass `SqliteConfig` through the core, rollout, state runtime, and thread store
instead of passing a directory and rebuilding the configuration downstream.
- Use that shared configuration for state, logs, memories, goals, and paginated
thread-history database access, including integrity checks and cleanup.
- Reject state database handles whose SQLite configuration does not match the
requesting store.
## Testing
Add coverage with separate Codex and SQLite homes that verifies startup
backfill, thread listing, and paginated history all use the configured SQLite
directory.

## What changed
- Add typed helpers for initialized app-server instances, JSON-RPC requests,
responses, notifications, and thread startup.
- Add a composable `MockResponsesConfig` builder while preserving the existing
mock config writers.
- Migrate the app-server integration suite to the shared helpers, removing
repeated request ID management, deserialization, initialization, and config
assembly.
## Testing
- Add unit coverage for composing mock provider, feature, and extra config, and
for compatibility of the existing mock config writer.

## Why
Paginated forks can retain a `history_base` pointer to another rollout. Deleting or compressing either side of that relationship can leave the fork without the rollout history it references.
## What changed
- Add a rollout reference index that scans active, archived, and compressed rollout metadata.
- Reject deletion when a rollout is still referenced by a fork outside the requested deletion set.
- Delete spawned thread subtrees as one store operation so internal references do not block deleting the complete subtree, while external references preflight the request before any files are removed.
- Skip referenced rollouts, fork-pointer rollouts, and rollouts with unreadable metadata during background compression.
## Testing
- Cover reference indexing across active, archived, compressed, duplicate, and self-referencing rollouts.
- Verify deletion rejects external references without partially deleting a subtree and permits batch deletion of internally referenced threads.
- Verify compression preserves fork pointer chains and continues past unreadable metadata.

## Why
Topology-neutral app-server integration tests should exercise automatic
environment selection so the same setup covers local and remote
executors.
## What
Migrate eligible tests to `TestAppServer::new_with_auto_env()` and
`send_thread_start_request_with_auto_env()`. Leave explicit-topology
tests unchanged, and skip the request-permissions case on Windows with a
TODO for cross-platform tool routing.
## Validation
- `just test -p codex-app-server`
- `bazel test //codex-rs/app-server:app-server-all-wine-exec-test
--test_output=errors`
Stacked on #29788.
## Why
Clients can archive and unarchive threads today, but there is no
app-server API for permanently removing a thread. Deletion also needs to
cover the full session tree: deleting a main thread should remove
spawned subagent threads and the related local metadata instead of
leaving orphaned rollout files, goals, or subagent state behind.
## What
- Adds the v2 `thread/delete` request and `thread/deleted` notification,
with the response shape kept consistent with `thread/archive`.
- Implements local hard delete for active and archived rollout files.
- Deletes the requested thread's state DB row as the commit point, then
best-effort cleans associated state including spawned descendants,
goals, spawn edges, logs, dynamic tools, and agent job assignments.
- Updates app-server API docs and generated protocol schema/TypeScript
fixtures.
