alishobeiri-oai 86b1b359cf Enable staging login issuer overrides in packaged builds (#42811)
## Why

Packaged clients need to pair a staging OAuth client ID with the matching
issuer. The issuer override was previously limited to debug builds.

## What changed

- Apply `CODEX_APP_SERVER_LOGIN_ISSUER` in all builds when it contains a
  non-empty value.
- Keep `CODEX_APP_SERVER_DEV_OPEN_APP_URL` debug-only.

## Testing

Exercise the complete app-server OAuth flow with the issuer and client ID
overrides, including authorization, token exchange, and login completion.

alexsong-oai 4f6d43c267 Support managed AWS access keys for Amazon Bedrock (#40481)
## What changed

- Add the experimental `amazonBedrockAccessKeys` app-server login flow, persist its credentials in the configured auth store, and use them for SigV4-signed Bedrock requests.
- Report `bedrockAccessKeys` as a distinct auth mode and document access-key login alongside AWS profile and environment credential setup.
- Clear the selected Bedrock provider, AWS settings, and Bedrock-specific model on logout while leaving external AWS credentials and `.env` untouched.
- Reject managed access-key login when higher-precedence configuration would prevent its region or profile settings from taking effect.

## Testing

- Cover access-key login, storage, request signing, configuration conflicts, status reporting, and logout cleanup.

alexsong-oai e77c2a90af Implement Amazon Bedrock setup in the app server (#40007)
## What changed

- Implement `account/bedrock/discover` to report AWS profiles and available environment credentials.
- Implement `account/bedrock/setup` for validated AWS profiles and environment credentials, persisting the selected region and profile in the Bedrock provider configuration.
- Resolve Bedrock authentication according to the selected credential source, and clear stale profile configuration when using a Codex-managed Bedrock API key.

## Testing

- Cover profile and environment discovery, setup validation and persistence, conflicting credentials, and authentication-source precedence.

## What changed

- Recognize `edu_plus` and `edu_pro` as distinct education workspace plans across authentication, backend rate-limit mapping, and app-server account schemas.
- Include both plans in cloud configuration eligibility and use the education usage-limit behavior.
- Display the plans as `Edu Plus` and `Edu Pro` in the TUI status view.

## Testing

- Cover parsing, workspace classification, account and rate-limit responses, cloud configuration eligibility, usage-limit messages, and TUI display names for the new variants.

Celia Chen 17de14558b Remove app-server's direct reqwest dependency (#39293)
## Why

`codex-http-client` is the intended owner of `reqwest`, while direct first-party
dependencies are tracked as migration debt.

## What changed

- Build app-server test HTTP clients through `HttpClientBuilder`.
- Use `http` and `url` types directly where only protocol types are needed.
- Remove `reqwest` from `codex-app-server` and its temporary dependency-policy
  exception.

Abhinav 2994f545a7 Enforce managed authentication requirements locally (#37132)
## Why

Authentication restrictions must apply before stored or environment-provided credentials can be used, including during bootstrap before cloud requirements are fetched.

## What changed

- Add local `requirements.toml` allowlists for login methods and ChatGPT workspaces. Ignore these fields in cloud-provided requirements.
- Combine managed workspace allowlists with existing workspace restrictions by intersection, and fail closed when the resulting policy permits no usable login method.
- Centralize policy checks in the authentication manager so CLI, TUI, app-server, external-auth, and credential-loading paths consistently reject disallowed authentication before token hydration or network requests.

## Testing

- Cover policy composition, workspace intersection, invalid stored and external credentials, bootstrap enforcement, and login endpoint restrictions.

Daniel Wolf 5157493c23 Expose onboarding hints in login completion notifications (#36635)
## What changed

- Accept the allowlisted `.onboarding_entrypoint=life_sciences` suffix on a valid OAuth state while continuing to reject unknown or malformed suffixes.
- Return the parsed callback metadata from the login server without including the suffix in the token exchange redirect URI.
- Add the optional `onboardingEntrypoint` field and `life_sciences` value to the v2 `account/login/completed` notification and generated protocol exports.

## Testing

- Cover valid, invalid, and repeated OAuth state suffixes.
- Verify the end-to-end login callback result, token redirect URI, and app-server notification payload.

Celia Chen 315195492c Support custom transports for Amazon Bedrock (#33695)
## What changed

- Allow the built-in `amazon-bedrock` provider to override `base_url`, `auth`,
and `http_headers` in addition to its AWS profile and region.
- Use command-based bearer authentication and configured endpoints without
applying AWS request signing, while retaining regional endpoint resolution
  for the default Bedrock configuration.
- Replace the Bedrock account `credentialSource` enum with the
`usesCodexManagedCredentials` boolean so command-authenticated and other
externally managed configurations are reported consistently.

## Testing

- Cover configuration merging and validation, command-authenticated proxy
requests with custom headers, and account reporting for managed and external
  credentials.

Celia Chen 6e215e0db5 Handle Amazon Bedrock credentials during logout (#33175)
## Why

Amazon Bedrock can use either a Codex-managed API key or credentials managed by
AWS, so logout must not remove or misrepresent credentials that Codex does not
control.

## What changed

- Remove the managed Bedrock key on logout and clear `model_provider` only when
its user-config value is still `amazon-bedrock`.
- Reject logout for AWS-managed Bedrock credentials without changing existing
  authentication or configuration.
- Add a `test-logout` app-server test-client command that waits for the
  resulting `account/updated` notification.

## Testing

Add coverage for managed and AWS-managed Bedrock logout, concurrent provider
changes, config reload failures, and conditional user-config cleanup.

Celia Chen 518085387b Support Amazon Bedrock login in the app server (#33170)
## What changed

- Handle experimental `account/login/start` requests with `type: "amazonBedrock"`.
- Validate the API key and Mantle region, persist the managed credential, select the `amazon-bedrock` model provider, and emit the standard login and account-update notifications.
- Reload configuration for account and authentication status reads so the newly selected provider is visible immediately, with the startup configuration as a fallback.
- Extend the app-server test client with an Amazon Bedrock login mode that redacts API keys from request logs.

pakrym-oai e60af81b4f refactor: unify external auth resolution (#31421)
## Summary

External auth had two paths: provider-command credentials were resolved
through `ExternalAuth`, while app-provided ChatGPT credentials were
installed separately and only used the provider for refresh.
`ExternalAuth` also declared an auth mode independently from the
`CodexAuth` value it returned, so the declaration and credentials could
disagree.

This change makes the provider-owned `CodexAuth` authoritative for
initial resolution, credential kind, and refresh.

- remove `ExternalAuth::auth_mode` and require providers to return their
current auth from `resolve`
- route external auth registration, resolution, and unauthorized refresh
through `AuthManager::set_external_auth`
- keep the last resolved credential with its provider so synchronous
consumers and unauthorized recovery observe the credential's actual mode
- make the app-server bridge own both initial and refreshed ChatGPT
credentials, and detach it on logout
- keep model listing free of auth-refresh side effects, including in
offline mode

Provider-command auth still follows its configured cache interval.
App-provided ChatGPT auth still asks the parent app once after a `401`
and retries the request once.

Stacked on #31355.

rafael-jac 1fd0858e86 [login] support hosted success redirects (#28745)
## What

Adds an optional hosted login-success redirect path for app-server login
requests.

- Keeps the existing localhost success page as the default.
- Lets app-server callers opt into a hosted success page with an
optional protocol field.
- Persists credentials before redirecting to the hosted success page.
- Keeps org setup and existing CLI/device-code login flows on the local
success page.
- Accepts an optional typed `appBrand` value and forwards it to the
hosted page as `app_brand` so web can select the correct asset.
- Generates the app-server protocol schema updates for the new optional
fields.

## Why

This supports the hosted Codex login success page rollout without
changing existing login behavior by default. The Codex Apps frontend can
gate the opt-in with Statsig after the hosted web page.

## Rollout safety

- Old callers omit the new field and continue using localhost.
- New callers talking to old app-server builds remain safe because the
Codex Apps side treats the field as optional and defaults the flag off.
- Missing brand values default to Codex.
- The hosted redirect always uses the app-login source so the hosted
page can reopen Codex; the existing streamlined-login visual flag
remains separate.

## Validation

- `just fmt`

confirming the failures shared that environment issue.

efrazer-oai 5a67d898a5 Allow ChatGPT accounts without email (#28991)
# Summary

Codex required every ChatGPT account to have an email address. A
service-account personal access token can return valid account metadata
without one, so PAT login failed while decoding the metadata response.

This change makes email optional in the account metadata type that owns
it and preserves that absence through authentication, provider account
state, the app-server API, generated clients, and TUI bootstrap.
Existing accounts with email addresses keep the same behavior.

## Behavior-changing call sites

| Call site | Behavior after this change |
| --- | --- |
| `login/src/auth/personal_access_token.rs` | PAT metadata accepts a
missing or null email and retains `None`. |
| `agent-identity/src/lib.rs` | Agent Identity JWT claims accept an
omitted email. |
| `login/src/auth/storage.rs` and `login/src/auth/agent_identity.rs` |
Stored and managed Agent Identity records carry `Option<String>`.
Deserialization maps the legacy empty-string sentinel to `None`. |
| `login/src/auth/manager.rs` | `get_account_email` returns the stored
option, and managed identity bootstrap no longer converts `None` to an
empty string. |
| `model-provider/src/provider.rs` and `protocol/src/account.rs` | A
ChatGPT provider account requires a plan type but may carry no email. |
| `app-server-protocol/src/protocol/v2/account.rs` | `account/read`
keeps the `email` field on the wire and returns `null` when the account
has no email. Generated TypeScript and JSON schemas describe a required,
nullable field. |
| `sdk/python/src/openai_codex/generated/v2_all.py` | The generated
Python `ChatgptAccount` model accepts `None` for email. |
| `tui/src/app_server_session.rs` | Email-less ChatGPT accounts
bootstrap normally, keep external feedback routing, omit account-email
telemetry, and display the plan in account status. |

## Design decisions

- Missing email remains `None` at every layer. The code never uses an
empty string as a substitute.
- The app-server response includes `"email": null` instead of omitting
the field. Clients retain a stable response shape.
- Plan type remains required for provider account state. This change
relaxes only the email assumption.

## Testing

Tests: affected test targets compile, scoped Clippy and formatting pass,
a focused TUI snapshot covers plan-only account status, real
before/after PAT login smoke covers metadata without email, app-server
smoke covers `account/read` with `email: null`, and a regression smoke
covers an existing email-bearing PAT. Unit tests run in CI.

## Evidence

Visual smoke evidence will be attached here.

Celia Chen 12aaeb7bf8 [codex] expose Bedrock credential source in account/read (#27751)
## Why

`account/read` currently reports only `type: "amazonBedrock"`, so
clients cannot distinguish a Codex-managed Bedrock API key from
credentials supplied by AWS. The app UI needs that distinction to render
the appropriate account state without duplicating provider-auth logic.

Credential-source selection belongs to the Bedrock model provider
because it already owns the precedence between managed Bedrock auth and
the external AWS credential path. This builds on #27443 and #27689.

## What changed

- Added `AmazonBedrockCredentialSource` with `codexManaged` and
`awsManaged` values.
- Included the selected credential source in
`ProviderAccount::AmazonBedrock` and the app-server `Account` response.
- Made `AmazonBedrockModelProvider::account_state()` classify the source
from its managed-auth state.
- Regenerated the app-server JSON and TypeScript schemas.
- Updated app-server account documentation and downstream TUI matches.

`codexManaged` means the provider found a managed Bedrock API key.
`awsManaged` identifies the provider's external AWS credential path; it
does not assert that the AWS credential chain has been validated.

## Testing

- Added model-provider coverage for Codex-managed precedence and
AWS-managed fallback.
- Added app-server protocol serialization coverage for both wire values.
- Added app-server integration coverage for both `account/read`
responses.
- `just test -p codex-protocol -p codex-model-provider -p
codex-app-server-protocol` (497 tests passed).

After rebasing onto #27711, the `codex-app-server` test target compiled
past the image-generation `PathUri` migration. Local linking was then
interrupted by disk exhaustion (`No space left on device`).

Celia Chen 56c97e3b5c feat: use encrypted local secrets for CLI auth (#27539)
## Why

Windows Credential Manager limits generic credential blobs to 2,560
bytes. Large serialized ChatGPT auth payloads can exceed that limit, so
keyring-mode CLI auth needs a backend that keeps only the encryption key
in the OS keyring and stores the payload in Codex's encrypted
local-secrets file.

This is the third PR in the encrypted-auth stack:

1. #27504 — feature and config selection
2. #27535 — auth-specific local-secrets namespaces
3. This PR — CLI auth implementation and activation
4. MCP OAuth implementation and activation

## What Changed

- Added encrypted CLI-auth storage using the `CliAuth` secrets
namespace.
- Preserved direct keyring storage for platforms/configurations where it
remains selected.
- Selected the backend consistently for login, logout, refresh,
device-code login, auth loading, and login restrictions.
- Threaded resolved bootstrap/full config through CLI, exec, TUI,
app-server account handling, cloud config, and cloud tasks.
- Removed stale `auth.json` fallback data after successful encrypted
saves and removed encrypted, direct-keyring, and fallback data during
logout.
- Added storage and integration coverage for both direct and encrypted
keyring modes.

MCP OAuth persistence is intentionally left to the next PR.

rreichel3-oai 02a7205250 [codex] Support multiple forced ChatGPT workspaces (#18161)
## Summary

This change lets `forced_chatgpt_workspace_id` accept multiple workspace
IDs instead of a single value.

It keeps the existing config key name, adds backward-compatible parsing
for a single string in `config.toml`, and normalizes the setting into an
allowed workspace list across login enforcement, app-server config
surfaces, and local ChatGPT auth helpers.

## Why

Workspace-restricted deployments may need to allow more than one ChatGPT
workspace without dropping the guardrail entirely.

## Server-side impact

Codex's local server and app-server protocol needed changes because they
previously assumed a single workspace ID. The local login flow now
matches the auth backend interface by sending the allowed workspace list
as a single comma-separated `allowed_workspace_id` query parameter.

## Validation

This was tested with:

- A single workspace config
- With multi-workspace configs
- With multiple workspaces in the config
- The user only being a part of a subset of them

All were successful.

Automated coverage:

Gabriel Peal 5e6cbbadf7 Return None when auth refresh fails (#20092)
Right now, if Codex winds up in a state with auth but it can't refresh

Ultimately, we should prevent that from happening but if it does,
returning None will allow the caller to redirect the user back to the

Celia Chen 432771c5fd feat: expose AWS account state from account/read (#19048)
## Why

AWS/Bedrock mode currently reports `account: null` with
`requiresOpenaiAuth: false` from `account/read`. That suppresses the
OpenAI-auth requirement, but it does not let app clients distinguish AWS
auth from any other non-OpenAI custom provider. For the prototype AWS
provider UX, clients need a simple provider-derived signal so they can
suppress ChatGPT/API-key login and token-refresh paths without
hardcoding Bedrock checks.

## What changed

- Adds an `aws` variant to the v2 `Account` protocol union.
- Adds `ProviderAccountKind` to `codex-model-provider` so the runtime
provider owns the app-visible account classification.
- Makes Amazon Bedrock return `ProviderAccountKind::Aws` from the
model-provider layer.
- Updates app-server `account/read` to map `ProviderAccountKind` to the
existing `GetAccountResponse` wire shape.
- Preserves the existing `account: null, requiresOpenaiAuth: false`
behavior for other non-OpenAI providers.
- Regenerates the app-server protocol schema fixtures.
- Adds coverage for provider account classification and for the Amazon
Bedrock `account/read` response.

- `cargo test -p codex-app-server get_account_with_aws_provider`

It removes the Codex-side task lifecycle wiring, rollout/session
persistence, feature flag plumbing, lazy `auth.json` mutation,
background task auth paths, and request callsite changes introduced by
that stack.

This leaves the repo in a clean pre-AgentIdentity integration state so
the follow-up PRs can reintroduce the pieces in smaller reviewable
layers.

richardopenai 9f2a585153 Option to Notify Workspace Owner When Usage Limit is Reached (#16969)
## Summary
- Replace the manual `/notify-owner` flow with an inline confirmation
prompt when a usage-based workspace member hits a credits-depleted
limit.
- Fetch the current workspace role from the live ChatGPT
`accounts/check/v4-2023-04-27` endpoint so owner/member behavior matches
the desktop and web clients.
- Keep owner, member, and spend-cap messaging distinct so we only offer
the owner nudge when the workspace is actually out of credits.

## What Changed
- `backend-client`
- Added a typed fetch for the current account role from
`accounts/check`.
  - Mapped backend role values into a Rust workspace-role enum.
- `app-server` and protocol
  - Added `workspaceRole` to `account/read` and `account/updated`.
- Derived `isWorkspaceOwner` from the live role, with a fallback to the
cached token claim when the role fetch is unavailable.
- `tui`
  - Removed the explicit `/notify-owner` slash command.
- When a member is blocked because the workspace is out of credits, the
error now prompts:
- `Your workspace is out of credits. Request more from your workspace
owner? [y/N]`
  - Choosing `y` sends the existing owner-notification request.
- Choosing `n`, pressing `Esc`, or accepting the default selection
dismisses the prompt without sending anything.
- Selection popups now honor explicit item shortcuts, which is how the
`y` / `n` interaction is wired.

## Reviewer Notes
- The main behavior change is scoped to usage-based workspace members
whose workspace credits are depleted.
- Spend-cap reached should not show the owner-notification prompt.
- Owners and admins should continue to see `/usage` guidance instead of
the member prompt.
- The live role fetch is best-effort; if it fails, we fall back to the
existing token-derived ownership signal.

## Testing
- Manual verification
  - Workspace owner does not see the member prompt.
- Workspace member with depleted credits sees the confirmation prompt
and can send the nudge with `y`.
- Workspace member with spend cap reached does not see the
owner-notification prompt.

Michael Bolin aa2403e2eb core: remove cross-crate re-exports from lib.rs (#16512)
## Why

`codex-core` was re-exporting APIs owned by sibling `codex-*` crates,
which made downstream crates depend on `codex-core` as a proxy module
instead of the actual owner crate.

Removing those forwards makes crate boundaries explicit and lets leaf
crates drop unnecessary `codex-core` dependencies. In this PR, this
reduces the dependency on `codex-core` to `codex-login` in the following
files:

```
codex-rs/backend-client/Cargo.toml
codex-rs/mcp-server/tests/common/Cargo.toml
```

## What

- Remove `codex-rs/core/src/lib.rs` re-exports for symbols owned by
`codex-login`, `codex-mcp`, `codex-rollout`, `codex-analytics`,
`codex-protocol`, `codex-shell-command`, `codex-sandboxing`,
`codex-tools`, and `codex-utils-path`.
- Delete the `default_client` forwarding shim in `codex-rs/core`.
- Update in-crate and downstream callsites to import directly from the
owning `codex-*` crate.
- Add direct Cargo dependencies where callsites now target the owner
crate, and remove `codex-core` from `codex-rs/backend-client`.

Michael Bolin 61dfe0b86c chore: clean up argument-comment lint and roll out all-target CI on macOS (#16054)
## Why

`argument-comment-lint` was green in CI even though the repo still had
many uncommented literal arguments. The main gap was target coverage:
the repo wrapper did not force Cargo to inspect test-only call sites, so
examples like the `latest_session_lookup_params(true, ...)` tests in
`codex-rs/tui_app_server/src/lib.rs` never entered the blocking CI path.

This change cleans up the existing backlog, makes the default repo lint
path cover all Cargo targets, and starts rolling that stricter CI
enforcement out on the platform where it is currently validated.

## What changed

- mechanically fixed existing `argument-comment-lint` violations across
the `codex-rs` workspace, including tests, examples, and benches
- updated `tools/argument-comment-lint/run-prebuilt-linter.sh` and
`tools/argument-comment-lint/run.sh` so non-`--fix` runs default to
`--all-targets` unless the caller explicitly narrows the target set
- fixed both wrappers so forwarded cargo arguments after `--` are
preserved with a single separator
- documented the new default behavior in
`tools/argument-comment-lint/README.md`
- updated `rust-ci` so the macOS lint lane keeps the plain wrapper
invocation and therefore enforces `--all-targets`, while Linux and
Windows temporarily pass `-- --lib --bins`

That temporary CI split keeps the stricter all-targets check where it is
already cleaned up, while leaving room to finish the remaining Linux-
and Windows-specific target-gated cleanup before enabling
`--all-targets` on those runners. The Linux and Windows failures on the
intermediate revision were caused by the wrapper forwarding bug, not by
additional lint findings in those lanes.

## Validation

- `bash -n tools/argument-comment-lint/run.sh`
- `bash -n tools/argument-comment-lint/run-prebuilt-linter.sh`
- shell-level wrapper forwarding check for `-- --lib --bins`
- shell-level wrapper forwarding check for `-- --tests`
- `just argument-comment-lint`
- `cargo test` in `tools/argument-comment-lint`
- `cargo test -p codex-terminal-detection`

## Follow-up

- Clean up remaining Linux-only target-gated callsites, then switch the
Linux lint lane back to the plain wrapper invocation.
- Clean up remaining Windows-only target-gated callsites, then switch
the Windows lint lane back to the plain wrapper invocation.

daniel-oai 47a9e2e084 Add ChatGPT device-code login to app server (#15525)
## Problem

App-server clients could only initiate ChatGPT login through the browser
callback flow, even though the shared login crate already supports
device-code auth. That left VS Code, Codex App, and other app-server
clients without a first-class way to use the existing device-code
backend when browser redirects are brittle or when the client UX wants
to own the login ceremony.

## Mental model

This change adds a second ChatGPT login start path to app-server:
clients can now call `account/login/start` with `type:
"chatgptDeviceCode"`. App-server immediately returns a `loginId` plus
the device-code UX payload (`verificationUrl` and `userCode`), then
completes the login asynchronously in the background using the existing
`codex_login` polling flow. Successful device-code login still resolves
to ordinary `chatgpt` auth, and completion continues to flow through the
existing `account/login/completed` and `account/updated` notifications.

## Non-goals

This does not introduce a new auth mode, a new account shape, or a
device-code eligibility discovery API. It also does not add automatic
fallback to browser login in core; clients remain responsible for
choosing when to request device code and whether to retry with a
different UX if the backend/admin policy rejects it.

## Tradeoffs

We intentionally keep `login_chatgpt_common` as a local validation
helper instead of turning it into a capability probe. Device-code
eligibility is checked by actually calling `request_device_code`, which
means policy-disabled cases surface as an immediate request error rather
than an async completion event. We also keep the active-login state
machine minimal: browser and device-code logins share the same public
cancel contract, but device-code cancellation is implemented with a
local cancel token rather than a larger cross-crate refactor.

## Architecture

The protocol grows a new `chatgptDeviceCode` request/response variant in
app-server v2. On the server side, the new handler reuses the existing
ChatGPT login precondition checks, calls `request_device_code`, returns
the device-code payload, and then spawns a background task that waits on
either cancellation or `complete_device_code_login`. On success, it
reuses the existing auth reload and cloud-requirements refresh path
before emitting `account/login/completed` success and `account/updated`.
On failure or cancellation, it emits only `account/login/completed`
failure. The existing `account/login/cancel { loginId }` contract
remains unchanged and now works for both browser and device-code
attempts.

## Tests

Added protocol serialization coverage for the new request/response
variant, plus app-server tests for device-code success, failure, cancel,
and start-time rejection behavior. Existing browser ChatGPT login
coverage remains in place to show that the callback-based flow is
unchanged.

Ahmed Ibrahim 3f1280ce1c Reduce app-server test timeout pressure (#13884)
## What changed
- The auth/account/fuzzy-file-search test configs disable unrelated
`shell_snapshot` setup.
- The fuzzy-file-search fixture set was reduced so the stop-updates test
does less incidental work before reaching the assertion.

## Why this fixes the flake
- These failures were caused by cumulative timeout pressure, not by a
missing product-level delay.
- The old tests were paying for shell snapshot initialization and extra
fixture volume that were not part of the behavior being validated.
- Removing that incidental work keeps the same coverage but shortens the
critical path enough that the tests finish comfortably inside the
existing timeout budget, which is the right fix versus simply extending
the timeout.

## Scope
- Test-only change.

Thibault Sottiaux c9cef6ba9e [codex] include plan type in account updates (#13181)
This change fixes a Codex app account-state sync bug where clients could
know the user was signed in but still miss the ChatGPT subscription
tier, which could lead to incorrect upgrade messaging for paid users.

The root cause was that `account/updated` only carried `authMode` while
plan information was available separately via `account/read` and
rate-limit snapshots, so this update adds `planType` to
`account/updated`, populates it consistently across login and refresh
paths.

Eric Traut ff5cbfd7d4 Handle missing plan info for ChatGPT accounts (#13072)
Addresses https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/13007 and
https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/12170

There are situations where the ChatGPT auth backend might return a JWT
that contains no plan information. Most code paths already handle this
case well, but the internal implementation of the "account/read" app
server call was failing in this case (returning an error rather than
properly returning None for the plan).

This resulted in a situation where users needed to log in every time the
extension or app started even if they successfully logged in the last
time.

Summary
- allow ChatGPT-authenticated accounts to fall back to
`AccountPlanType::Unknown` when the token omits the plan claim
- add regression coverage in `app-server/tests/suite/v2/account.rs` to
confirm `account/read` returns `plan_type: Unknown` when the claim is
absent
- ensure the Rust auth helpers and fixtures treat missing plan claims as
Optional and default to `Unknown`

Owen Lin 53741013ab fix(app-server): for external auth, replace id_token with chatgpt_acc… (#11240)
…ount_id and chatgpt_plan_type

### Summary
Following up on external auth mode which was introduced here:
https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/10012

Turns out some clients have a differently shaped ID token and don't have
a chosen workspace (aka chatgpt_account_id) encoded in their ID token.
So, let's replace `id_token` param with `chatgpt_account_id` and
`chatgpt_plan_type` (optional) when initializing the external ChatGPT
auth mode (`account/login/start` with `chatgptAuthTokens`).

The client was able to test end-to-end with a Codex build from this
branch and verified it worked!

Owen Lin 81a17bb2c1 feat(app-server): support external auth mode (#10012)
This enables a new use case where `codex app-server` is embedded into a
parent application that will directly own the user's ChatGPT auth
lifecycle, which means it owns the user’s auth tokens and refreshes it
when necessary. The parent application would just want a way to pass in
the auth tokens for codex to use directly.

The idea is that we are introducing a new "auth mode" currently only
exposed via app server: **`chatgptAuthTokens`** which consist of the
`id_token` (stores account metadata) and `access_token` (the bearer
token used directly for backend API calls). These auth tokens are only
stored in-memory. This new mode is in addition to the existing `apiKey`
and `chatgpt` auth modes.

This PR reuses the shape of our existing app-server account APIs as much
as possible:
- Update `account/login/start` with a new `chatgptAuthTokens` variant,
which will allow the client to pass in the tokens and have codex
app-server use them directly. Upon success, the server emits
`account/login/completed` and `account/updated` notifications.
- A new server->client request called
`account/chatgptAuthTokens/refresh` which the server can use whenever
the access token previously passed in has expired and it needs a new one
from the parent application.

I leveraged the core 401 retry loop which typically triggers auth token
refreshes automatically, but made it pluggable:
- **chatgpt** mode refreshes internally, as usual.
- **chatgptAuthTokens** mode calls the client via
`account/chatgptAuthTokens/refresh`, the client responds with updated
tokens, codex updates its in-memory auth, then retries. This RPC has a
10s timeout and handles JSON-RPC errors from the client.

Also some additional things:
- chatgpt logins are blocked while external auth is active (have to log
out first. typically clients will pick one OR the other, not support
both)
- `account/logout` clears external auth in memory
- Ensures that if `forced_chatgpt_workspace_id` is set via the user's
config, we respect it in both:
- `account/login/start` with `chatgptAuthTokens` (returns a JSON-RPC
error back to the client)
- `account/chatgptAuthTokens/refresh` (fails the turn, and on next
request app-server will send another `account/chatgptAuthTokens/refresh`
request to the client).
