6515a72db7 Preserve runtime workspace roots across thread resume (#43848)
## Why

Resuming a thread should retain its selected workspace folders, including additional roots and explicit empty selections. Resume overrides also need to survive a subsequent resume when no turn has run.

## What changed

- Persist `runtime_workspace_roots` in startup metadata and thread settings snapshots, separately from explicit environment selections and permission-profile roots.
- Restore roots from the latest snapshot owned by the resumed thread, falling back to owned startup metadata only when no snapshot exists. Honor explicit `runtimeWorkspaceRoots` overrides, retarget the old `cwd` root when `cwd` changes, deduplicate roots, and validate restored paths for the current host.
- Checkpoint effective settings on resume and restored settings after revert. Reload resume configuration if saved workspace roots change during loading.
- Normalize Windows rollout path spellings when matching thread search results, preserving selection of the correct rollout after revert, including compressed rollouts.

## Testing

Add regression coverage for workspace restoration, empty and explicit overrides, foreign paths, compaction and revert, resume checkpoints without recency changes, concurrent settings persistence, and rollout search path matching.

d0a8dcd157 Limit archive rollout reads to requested threads (#43494)
## Why

Archiving threads reads metadata from every active rollout, including unrelated compressed files.

## What changed

Add `RolloutReferenceIndex::scan_unarchived_threads` and use it when archiving. Filter canonical filenames by the requested thread IDs before reading contents, while retaining metadata-based ownership checks.

## Testing

Add tests covering reverted rollouts, requested descendants, compressed rollouts, exclusion of archived and unrelated files, and candidate ownership checks.

16ff14c266 Retain inherited Guardian instructions in standalone forks (#43478)
## Why

A standalone root forked from a worker needs its inherited user instructions for Guardian review, including after compaction. Parent input counters belong to a different thread, and omitted parent answers may have restricted an inherited authorization.

## What changed

- Adopt inherited user instructions into thread-owned retained context for standalone roots, recovering surviving checkpoint messages when needed.
- Keep inherited instructions before local evidence without sharing local acceptance counters, and preserve that distinction during reconciliation and rollback.
- Mark parent verified answers as incomplete and treat recovered checkpoint instructions as incomplete excerpts.

## Testing

Add coverage for standalone forks from copied history and truncated checkpoints, retention through compaction and resume, inherited/local ordering collisions, and rollback scope.

3921a30d6b Persist Daybreak preferences in thread metadata (#42854)
## Why

Clients need a per-thread Daybreak toggle that survives restarts and can be
restored on resume without changing the access program of an active or future
turn.

## What changed

- Add experimental `daybreakEnabled` support to `thread/metadata/update` and
  expose the saved value on thread responses.
- Store the preference in SQLite, including for threads without a first turn,
  and preserve it through reads, resumes, reconciliation, and restarts.
- Copy the preference when forking a thread while keeping subsequent updates
  independent.
- Keep `daybreakEnabled` separate from the per-turn `cyberAccessProgram` field;
  app-server does not derive one from the other.

## Testing

- Cover persistence across restarts, cold reads, reconciliation, and forks.
- Verify metadata updates do not alter the access program of active or later
  turns.

80d7ca34bc Retain user instructions in guardian thread context (#42762)
## Why

Guardian review needs the original user instructions alongside verified answers, even after compaction, resume, or rollback. A summarized or legacy checkpoint cannot establish a complete instruction history.

## What changed

- Capture text user messages in retained context when `guardian_thread_context` is enabled, preserving their message identity through compaction and replay.
- Keep retained instructions and verified answers in arrival order, with independent size and completeness tracking for each family.
- Roll back retained evidence at the exact user-message boundary, including steers that share a turn ID, and apply the same semantics during rollout migration.
- Treat checkpoints without retained user messages as incomplete while preserving their verified answers.

## Testing

- Cover capture, compaction, resume, rollback, child forks, legacy checkpoints, storage bounds, and rollout migration.

728cb12fe5 Expose thread originators through the app-server API (#42458)
## What changed

- Add the creation-time `originator` to app-server thread responses and `thread/started` notifications.
- Persist originators in thread metadata and preserve the first recorded value across list, read, resume, rollout, and SQLite paths.
- Add an `originators` allowlist to `thread/list` for hosted backends. The local app-server accepts omitted or empty values but rejects nonempty filters.

## Testing

- Cover originator persistence across server restarts and list, read, and resume requests.
- Verify local `thread/list` handling for nonempty, omitted, null, and empty originator filters.
- Heap-allocate large TUI dispatcher futures in affected tests to keep them within the Windows test-thread stack.

69cebb5d15 Route rollout reads through the canonical JSON decoder (#42378)
## Why

Directly deserializing the flattened `RolloutLine` envelope can reject nested
decimal values, preventing affected paginated sessions from resuming.

## What changed

- Add canonical string, byte, and reverse-scanner helpers that decode rollout
  records through `serde_json::Value` before decoding the flattened item.
- Route rollout readers across session discovery, history, migration, search,
  thread storage, and transcript previews through those helpers.
- Remove `Deserialize` from `RolloutLine` so new readers cannot bypass the
  canonical persistence decoder.

## Testing

Add coverage that resumes a paginated rollout after a token-count record with
a decimal rate-limit value and verifies that ordinal sequencing continues.

0d502a4230 Support durable reasoning configuration updates (#42328)
## Why

Reasoning configuration changes need to retain their position and trusted provenance when model history is persisted and replayed. Client-injected history must not be able to forge these controls.

## What changed

- Add a typed `configuration_update` response item carrying reasoning effort, including custom model-defined values.
- Persist harness-authored updates with provenance and preserve them across history reconstruction, thread resume, raw response notifications, and agent forks.
- Exclude untrusted configuration updates from model history, strip client-supplied provenance metadata, and reject configuration updates supplied as turn input.
- Export the new item through the JSON and TypeScript app-server schemas and classify it in telemetry and persistence metrics.

## Testing

- Cover serialization, provenance persistence, history filtering and rollback, resume reconstruction, and injection attempts before and after restart.

- Remove answers when their source turns are rolled back, and prevent

28097e98eb Preserve Guardian history across thread reconstruction (#42065)
## Why

Guardian review evidence must remain available after a compacted thread is resumed or forked, while rolled-back or parent-local evidence must not grant authorization in a different context.

## What changed

- Store the bounded, model-invisible Guardian transcript alongside compacted rollout history and restore it from the newest surviving checkpoint during replay.
- Trim Guardian history at rollback boundaries, clearing it when the boundary has already been evicted.
- Preserve the checkpoint for user-initiated forks, but remove it when spawning a subagent so parent review evidence is not inherited.
- Keep the new rollout field optional for compatibility with existing compacted records and legacy readers.

## Testing

- Cover Guardian history across compaction, restart, paginated and pathless stores, user forks, rollback, bounded replay, serialization, and subagent forks.

- Restore accumulated usage on resume and snapshot the latest record plus the compaction response ID in compaction checkpoints.
- Preserve root-turn lineage in persisted turn context, while ensuring forked child threads start with their own usage totals.

2f0a5d5516 Avoid scanning archived rollouts when archiving threads (#41908)
## Why

Archiving a thread only needs to locate rollout files that have not already
been moved, so reading the entire rollout archive on every request is
unnecessary.

## What changed

- Add `RolloutReferenceIndex::scan_unarchived` to scan only the active
  `sessions` directory.
- Use the active-only index when archiving threads while retaining full scans
  for operations that require archived-history reference counts.
- Cover discovery of compressed and uncompressed active rollouts and exclusion
  of archived and unrelated rollouts.

f88ff940c0 Load bounded context after empty wake turns (#41901)
## Why

Paginated threads can accumulate wake turns with no user-message boundary. The
reverse context scan could not use those turns as a bounded replay cutoff, even
when a compaction and its resume state provided everything needed to reconstruct
the latest model context.

## What changed

Treat a full world-state snapshot that survives the latest compaction as a
durable baseline when it is paired with a compatible turn context. This lets the
scan stop at empty wake turns while still scanning further back for patches,
snapshots before compaction, or missing and mismatched turn contexts.

## Testing

Add coverage for repeated empty wake turns and verify that bounded replay
matches full rollout reconstruction across successive compaction windows.

1cc81ca89a Support compression for shared rollout lineages (#41357)
## Why

Rollout compression skips files that participate in paginated fork lineages because lineage readers rely on byte offsets into the original JSONL. This prevents shared rollout history from being compressed.

## What changed

- Add a seekable rollout reader that preserves logical JSONL offsets for plain and zstd-compressed files without materializing compressed data beside the rollout.
- Use the reader for lineage validation, model-context replay, and SQLite history projection, including when compression races with a read.
- Add the opt-in `local_thread_store_shared_compression` feature. The default mode continues to leave shared lineages uncompressed for compatibility, while the new mode includes referenced sources and fork pointers.
- Record the uncompressed size in new zstd frames so common prefix-bound checks can avoid decoding the full file.

## Testing

Add coverage for seekable compressed reads, prefix validation across zstd frame shapes, compressed lineage replay and projection, concurrent forks, and compression-mode behavior.

0b94751cc4 Add telemetry for SQLite log persistence (#40726)
## Why

SQLite log persistence needs visibility into batch size, write latency,
failures, and entries dropped before they reach the writer. Exporter
diagnostics must not feed back into the SQLite log sink and keep metric
exports active indefinitely.

## What changed

- Record write count, duration, batch bytes, entry count, largest-entry size,
  and queue drops with bounded outcome tags.
- Add explicit byte histogram boundaries for log batch metrics.
- Filter OTLP transport noise and the benign unsolicited HTTP/2 PING warning
  from SQLite log persistence to prevent export cycles while retaining other
  HTTP/2 warnings.

## Testing

- Cover metric values, tags, queue-drop reasons, and histogram boundaries.
- Verify successful and failed OTLP HTTP and gRPC exports become idle instead
  of generating recurring SQLite log-write metrics.

1bc02aea50 Sanitize credentials from Git remote metadata (#40713)
## Why

Git remote URLs can embed usernames, passwords, or tokens. Codex carries these
URLs through turn metadata and persisted thread metadata, so credentials must be
removed before a remote enters those paths.

## What changed

- Add `SanitizedGitUrl`, which parses Git URL and SCP-style remotes, strips
  authentication data, and preserves the conventional `git` SSH user.
- Use sanitized remotes when collecting Git metadata, enriching model requests,
  discovering cloud environments, updating thread metadata, and reading legacy
  rollouts. Reject or omit malformed remotes instead of retaining their raw
  contents.
- Keep API, schema, and TypeScript representations as strings while enforcing
  sanitization in Rust.

## Testing

- Cover URL schemes, SCP and IPv6 forms, remote helpers, encoded paths,
  malformed values, and legacy deserialization.
- Verify credentials do not appear in model requests, API responses, SQLite, or
  rollout files.

## Why

Clients need a bounded view of realtime conversations that preserves the order of speech, agent work, and turn lifecycle events without loading the full thread history.

## What changed

- Persist realtime session boundaries, transcript segments, and promoted agent items in paginated thread rollouts.
- Add the experimental `thread/timeline/list` API to page ordinary items, realtime items, and turn boundaries in canonical rollout order. Include `activeRealtimeSessionAtPageStart` so each page can be rendered independently.
- Emit typed `thread/realtime/item/started`, `thread/realtime/item/transcript/delta`, and `thread/realtime/item/completed` notifications around durable realtime items.
- Keep the existing `thread/items/list` response and legacy thread history behavior unchanged.

## Testing

- Cover mixed timeline pagination, realtime-session state at page boundaries, rollout replay, subagent history prefixes, transcript streaming, steering, and promoted agent artifacts.

b705b6b076 Report completed sub-agent activity on parent turns (#40437)
## Why

A Multi-Agent V2 child can finish after the parent turn that spawned it, so its
successful completion needs to remain associated with that parent turn in
notifications and history.

## What changed

- Add `completed` to `SubAgentActivityKind` and emit the corresponding started
  and completed item events on the spawning parent turn when a child succeeds.
- Persist completed activity as a canonical turn item in both legacy and
  paginated history, and expose it through app-server history and schemas.
- Render completed activity as terminal in the TUI without counting it as a
  separate tool call or tool-runtime event.

## Testing

- Cover successful completion in legacy and paginated history, late updates to
  completed parent turns, TUI rendering, analytics, and rollout tracing.
- Verify that terminal child errors do not emit completed activity.

a397079287 Preserve MCP resource origins across compaction (#39192)
## Why

Compaction can remove the tool-call events that associate an MCP app widget with
the tool, account, and URI needed to authorize later resource reads.

## What changed

- Store a bounded MCP resource-origin checkpoint with each compacted rollout.
- Restore the checkpoint when resuming a session so existing widgets remain
  readable after compaction and restart.
- Discard saved origins when rollback rewrites history across the compaction
  boundary, and reject oversized or invalid checkpoints during restoration.

## Testing

- Extend the app-server MCP resource-origin test to compact a paginated thread,
  continue the conversation, and read the original widgets before and after a
  restart.
- Verify rollback clears provenance that no longer matches retained history.

  endpoints with ordered roots, metadata, manual positioning, pagination, and
  idempotent creation.

  and fork inheritance. Project deletion clears assignments without deleting
  threads.

## Why

Concurrent Guardian samples can finish out of order, allowing an older sample to
replace the thread's newer in-memory security risk score.

## What changed

2bd8727a0c Preserve floating-point values when decoding rollout lines (#38399)
## Why

Serde's generic buffering for flattened and internally tagged fields is incompatible with `serde_json`'s `arbitrary_precision` representation. As a result, persisted rollout items containing nested floating-point values can fail to decode.

## What changed

- Decode the rollout envelope at the JSON persistence boundary before deserializing the item payload.
- Use the shared decoder for both session resume and thread-history projection.
- Cover token-count floats, response-item metadata, field ordering, and ignored metadata in the decoder compatibility test.

## Why

`thread/revert` preserves a thread ID while creating a new immutable rollout. Rollout persistence and filesystem fallback therefore need to distinguish the logical thread from each physical history file.

## What changed

- Add a `RolloutId` alias and canonical filename parsing for both ordinary rollouts and reverted rollouts with a distinct rollout ID.
- Allow the recorder to create a replacement rollout without changing the thread ID, and add lookup by either the stable thread ID or an exact rollout ID.
- Index history references and compression safety checks by rollout ID so multiple rollouts for one thread remain distinct.
- Preserve the rollout path selected in SQLite when filesystem repair encounters another rollout for the same thread.

## Testing

Add coverage for filename round trips, replacement rollout metadata, thread and rollout lookup, reference indexing, compression, and database path preservation.

## Why

Legacy rollouts can contain historical rollbacks, compaction checkpoints, and
subagent copies of parent history. Migrating those records verbatim can change
the visible conversation or the model context used when a thread resumes, and
can retain large amounts of duplicated subagent history.

## What changed

- Plan and replay historical rollbacks by logical turn, preserving surviving
  lifecycle events and the correct compaction anchor for future resumes.
- Migrate subagent rollouts from a safe bounded replay when possible and record
  the history boundary so copied parent context is not projected as child turns.
- Include archived and compressed rollouts while keeping their storage form and
  location intact.
- Tolerate malformed, partial, oversized, and empty JSONL records during the
  migration scan.

## Testing

Add coverage for rollback and compaction combinations, subagent replay bounds,
archived and compressed rollouts, recovery, concurrent maintenance, and damaged
JSONL input.

`thread/fork` rejected threads using paginated history, so they could not use the same fork workflow as legacy threads.

- Create paginated forks by referencing a frozen source-history prefix while persisting only child-owned records in the new rollout.
- Support latest, `lastTurnId`, and `beforeTurnId` boundaries, including inherited lineage, model-context reconstruction, interruption markers, and approval-reviewer inheritance.
- Make paginated reads and occurrence search traverse referenced history while excluding source records added after the fork.
- Coordinate fork preparation with archive and delete operations, and materialize compressed rollouts before they become fork references.

## Testing

Added app-server and thread-store coverage for boundary selection, active turns, inherited reads and search, compressed lineage, and concurrent source lifecycle operations.
