## What changed
- Read the optional `pdf_c2pa_reservation` flag from file creation responses.
- When a reservation is present, include the original creation payload as
`pdf_c2pa_create_request` in the upload finalization request.
- Keep sending an empty finalization payload when the flag is absent for
compatibility with older server responses.
## Testing
- Cover reserved hosted PDF uploads and the legacy empty-payload path with mock
server tests.
GitOrigin-RevId: 454a4b9d872d70766c2bbb6c01d6015f7127af2f
## What changed
- Include the connector ID, action name, and model in file creation requests for hosted app tool calls.
- Use the file size returned by upload finalization when available, while falling back to the local size for older server responses.
- Keep upload finalization requests empty for compatibility with older servers.
## Testing
- Cover hosted app upload metadata and legacy finalization responses.
GitOrigin-RevId: 1bc834736db4fe3515f8224965cde0e5d6955ca3
## What changed
- Store a request-logging-disabled `RouteAwareClientPool` in session services and use it for file creation, blob upload, and finalization requests.
- Preserve the existing system-root fallback for transport-default proxy routes, and emit a warning event when that fallback is used.
- Remove the direct `reqwest` dependency from `codex-api` now that uploads use the shared HTTP abstraction.
## Testing
- Add coverage for completing multiple uploads through a shared client pool.
GitOrigin-RevId: 01842415cad2d349a6bd3869abb3332e8110ebce
## Why
Blob upload failures previously surfaced the full signed upload URL and offered limited information for diagnosing transport and service errors.
## What changed
- Add a unique `x-ms-client-request-id` to each blob upload.
- Report transport failures with the upload host, elapsed time, error category, and client request ID, while stripping the signed URL from the underlying error.
- Report unsuccessful responses with Azure request and error IDs, and emit structured warning events with upload metadata and available Azure and Cloudflare identifiers.
## Testing
- Verify successful uploads include the client request ID header.
- Verify response and transport errors expose diagnostic fields without leaking signed URL parameters or response bodies.
GitOrigin-RevId: 9ae2cb2a9aacec4df237b3ee79a6467a6b9107e7
## Why
Codex Apps file parameters use a three-step upload flow: create a file
record, PUT bytes to a returned signed URL, and finalize the upload.
Each step still constructed a default `reqwest` client, so the flow
could bypass `features.respect_system_proxy` even after model API
requests honored it.
This stack entry makes the resolved client policy a required input to
the upload API and resolves each concrete destination independently.
## What changed
- Require `HttpClientFactory` in `upload_openai_file`.
- Build clients for the create, signed upload, and finalize URLs through
the shared API route policy.
- Pass the factory derived from the turn configuration at the Apps/MCP
call site.
- Return a destination-aware `ClientBuild` error when enabled route
selection cannot construct a client.
- Preserve the legacy logged fallback for the feature-off
`ReqwestDefault` policy.
## Review guide
1. `codex-api/src/files.rs` changes the upload API and centralizes
route-aware client construction.
2. The three request stages each supply their actual URL, including the
separately hosted signed blob URL.
3. `core/src/mcp_openai_file.rs` is the only production caller and
supplies the turn configuration factory.
## Validation
- `cargo check --tests -p codex-api -p codex-core`
- `just test -p codex-api files` (1 matching upload test passed; 135
tests skipped by filter)
- `just fix -p codex-api -p codex-core`
## Follow-up
Other direct HTTP clients remain separate migration slices.

* #31637
* #31431
* __->__ #31363
## Why
#31323 introduces `codex-http-client` and leaves compatibility
re-exports in `codex-client`. Low-level HTTP consumers should depend on
the crate that now owns those APIs rather than continuing through the
transitional compatibility layer.
This stacked follow-up makes that ownership explicit and moves the
repository toward enforcing the abstraction without mixing call-site
churn into the extraction itself.
## What changed
- Switched `codex-backend-client`, `codex-cloud-tasks`,
`codex-exec-server`, `codex-login`, and `codex-model-provider` from
`codex-client` to `codex-http-client` where they only use low-level HTTP
APIs.
- Added the direct dependency to `codex-api` for its custom-CA request
and websocket paths while retaining `codex-client` for higher-level
retry and transport policy.
- Updated imports and normalized login's internal client type name from
`CodexHttpClient` to `HttpClient`, while preserving its existing
`CodexRequestBuilder` re-export.
- Updated `Cargo.lock` to reflect the new direct dependency edges.
## Review guide
This PR is intentionally mechanical: 20 files and 92 changed lines, with
no runtime logic changes. The largest diff is
`codex-rs/login/src/auth/default_client.rs`, where the only
semantic-looking changes are type and import renames. The remaining
source changes replace `codex_client` import paths with
`codex_http_client`; the manifest and lockfile changes mirror those
imports.
## Test plan
- Compile-checked `codex-api`, `codex-backend-client`,
`codex-cloud-tasks`, `codex-exec-server`, `codex-login`, and
`codex-model-provider` together.
## Why
Codex Apps tools can mark arguments with `openai/fileParams`, but the
execution path resolved and opened those files directly on the host.
That bypassed the selected turn environment and prevented annotated file
arguments from working with remote environments.
## What changed
- resolve annotated file arguments against the primary turn environment
- read file metadata and contents through that environment's sandboxed
`ExecutorFileSystem`
- reject files over the 512 MiB limit from metadata before reading or
transferring them
- retain the buffered upload-size check as defense in depth
- make the OpenAI upload API accept a filename and buffered contents
instead of owning local filesystem access
- describe the model-visible argument as a path in the primary
environment
This builds on #27927, which added `size` to internal filesystem
metadata.

## Summary
This PR fully reverts the previously merged Agent Identity runtime
integration from the old stack:
https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17387/changes
It removes the Codex-side task lifecycle wiring, rollout/session
persistence, feature flag plumbing, lazy `auth.json` mutation,
background task auth paths, and request callsite changes introduced by
that stack.
This leaves the repo in a clean pre-AgentIdentity integration state so
the follow-up PRs can reintroduce the pieces in smaller reviewable
layers.
## Stack
1. This PR: full revert
2. https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18871: move Agent Identity
business logic into a crate
3. https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18785: add explicit
AgentIdentity auth mode and startup task allocation
4. https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18811: migrate auth callsites
through AuthProvider
## Testing
Tests: targeted Rust checks, cargo-shear, Bazel lock check, and CI.
## Summary
This is the AgentAssertion downstream slice for feature-gated agent
identity support, replacing the oversized AgentAssertion slice from PR
#17807.
It isolates task-scoped downstream AgentAssertion wiring on top of the
merged PR3.1 work without re-carrying the earlier agent registration,
task registration, or task-state history.
This PR includes the task-scoped bug-fix call sites from the review:
generic file upload auth, MCP OpenAI file upload auth, and ARC monitor
auth. Broader user/control-plane calls move to PR4.1 and PR4.2.
## Stack
- PR1: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17385 - add
`features.use_agent_identity`
- PR2: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17386 - register agent
identities when enabled
- PR3: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17387 - register agent tasks
when enabled
- PR3.1: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/17978 - persist and
prewarm registered tasks per thread
- PR4: this PR - use task-scoped `AgentAssertion` downstream when
enabled
- PR4.1: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18094 - introduce
AuthManager-owned background/control-plane `AgentAssertion` auth
- PR4.2: https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/18260 - use background
task auth for additional backend/control-plane calls
## What Changed
- add AgentAssertion envelope generation in `codex-core`
- route downstream HTTP and websocket auth through AgentAssertion when
an agent task is present
- extend the model-provider auth provider so non-bearer authorization
schemes can be passed through cleanly
- make generic file uploads attach the full authorization header value
- make MCP OpenAI file uploads use the cached thread agent task
assertion when present
- make ARC monitor calls use the cached thread agent task assertion when
present
## Why
The original PR had drifted ancestry and showed a much larger diff than
the semantic change actually required. Restacking it onto PR3.1 keeps
the reviewable surface down to the downstream assertion slice.

## Summary
- Add `codex-model-provider` as the runtime home for model-provider
behavior that does not belong in `codex-core`, `codex-login`, or
`codex-api`.
- The new crate wraps configured `ModelProviderInfo` in a
`ModelProvider` trait object that can resolve the API provider config,
provider-scoped auth manager, and request auth provider for each call.
- This centralizes provider auth behavior in one place today, and gives
us an extension point for future provider-specific auth, model listing,
request setup, and related runtime behavior.
## Tests
Ran tests manually to make sure that provider auth under different
configs still work as expected.

## Summary
- Move auth header construction into the
`AuthProvider::add_auth_headers` contract.
- Inline `CoreAuthProvider` header mutation in its provider impl and
remove the shared header-map helper.
- Update HTTP, websocket, file upload, sideband websocket, and test auth
callsites to use the provider method.
- Add direct coverage for `CoreAuthProvider` auth header mutation.

## Summary
- bridge Codex Apps tools that declare `_meta["openai/fileParams"]`
through the OpenAI file upload flow
- mask those file params in model-visible tool schemas so the model
provides absolute local file paths instead of raw file payload objects
- rewrite those local file path arguments client-side into
`ProvidedFilePayload`-shaped objects before the normal MCP tool call
## Details
- applies to scalar and array file params declared in
`openai/fileParams`
- Codex uploads local files directly to the backend and uses the
uploaded file metadata to build the MCP tool arguments locally
- this PR is input-only
## Verification
- `just fmt`
- `cargo test -p codex-core mcp_tool_call -- --nocapture`
