Dmitriy Kovalenko 9b0a676d5d Bundle rollout attachments into a gzip tar archive (#50446)
## What changed

- Combine file-backed rollouts and buffered rollout prefixes into `rollouts.tar.gz`, keeping diagnostics as separate attachments.
- Bound the archive and its upload envelope by the existing size limit, skip invalid or duplicate archive filenames, and fall back to individual rollout attachments if archiving fails.
- Add `rollout_archive_filename` to the report thread index so rollout filenames identify archive entries or fallback attachments.

## Testing

Add an upload test that extracts the archive and verifies the filenames and contents of both a compressed file-backed rollout and a buffered rollout. Update the thread index test to check the archive filename.

Dmitriy Kovalenko a285066737 Preserve diagnostic logs when SQLite logging fails (#47886)
## Why

SQLite write failures can leave persisted logs incomplete, while log snapshots taken before collection miss errors raised during that collection.

## What changed

- Report SQLite flush failures directly to the in-memory log buffer without re-entering tracing, using an error category and batch size instead of raw error details.
- Track whether the log writer has lost a batch and make app-server diagnostic uploads use the memory buffer when SQLite logs are incomplete.
- Refresh log bytes after flushing and querying SQLite so the same submission includes collection failures, while preserving captured metadata and thread identity.

## Testing

Add regression tests for failure reporting without recursion, subsequent write recovery, metadata preservation, and healthy and failing SQLite collection. Add an upload integration test that captures attachments locally and checks failure diagnostics, memory-buffer fallback, and omission of raw SQLite error details.

Ahmed Ibrahim 09bb3d6942 Disable unused default dependency features (#47088)
## What changed

- Disable default features for `sentry`.
- Disable default features for `syntect`, explicitly enable `parsing`, `plist-load`, and `regex-onig`, and switch `two-face` to `syntect-onig` in `codex-rs/tui`.
- Remove the resulting unused dependencies from the Cargo and Bazel lockfiles, including Actix, Sentry integrations, `ureq`, and `yaml-rust`.

pakrym-oai f5b941c910 Add configuration and feature diagnostics to report metadata (#46501)
## What changed

- Record an explicit allowlist of scalar configuration values and individual boolean feature tags for each sampling request, replacing the combined enabled-feature list.
- Distinguish configured context-window overrides from the effective model limit, and emit `unset` for absent values so earlier overrides do not linger.
- Expand `tags_json` into report metadata and raise the tag limit from 64 to 512, while allowing existing values to update at capacity.

## Testing

Add tests for configured and effective context windows, clearing overrides, feature toggles, dynamic tag upload serialization, and updates at the tag limit.

jif 0df1daf526 Attach compressed rollouts to diagnostic reports as JSONL (#44175)
## Why

Diagnostic attachment reads assume the queued file path still exists and contains plain bytes. Compressed rollouts can therefore be omitted when only the logical `.jsonl` path is available, or attached as compressed data when a `.jsonl.zst` path is supplied.

## What changed

- Read rollout attachments through a bounded decoder that resolves plain or compressed representations without materializing a durable JSONL file.
- Use canonical `.jsonl` filenames for attachments and app-server report metadata, while preserving filename overrides.
- Apply size limits to decoded bytes and preserve JSONL prefix truncation.

## Testing

Add regression tests for compressed attachments, representation changes after queuing, plain-sibling preference, filename overrides, decoded size limits, truncation, nonregular files, and unrelated `.zst` attachments.

chess aaa7ed042e Harden diagnostic report uploads (#41569)
## What changed

- Send the core report event before its attachments, then upload each attachment in a separate gzip-compressed envelope linked to that event.
- Bound encoded and decoded payload sizes, truncate oversized attachment copies with format-aware handling for JSONL, and preserve attachment priority when applying size limits.
- Retry transient attachment failures within a shared upload-time budget while honoring Sentry rate-limit and retry headers without replaying the core event.
- Add APIs to prepare and send persisted report events and attachments using a stable report ID, explicit delivery outcomes, and caller-controlled retries.

## Testing

- Cover attachment retries, truncation, rate limits, rejected responses, transport failures, redirect handling, content types, diagnostic consent, and report tags.

Eric Traut 997a80020f Report diagnostic upload failures (#39287)
## Why

Submitting a diagnostic report could appear successful without confirming that Sentry accepted the upload, leaving callers unable to detect transport or HTTP failures.

## What changed

- Send report envelopes through the route-aware HTTP client and await the response.
- Reject redirects, propagate transport and non-success HTTP responses, and include the full error chain in upload JSON-RPC errors.
- Add structured logs for upload attempts, successes, and failures without including report contents.

## Testing

Added coverage for successful uploads, rejected responses, blocked redirects, transport failures, and app-server JSON-RPC error reporting.

dshakiba-OAI 62b7386b07 Limit payload traces in diagnostic logs (#37497)
## Why

High-volume request and streamed-response payloads can overwhelm the SQLite log database and diagnostic ring buffer used for reports.

## What changed

- Limit HTTP transport, SSE, and WebSocket diagnostics to `DEBUG` in persistent log sinks while leaving unrelated trace diagnostics available.
- Log known unhandled response events and delta events at `TRACE`, and surface unexpected event kinds at `DEBUG` without including their payloads.
- Report structured parse-error metadata instead of logging an unparseable SSE payload.

## Testing

- Cover filtering for transport, SSE, WebSocket, and unrelated trace records in both report and SQLite log sinks.
- Cover unknown and unsupported delta response events.

Brent Traut 1f17e7512f Fix MIME types for path-backed feedback attachments (#30796)
## Why

Path-backed feedback attachments were always labeled `text/plain`, even
when the attached file was a gzip archive. Sentry consumers could
therefore UTF-8-decode a valid Codex Desktop log bundle and corrupt the
transferred bytes before anyone inspected it. Desktop already creates a
valid archive and sends its path through `feedback/upload`; the bad
metadata was assigned later by app-server's feedback upload path.

Slack investigation:
https://openai.slack.com/archives/C09NZ54M4KY/p1782867266569699

## What changed

Path-backed feedback attachments now derive their MIME type from the
final uploaded filename. Gzip files use `application/gzip`, known text
formats remain text, and unrecognized files use the safe
`application/octet-stream` fallback. Attachment filenames and bytes are
unchanged.

## How it works

- **Classify at the upload boundary:** The feedback crate selects MIME
metadata after resolving the final filename, including filename
overrides.
- **Preserve text rollouts:** Codex `.jsonl` rollouts remain
`text/plain`, while other known formats use the repository's existing
`mime_guess` mapping.
- **Protect unknown binaries:** Unrecognized extensions fall back to
`application/octet-stream` instead of being treated as UTF-8 text.
- **Keep the wire stable:** `feedback/upload` still accepts the same
path list, so Desktop, generated protocol surfaces, and remote-host
minimums do not change.

## Verification

Added focused coverage for gzip MIME, unknown binary fallback, `.jsonl`
text handling, and exact filename/byte preservation. Ran the complete
`codex-feedback` test suite (9 tests), crate-scoped Clippy, Rust
formatting, Bazel lock refresh, and diff checks successfully.

Charlie MarshandCodex 54ef99a365 Disable empty Cargo test targets (#21584)
## Summary

`cargo test` has entails both running standard Rust tests and doctests.
It turns out that the doctest discovery is fairly slow, and it's a cost
you pay even for crates that don't include any doctests.

This PR disables doctests with `doctest = false` for crates that lack
any doctests.

For the collection of crates below, this speeds up test execution by
>4x.

E.g., before this PR:

```
Benchmark 1: cargo test     -p codex-utils-absolute-path     -p codex-utils-cache     -p codex-utils-cli     -p codex-utils-home-dir     -p codex-utils-output-truncation     -p codex-utils-path     -p codex-utils-string     -p codex-utils-template     -p codex-utils-elapsed     -p codex-utils-json-to-toml
  Time (mean ± σ):      1.849 s ±  4.455 s    [User: 0.752 s, System: 1.367 s]
  Range (min … max):    0.418 s … 14.529 s    10 runs
```

And after:

```
Benchmark 1: cargo test     -p codex-utils-absolute-path     -p codex-utils-cache     -p codex-utils-cli     -p codex-utils-home-dir     -p codex-utils-output-truncation     -p codex-utils-path     -p codex-utils-string     -p codex-utils-template     -p codex-utils-elapsed     -p codex-utils-json-to-toml
  Time (mean ± σ):     428.6 ms ±   6.9 ms    [User: 187.7 ms, System: 219.7 ms]
  Range (min … max):   418.0 ms … 436.8 ms    10 runs
```

For a single crate, with >2x speedup, before:

```
Benchmark 1: cargo test -p codex-utils-string
  Time (mean ± σ):     491.1 ms ±   9.0 ms    [User: 229.8 ms, System: 234.9 ms]
  Range (min … max):   480.9 ms … 512.0 ms    10 runs
```

And after:

```
Benchmark 1: cargo test -p codex-utils-string
  Time (mean ± σ):     213.9 ms ±   4.3 ms    [User: 112.8 ms, System: 84.0 ms]
  Range (min … max):   206.8 ms … 221.0 ms    13 runs
```

Ahmed IbrahimandCodex 6fff9955f1 extract models manager and related ownership from core (#16508)
## Summary
- split `models-manager` out of `core` and add `ModelsManagerConfig`
plus `Config::to_models_manager_config()` so model metadata paths stop
depending on `core::Config`
- move login-owned/auth-owned code out of `core` into `codex-login`,
move model provider config into `codex-model-provider-info`, move API
bridge mapping into `codex-api`, move protocol-owned types/impls into
`codex-protocol`, and move response debug helpers into a dedicated
`response-debug-context` crate
- move feedback tag emission into `codex-feedback`, relocate tests to
the crates that now own the code, and keep broad temporary re-exports so
this PR avoids a giant import-only rewrite

## Major moves and decisions
- created `codex-models-manager` as the owner for model
cache/catalog/config/model info logic, including the new
`ModelsManagerConfig` struct
- created `codex-model-provider-info` as the owner for provider config
parsing/defaults and kept temporary `codex-login`/`codex-core`
re-exports for old import paths
- moved `api_bridge` error mapping + `CoreAuthProvider` into
`codex-api`, while `codex-login::api_bridge` temporarily re-exports
those symbols and keeps the `auth_provider_from_auth` wrapper
- moved `auth_env_telemetry` and `provider_auth` ownership to
`codex-login`
- moved `CodexErr` ownership to `codex-protocol::error`, plus
`StreamOutput`, `bytes_to_string_smart`, and network policy helpers to
protocol-owned modules
- created `codex-response-debug-context` for
`extract_response_debug_context`, `telemetry_transport_error_message`,
and related response-debug plumbing instead of leaving that behavior in
`core`
- moved `FeedbackRequestTags`, `emit_feedback_request_tags`, and
`emit_feedback_request_tags_with_auth_env` to `codex-feedback`
- deferred removal of temporary re-exports and the mechanical import
rewrites to a stacked follow-up PR so this PR stays reviewable

## Test moves
- moved auth refresh coverage from `core/tests/suite/auth_refresh.rs` to
`login/tests/suite/auth_refresh.rs`
- moved text encoding coverage from
`core/tests/suite/text_encoding_fix.rs` to
`protocol/src/exec_output_tests.rs`
- moved model info override coverage from
`core/tests/suite/model_info_overrides.rs` to
`models-manager/src/model_info_overrides_tests.rs`

Michael Bolin 9a8730f31e ci: verify codex-rs Cargo manifests inherit workspace settings (#16353)
## Why

Bazel clippy now catches lints that `cargo clippy` can still miss when a
crate under `codex-rs` forgets to opt into workspace lints. The concrete
example here was `codex-rs/app-server/tests/common/Cargo.toml`: Bazel
flagged a clippy violation in `models_cache.rs`, but Cargo did not
because that crate inherited workspace package metadata without
declaring `[lints] workspace = true`.

We already mirror the workspace clippy deny list into Bazel after
[#15955](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/15955), so we also need a
repo-side check that keeps every `codex-rs` manifest opted into the same
workspace settings.

## What changed

- add `.github/scripts/verify_cargo_workspace_manifests.py`, which
parses every `codex-rs/**/Cargo.toml` with `tomllib` and verifies:
  - `version.workspace = true`
  - `edition.workspace = true`
  - `license.workspace = true`
  - `[lints] workspace = true`
- top-level crate names follow the `codex-*` / `codex-utils-*`
conventions, with explicit exceptions for `windows-sandbox-rs` and
`utils/path-utils`
- run that script in `.github/workflows/ci.yml`
- update the current outlier manifests so the check is enforceable
immediately
- fix the newly exposed clippy violations in the affected crates
(`app-server/tests/common`, `file-search`, `feedback`,
`shell-escalation`, and `debug-client`)
